Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of education expenditure and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita on the Human Development Index (HDI) of regencies/municipalities in East Java Province during the 2019–2023 period. The research applies a quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), including education expenditure, GRDP per capita, and HDI. Data analysis was carried out using panel regression with the Random Effect Model. The results indicate that education expenditure has no significant effect on HDI, while GRDP per capita has a positive and significant effect on HDI. Simultaneously, both variables significantly influence HDI with an R-squared value of 0.984111, which means the model can explain 98.4% of the variation in HDI, while the remaining 1.6% is explained by other factors outside the model. These findings highlight that improvements in HDI in East Java are more strongly driven by economic growth, although the effectiveness of education expenditure remains crucial to be optimized to provide a tangible impact on human development quality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of economic growth, the open unemployment rate, the labor force participation rate, and the average years of schooling on the Human Development Index in Gresik Regency from 2004 to 2023. Secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS. The results indicate that, partially, the average years of schooling and the labor force participation rate have a positive and significant effect on the Human Development Index. In contrast, economic growth and the open unemployment rate do not show a significant effect. However, simultaneously, all four independent variables significantly influence the Human Development Index. This indicates the importance of investing in education and increasing productive labor force participation in sustainable human development efforts. Based on this, it is recommended that the Gresik Regency government prioritize policies that support improving the quality of education, job training, and creating quality jobs. Furthermore, cross-sector collaboration is needed to ensure that economic growth directly impacts community welfare by reducing unemployment and increasing human resource capacity.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of the tourism sector on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of East Java Province. Given that tourism is a crucial sector in driving regional economic growth through its contributions to local revenue, employment, and investment, this research aims to analyze the impacts of tourist arrivals, hotel counts, and restaurant numbers on GRDP to support effective tourism development policies. Adopting a quantitative approach, the study utilizes secondary panel data consisting of 190 observations across several regencies and cities in East Java for the 2018–2022 period, sourced from the Department of Culture and Tourism and the Central Statistics Agency of East Java Province. Data analysis was conducted using EViews 10 software with the Fixed Effects Model (FEM) method to examine the relationships between the independent variables and the dependent variable (GRDP). The results demonstrate that simultaneously, tourist arrivals, hotel counts, and restaurant numbers significantly influence GRDP. Partially, each independent variable also has a significant effect on GRDP. These findings confirm the important role of tourism sector development in regional economic growth.
