Abstract

Improving the quality of education in Cuba encourages the achievement of gender equality, especially in increasing the quota of women in the Cuban government. The revolution of the education system achieved through collaboration between the government and civil society is able to ignite the awareness of women of their rights in political participation. Comprehensive commitment and implementation in Cuba produces a high quality education index and makes Cuba one of the countries with the best education system in the world. The existence of an educational correlation and the achievement of gender -friendly politics is shown by the stable quota of women in the Cuban parliament. By looking at the system, quality and quantity of education as well as government and civil society programs in achieving gender equality and women's empowerment, this research found that there is a relationship between the equality of education as the focus of the construction of the Cuba by achieving the stability of the distribution of seats in parliament through the gender inequality index, especially the value Stable on the quota of women's quota in the Cuban government. This is inseparable from the joint effort between the government and the civil society represented by a feminist organization in Cuba namely Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).

Abstract

A significant number of migrants arrived in Europe in 2015, with Syrian refugees accounting for a disproportionate share of these new arrivals. Syria has a poor level of gender equality compared to other European countries such as Sweden and the UK. With an emphasis on the disparities in gender norms between their native country and host nation, this study aims to examine the phenomena of gender discourse and the integration challenges Syrian populations face. Strong patriarchal beliefs in Syrian communities make integration complicated and fuel many discussions about gender roles in these groups. This research uses a comparative method to analyze the gender equality discourse and integration experiences of Syrian refugees in the UK and Sweden. Through policy analysis and secondary data from journal articles, the research investigates how gender equality is perceived, communicated, and implemented within Syrian immigrant communities and the broader societal frameworks of both countries. The study reveals distinct national approaches to gender equality and integration, highlighting the impact of these differences on the lived experiences of Syrian men and women.

Abstract

This study compares waste governance in Banyumas, Indonesia, and Alappuzha, India, two cities in the Global South that faced similar public health and environmental crises caused by waste accumulation and had access to comparable waste management technologies. Both cities received international recognition for their community-based systems, yet their policy trajectories diverged. Banyumas experienced stagnation, while Alappuzha achieved sustained progress. Using a most similar systems design (MSSD) framework, this paper highlights two variables that shape reform outcomes, political continuity and the institutionalization of community participation. In Alappuzha, stable political leadership and the Kudumbashree women’s cooperative transformed protests into formalized community participation. In contrast, Banyumas remained dependent on individual leadership and fragmented community groups, with weak institutionalization leaving reforms fragile and vulnerable to political turnover. These findings suggest that although both cities began from similar conditions, political capacity and community participation ultimately determine whether waste governance results in progress or stagnation. Kedua kota sama-sama pernah mendapatkan penghargaan internasional terkait sistem pengelolaan sampah berbasis komunitas lokal. Namun, trayektori kebijakannya berbeda. Banyumas mengalami stagnansi, sedangkan Alappuzha mengalami progresi.
