Abstract

Arumanis mango rind (Mangifera indica L) usually becomes organic waste, but contains flavonoid secondary metabolites. Arumanis mango rind extract was chosen so that it can be used as an antioxidant compound, which is an antidote to free radicals. The aim of this research was to examine the antioxidant activity and toxicity tests of arumanis mango rind extract. The result is that the maximum absorption wave of DPPH is 518 nm, with an absorbance of 0.788. The results of comparative antioxidant activity for gallic acid obtained IC50 = 4.424 µg/mL, while the arumanis mango rind extract sample had an IC50 value = 18.294 µg/mL. For toxicity test results, the LC50 value = 169.043 µg/mL. Based on the research results obtained, it can be concluded that the antioxidant activity of arumanis mango rind extract is classified as very strong (<50 µg/mL) and the toxicity is classified as toxic (<1,000 µg/mL).

Abstract

Arumanis mango seeds (Mangifera indica L.) are organic waste, which in previous research contained many secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids and had very strong antioxidant activity. Arumanis mango seeds have the potential to heal wounds, including excision wounds. Excision wounds are characterized by the loss of a certain amount of tissue volume that can be filled with wound healing material. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of arumanis mango seed extract ointment on the healing of excision wounds, variations in concentration and histopathological features. The experimental animals were divided into 5 groups, namely the control group (ointment base), the arumanis mango seed extract group with concentrations of 2.5%, 5% and 7.5% and the comparison group (T® ointment). Applying is done 2 times a day for 14 days. The parameters observed were the percentage of wound healing, epithelialization time, and histopathology. Results from the average percentage of healing of excision wounds in the control group (82.4%), concentration 2.5% (85.5%), concentration 5% (90.5%), concentration 7.5% (92.1%) and comparison (95.3%). Results of epithelialization time in the control group (10 days), 2.5% concentration (9 days), 5% concentration group (7 days), 7.5% concentration group (7 days) comparison group (7 days). For histopathology, the scores for epithelialization, collagen fibers and fibroblasts were obtained respectively in the control group (2,1,2), 2.5% concentration (2,2,3), 5% concentration group (2,3,3), concentration group 7.5% (2,3,3) and comparison (3,2,2). The results of the one-way ANOVA test showed that administration of arumanis mango seed extract ointment significantly influenced the parameters of wound healing area and epithelialization time (p<0.05). The conclusion is that arumanis mango seed extract ointment is effective in healing excision wounds. The most effective group for healing excision wounds was the 7.5% concentration group, with good histopathological results.

Abstract

Arumanis mango rind is an organic waste that contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids. Many flavonoids are found in the rind of the arumanis mango, which acts as a very strong antioxidant and has the potential to heal wounds, including infected wounds. This study aims to determine the effect of arumanis mango (Mangifera indica L.) rind extract ointment on healing infected wounds caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria, determine the effective concentration for healing infected wounds, and the histopathological decripstions. This research was an experimental study using male white rats which were divided into 5 groups, namely group I (control), group II (Gentamicin), group III (5% concentration), group IV (10% concentration) and group V (15% concentration). The parameters observed were the percentage of healing of infected wounds, epithelialization time, and histopathology. Then the data were analyzed using the ANOVA test followed by Duncan's further test. The results of the study were based on the group order above, from the parameters the average percentage of infected wound healing on 3rd day was 29.73%; 48.84%; 45.95%; 42.81%; 42.33%, on 7th day it was 70.96%; 85.79%; 83.25%; 76.95%; 73.87%, and on the 14th day it was 89.89%; 93.32%; 93.87%; 92.67%; 91.48%. Epithecization time is 9; 6; 7; 8; 9 (day), for histopathology of fibroblast cells with a score of 1; 3; 3; 2; 2; for collagen fibers 1; 3; 3; 3; 3; for re-epithelialization 2; 3; 2; 2; 2; for inflammatory cells 0; 3; 2; 2; 2. The conclusion of the research is that arumanis mango peel extract ointment (Mangifera indica L.) has an influence on the healing process of wounds infected by Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria in male white mice, the most effective concentration and the best histopathological descriptions at a concentration of 5%.

Abstract

Hypertension has a fairly high prevalence in Indonesia. The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2015 showed that around 1.13 billion people in the world have hypertension. Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018 found that the prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia in respondents aged 18 years and above, was found to be 34.8%. The initial survey and based on the results of the Regional Performance Report of Tanah Datar Regency was obtained that 42% of the people of Pariangan District, suffering from hypertension disease, so hypertension education is needed to the people of Pariangan District, Tanah Datar Regency. Education related to the risk factors for hypertension and the management of antihypertensive drugs is a form of education in the form of counseling and the provision of leaflets. Counseling and the provision of leaflets about hypertension are carried out to increase public insight into the risk factors of hypertension and the management of the use of antihypertensive drugs, The purpose of this community service is to provide counseling and provide leaflets to the people of Pariangan District about hypertension disease, both to sufferers and those who do not. This method uses a pre and post test design, where before being given counseling and leaflets, especially for people with hypertension are asked as respondents, then fill out a questionnaire sheet as a pre test, then after being given counseling and leaflets, the community is asked to fill out the questionnaire again as a post test, then data analysis is carried out with a dependent t test. The results of the t dependent test with a p value < 0.05. In conclusion, counseling activities and the provision of leaflets about hypertension to hypertensive patients increase the level of knowledge of hypertension patients related to hypertension.

Abstract

In previous research, mango rind extract has been studied as an antioxidant, antihypertensive, and antidiabetic, because it contains flavonoids and 17% mangiferin compounds. In this research, the effect of arumanis mango rind extract gel (Mangifera indica L.) as an anti-inflammatory was tested in male white mice induced by carrageenan using the granuloma pouch method. This experimental study used experimental white male mice which were grouped into 5 groups: the control group, the group with 2% mango rinf extract, the group with 4% mango rind extract, the group with 8% mango rind extract, and the comparison group. The parameters that were analyzed were exudate volume, total leukocytes, and type of leukocytes on days 3, 5, 7. The results showed that mango arumanis (Mangifera indica L.) rind extract had anti-inflammatory effectiveness topically as indicated by a decrease in the average exudate volume, total leukocytes, and leukocyte cell types (segmented neutrophil cells and lymphocyte cells) in each concentration group of mango rind extract, based on two-way ANOVA test and Duncan's test showed significant differences with respect to concentration and time (p<0.05). It can be concluded that all gel concentrations of arumanis mango rind extract (Mangifera indica L.) 2%, 4%, and 8% have anti-inflammatory effects.
