Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ perceptions of sustainable tourism development in Indonesia, focusing on the economic, socio-cultural, and environmental dimensions. Using a quantitative survey method, data were collected from 128 students across several universities in Indonesia through online and offline questionnaires. Descriptive statistical analysis was employed to identify perception patterns and awareness levels toward sustainable tourism principles. The results indicate that students generally have a positive perception of sustainable tourism. The economic aspect gained the highest mean score (2.10), reflecting optimism toward tourism’s role in improving livelihoods and supporting regional economic growth. The socio-cultural dimension (mean 2.24) showed positive attitudes accompanied by awareness of social and cultural risks. The environmental dimension (mean 2.20) revealed that students appreciate tourism’s potential to foster environmental awareness while acknowledging possible ecological degradation. These findings suggest that Indonesian students possess a balanced and critical understanding of sustainability principles and highlight the importance of integrating sustainability education into tourism curricula to prepare responsible future professionals.

Abstract

Bandungrejo Village, located in Ngablak District, Magelang Regency, has various village potentials, including natural resources, horticultural agriculture, and distinctive local arts and culture. However, these potentials have not been optimally utilized due to limited integrated promotional media and the low use of digital technology in information dissemination. This condition has resulted in low tourist visitation and limited economic benefits from the tourism sector for the local community. This article is an output of a Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) aimed at documenting and describing the implementation of an online booklet development as a promotional medium for Bandungrejo Village’s potential. The activity employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, with data collected through field observations, interviews with village officials, tourism managers, and community leaders, as well as documentation studies of village profiles and supporting data. The implementation stages included identifying and analyzing village potential, coordinating and planning concepts with community partners, producing narrative and visual content, designing and digitalizing the booklet, and distributing it through digital media using links and QR codes. The results indicate that the online booklet effectively presents village potential in a systematic, informative, and easily accessible manner. The availability of this online booklet is expected to enhance the visibility of Bandungrejo Village, strengthen its image as a nature- and culture-based tourism destination, and serve as a sustainable promotional tool for village authorities and tourism management groups in supporting rural tourism development.

This study uses a qualitative descriptive design, data collection is carried out by means of observation, interviews, documentation and observational literature studies, in-depth interviews, and literature analysis. The results of the study show that attributes in rituals, such as traditional clothing, travel procedures, and offering processions, are seen as representations of harmony between humans, nature, and ancestors. Tourists interpret this ritual as an authentic cultural experience, which not only offers tourist attractions but also provides a new understanding of local wisdom. In conclusion, Seba Baduy can play a role as a model for the development of cultural tourism that not only provides economic benefits, but also maintains the preservation of customary values. The implication of this research is the importance of collaboration between local communities, governments, and tourism actors to create sustainable promotion and management strategies.

Abstract

Mangrove forests, with their unique ecological characteristics and biodiversity, hold significant potential for tourism development through activities such as tracking, flora and fauna observation, and educational tours. In Karimunjawa, a mangrove tracking attraction is located on Kemujan Island. The application of Sapta Pesona principles plays a crucial role in shaping visitor experiences, influencing tourist arrivals, and contributing to the welfare of local communities engaged in tourism. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Sapta Pesona in the Mangrove Tracking attraction. Employing a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected through observation and interviews, and subsequently analyzed using a Likert-scale scoring technique. Findings indicate that the average scores for each Sapta Pesona element are as follows: safety (2.7/less), orderliness (3.5/sufficient), cleanliness (2.6/less), coolness (3.7/sufficient), beauty (3.3/sufficient), friendliness (2.7/less), and memorability (1.0/very poor). The overall average score of 2.7 falls within the “less” category. These results highlight the need for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to strengthen Sapta Pesona implementation, ensure environmental sustainability, and foster community engagement in delivering quality tourism experiences in the Mangrove Tracking area in Karimunjawa Island
