Abstract

Payment system innovations as the efforts to meet the people’s needs have recently risen several new non-cash-based payment instruments, such as card-based payment transactions. The upheaval of card-based non-cash transactions has indirectly shifted the role of cash in the society. This research aims to see the effect of cards as payment instruments represented by both debit and credit cards on money velocity in Indonesia within the period of 2016M1 to 2020M6 using the VECM (Vector Error Correction Model) analysis method. The research findings show that long-run card-based payment instrument has a significant effect on money circulation in Indonesia. It means that money velocity in Indonesia is not constant. Money velocity is a key concept in monetary theories and an important element for monetary analysis. Therefore, it is important for central bank to monitor and understand the money velocity trends to provide long-term benefits. The research findings are also expected to provide an additional insight to policymakers, especially central bank as monetary authority doe to the possibly occurring risks caused by the money circulation instability in economy.

Abstract

In the digital economy era, efficiency and effectiveness are required in carrying out all life activities, including transaction activities. The urge to payment innovates systems as an effort to meet the needs of the community has led to several new non-cash-based payment instruments, such as paperless-based payment transactions. The existence of non-cash transactions shifts the role of cash in society. This study aims to examine the effect of paperless-based non-cash payments represented by credit cards, debit cards, and electronic money on the demand and velocity of money in Indonesia. Using monthly data sourced from Bank Indonesia and the Central Statistics Agency for the period 2010M1-2019M11. The right analysis used to see the effect of payment system innovation on-demand and velocity of money circulation is the Error Correction Model. The findings in the literature state that there is a significant effect of paperless-based payments as a form of payment system innovation on the demand and velocity of money circulation in Indonesia. The strong influence between the demand for money and the velocity of money with paperless-based non-cash transactions in Indonesia in the long term indicates that policymakers need to be careful in making decisions. The long-term relationship explains that the central bank can influence people's transaction behavior. Given that currency in circulation forms a significant part of a central bank's balance sheet, the shrinking demand for currency will have important implications on the central bank's seigniorage income, its independence, and its ability to conduct monetary policy. Thus, it is important to check and understand the trend of money demand and the velocity of money so that it can provide long-term profits.

AbstractThis study aims to determine the effect of inflation, the gross domestic product of agriculture, and agricultural credit interest rates on demand for agricultural credit of conventional commercial banks in Indonesia. The research method used is the Error Correction Model. The data in this study are data obtained from the website of the Central Statistics Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Financial Services Authority in Indonesian banking statistics. The scope of this research is monthly time series data from 2015 to 2019. Based on research that has been carried out in the long term, there is only one variable that has a significant effect, namely the gross domestic product of agriculture which has a positive relationship with the distribution of agricultural credit. While other variables have no significant effect. Likewise, in the short term, there is no significant variable on agricultural credit. Changes in demand for agricultural credit that occur are sensitive to changes in the gross domestic product of the agricultural sector as indicated by a probability value that is smaller than the real level value. This then becomes the basis for policy considerations as well as information for interested parties in this matter. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to be able to provide a reference in optimizing the demand for agricultural credit to banks. Keywords: Agricultural Credit, Inflation, Gross Domestic Product of Agriculture, Interest Rate of Agriculture

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the impact of financial development in industrialization in Indonesia for the period 1990 to 2019 using time series data. The data used are ratio of broad money to GDP, ratio of domestic credit to private sector to GDP, and interest rate spread. The results of the pairwise granger causality test in the VECM analysis phase prove that there is a one-way relationship beetwen domestic credit to private sector ratio with broad money ratio and broad money ratio with interest spread rate. Meanwhile, the interest spread rate and domestic credit to private sector ratio have a two-way relationship. Impulse response results show that the industry value added ratio responds most to interest spread rate shocks compared to other variables. Variance decomposition results show that the contribution given by interest spread rate to the industry value added ratio is relatively the largest compared to the contribution given by broad money ratio and domestic credit to private sector ratio.

Abstract

This study examines the determinant contribution of conventional bank lending for the agricultural sector in Indonesia. The analysis method used in this research is the Vector Correction Model (VECM). The results showed that in the short term, there was no significant effect of the Non-Performing Loan (LogNPL), GDP of Agricultural Sector (LogPDB), and Agricultural Sector Credit Interest Rates (SBK). However, there is an effect of the LogNPL and LogPDB on the conventional bank lending for the agricultural sector in the long term. The LogNPL has a significant positive effect on the contribution of conventional bank lending to the agricultural sector. While the LogPDB has a significant negative effect on the contribution of conventional bank lending for the agricultural sector. The Impulse Response Function (IRF) analysis results show that shocks to the LogNPL respond negatively in the long run, shocks to the LogPDB respond positively in the long run, and shocks to the SBK respond negatively in the long run by conventional bank lending for the agricultural sector. Through the analysis of FEVD (Forecast Error Variance Decomposition), it is known that the biggest contribution to conventional bank lending for the agricultural sector is agricultural credit and GDP.
