Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional content of fermented tarum leaf meal and its nutrient digestibility on hoven’s carp juvenile. This study consisted of two steps namely fermentation and determination of nutrient digesti-bility of tarum leaf meal. Sheep’s rumen fluids used as fermentator of tarum leaf, fermentation was performed for 24 hours with several levels at 0, 200, 400 and 600 mL kg-1, then dried and analyzed for proximate. Digestibility trial was carried out for fermented and non-fermented tarum leaf meal. Digestibility trial was conducted by adding Cr2O3 as the indicator and faecal collection through siphoning. Hoven’s carp (2,31± 0,02 g) were cultured for 30 days using 60 cm x 50 cm x 40 cm aquarium with a density of 25 fishes aquarium-1. Fish were fed three times daily ad satiation. Feces were collected one hour after feeding, dried and analyzed. Fermentation test showed that the nutrient content of fer-mented tarum leaf meal using 600 mL kg-1 dose was better and significantly than other doses in crude fiber and nitrogen free extract were 9,32±0,53and 49,23±1,11. The decrease of crude fiber were 36%. Digestibility test showed that the raw material digestibility, protein digestibility, fat digestibility and energy digestibility in use tarum meal was better and significantly different than non-fermented tarum leaf meal. The results showed that fermented tarum leaf meal at 600 mL kg-1 increase quality of nutrients and digestibility of hoven’s carp seed.

Abstract

Cinnamon leaves contain active compounds such as polyphenols and flavonoids which have antioxidant properties and play a role in lipid metabolism processes. This active substance is known to reduce liver fat levels and has the potential to increase the immune response in catfish. This research aims to determine the effect of adding cinnamon leaf extract to feed on liver fat levels and the health of catfish. Cinnamon leaf extract was added to the feed at five different doses, namely 0 g/kg (control), 0.5 g/kg, 1 g/kg, 2 g/kg, and 4 g/kg feed. The results of the study showed that the addition of cinnamon leaf extract to the feed reduced the fat content in the liver of catfish as seen from the decrease in fat degeneration in the liver of catfish compared to the control. Total erythrocytes, hemoglobin levels and hematocrit levels of fish treated with the addition of cinnamon leaf extract to the feed were lower and significantly different (P<0.05) compared to controls, but total leukocytes were not significantly different between treatment and control.

Abstract

Feed in aquaculture production is the largest production factor. Dependence on imported feed raw materials is the cause of high feed prices in fish farmers. One approach that can be done as a solution is the utilization of local raw materials, namely I. zollingeriana leaf flour fermented with sheep rumen fluid. This study aims to evaluate the use of fermented I. zollingeriana leaf meal (TDI) in feed as a substitute for soybean meal on the growth performance of catfish (L. hoevenii) fry. This study was conducted from December 2016 to June 2017. The research was conducted at the Wet Laboratory and Nutrition Laboratory of the Center for Freshwater Aquaculture Research and Fisheries Extension (BRBATPP), Bogor. This study consisted of four treatments and three replicates, namely the use of fermented amount of I. zollingeriana leaf meal (TDI) in feed as much as 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% made in isoprotein. The test fish used were jelawat fish that weighed 0.93 ± 0.02 g with a stocking density of 25 fish per aquarium. The container used was a 60x40x40 cm3 aquarium filled with water and equipped with 24-hour aeration. The results showed that the use of fermented I. zollingeriana leaf meal in feed up to 30% was significantly different from the control (0%) in several parameters including protein efficiency ratio, protein retention, fat retention, final weight, specific growth rate and feed efficiency, but not significantly different in the amount of feed consumption, hepatosomatic index and survival rate. The use of fermented I. zollingeriana leaf meal up to 20% showed results that were not significantly different from the control. Up to 20% fermented I. zollingeriana leaf meal can be used in tilapia (L. hoevenii) feed

Abstract

The nursing phase of Jelawat Fish (Leptobarbus hoevenii Blkr) is a crucial stage in aquaculture, where preparing healthy and robust fry poses a significant challenge. The availability of fry for grow-out activities remains low, consequently limiting the production of Jelawat Fish. This study aims to determine the optimal stocking density under an intensive culture system by evaluating production performance and physiological conditions in a recirculating system for 40 days. The study was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and three replications for each treatment: A (5 individuals/L), B (10 individuals/L), C (15 individuals/L), and D (20 individuals/L). The results showed that high stocking densities significantly affected absolute weight gain (AWG), absolute length gain (ALG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), weight variation coefficient (WVC), and length variation coefficient (LVC). The weight gain increased from 0.50±0.09 g/individual to between 1.51±0.03 g/individual and 1.86±0.05 g/individual, while the initial length of 4.10±0.29 cm/individual increased to a final range of 5.36±0.05 to 5.72±0.06 cm/individual. The lowest FCR was observed at a stocking density of 10 individuals/L (1.33), whereas the highest FCR was found at 20 individuals/L (1.52). Water quality parameters remained within the optimal range for Jelawat Fish culture throughout the study. Therefore, a stocking density of 10 individuals/L is recommended as the best option to achieve optimal growth while maintaining stable physiological conditions in fish.
