Abstract

ABSTRACT The high composition of import raw material of fish diet in Indonesia causes feed price expensively and should be replaced using local materials such as green macro algae. It is, therefore, this study aimed to evaluate effect of diet containing the Caulerpa lentillifera, as feed ingredient in the diet of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus. This study consisted of two experiments which were C. lentillifera digestibility test for raw material feed for tilapia and growth performance test of tilapia. C. lentillifera digestibility test was done by using Cr2O3 as indicators and analysis of faecal tilapia. The second experiment is growth performance test using a completely randomised design with four diets were formulated at variuos rates of C. lentillifera meal of 0 (control), 10, 20, and 30%. A number of 240 tilapia fingerlings of 3.41±0.10 g in mean weight were randomly stocked in 12 aquaria and fed on diet test for growth performanced of rearing period. C. lentillifera digestiility test result showed a good value as a raw material feed tilapia, the digestibility of C. lentiliifera and protein digestibility amounted to 68.81% and 86.31%. Growth performance parameters showed the use of 10% and 20% is not significantly different from the control (P>0.05), to the final body weight, protein efficiency ratio, protein retention, specific growth rate, and feed efficiency. But, the diet test at 30% performed the lowest growth performance and feed utilization as well of tilapia fingerlings. This study, therefore, concludes that C. lentillifera meal could be used up to 20% in the tilapia diet.

Abstract

Feed in aquaculture production is the largest production factor. Dependence on imported feed raw materials is the cause of high feed prices in fish farmers. One approach that can be done as a solution is the utilization of local raw materials, namely I. zollingeriana leaf flour fermented with sheep rumen fluid. This study aims to evaluate the use of fermented I. zollingeriana leaf meal (TDI) in feed as a substitute for soybean meal on the growth performance of catfish (L. hoevenii) fry. This study was conducted from December 2016 to June 2017. The research was conducted at the Wet Laboratory and Nutrition Laboratory of the Center for Freshwater Aquaculture Research and Fisheries Extension (BRBATPP), Bogor. This study consisted of four treatments and three replicates, namely the use of fermented amount of I. zollingeriana leaf meal (TDI) in feed as much as 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% made in isoprotein. The test fish used were jelawat fish that weighed 0.93 ± 0.02 g with a stocking density of 25 fish per aquarium. The container used was a 60x40x40 cm3 aquarium filled with water and equipped with 24-hour aeration. The results showed that the use of fermented I. zollingeriana leaf meal in feed up to 30% was significantly different from the control (0%) in several parameters including protein efficiency ratio, protein retention, fat retention, final weight, specific growth rate and feed efficiency, but not significantly different in the amount of feed consumption, hepatosomatic index and survival rate. The use of fermented I. zollingeriana leaf meal up to 20% showed results that were not significantly different from the control. Up to 20% fermented I. zollingeriana leaf meal can be used in tilapia (L. hoevenii) feed

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of glutamine supplementation on the growth of and antioxidant activity in Torsoro fish (Tor soro). The test fish used were Torsoro fish juveniles with an average initial weight of 5.21 ± 0.04 g. The treatments consisted of different supplementation levels of free glutamine (0; 0.5; 1.0; 1.5; and 2%) and alanyl-glutamine (0.84; 1.67; 2.51; and 3.35%) in feed, where each treatment had five replicates. The feed treatments were given three times a day ad satiation. The experimental fish were reared for 60 days. The parameters observed included growth performance, nutrient utilization, biological indices, and antioxidant activity. The results showed that free glutamine-supplemented feed significantly affects (p<0.05) the growth performance, nutrient utilization, biological indices, and antioxidant activity of the tested fish. Further test results showed that alanyl glutamine supplementation in feed at 2.51% produced the best results on the final weight, specific growth rate, protein retention, protein efficiency ratio, feed conversion, somatic visceral ratio, intestine length ratio, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase activities of Torsoro fish. Based on the overall achievement of the observed parameters, this study determines that alanyl-glutamine supplementation in feed at 2.51% improves the growth performance, nutrient utilization, biological indices, and antioxidant activity of  Torsoro fish.
