<![CDATA[The elderly as a vulnerable group of people in the community has various physical, psychological and social adversities in their life. In this age, someone who is of old age should have a positive attribute that could help the person to achieve a life with quality. Dispositional optimism is an individual’s positive attribute that could give a positive impact to elderly people. This paper reviewed theories related to dispositional optimism by reviewing existing literature. Indicators and measurement of dispositional optimism also discussed in this paper. Dispositional optimism theory was reviewed from the perspective of the initial founder of the theory and then further looked at its development in global application. Indicators of dispositional optimism were discussed to further understand the process of measurement of the concept itself. The measurement of dispositional optimism was often referred to as the Life Orientation Test scale, which was developed into various kinds of similar tests in order to use the test in other settings. The discussion in this paper hopefully could provide knowledge regarding dispositional optimism in elderly people especially future research in an Indonesian setting.]]>

<![CDATA[Children are a group of individuals belong in an age group that is vulnerable to various kind of negative behaviours. Neglection, abuse, and also violence are some of the negatives that often happens to children. Children’s perception of violence influences their reaction to violence itself. This paper discusses the concept of perception and also its concepts and then relate it in children’s context. Development aspects and a variety of violence were discussed in this paper. Concepts of perception were reviewed in detail by considering development tasks and also development aspects of children. Violence was looked from the global perspective by considering the type of violence that often happens to children. Factors that cause violence were carefully reviewed to help in forming an effective intervention. A good intervention should consider deeply the complexity of the violence phenomenon in children. Activists and academia who are working in this field could consider more of children’s perception to violence conceptsin doing related works.]]>

<![CDATA[Older people are a group of people that are struggling in the last phase of their life. In this phase, a person faces various challenges to fulfill their needs to get a life with quality. High level of quality of life is something that is subjective, mostly different in each person. This paperis a literature review that will discuss factors related to quality of life by reviewing existing relevant literatures. Indicators and measurement tools will also be discussed in this paper. Quality of life factors that bceome the main reference in the global context are the one stated byWorld Health Organization. These factors would also influence scales that measure quality of life, which in turn were further developed to fit specific cultural context to fulfill the needs of each unique population. Indicators of quality of life were concluded as influenced by varioussituations in a person’s life including environment, culture and beliefs. The content hopefully will be able to provide knowledge concerning quality of life in relations with elderly. Understanding the concept of quality of life would help to advance the literature including in it well-being and other related concepts.]]>

<![CDATA[International Non Governmental Organization (INGO) works to support community in needs either in urban or rural setting. One of the main target group is the most vulnerable group in a community. This group were often left out and not involved in community empowerment projects implemented. This article aims to describe the condition of a vulnerable group located at Ongulero village, Sigi district, Central Sulawesi Province, and to recommend an intervention that could be applied by stakeholders in that village. Situation description were done in a narrative form, strengthen by observation and interview data that was analysed in psychological context. Result of the analysis shows that this vulnerable group was yet to be reached by community empowerment program that was being applied by an INGO there. Children are part of a vulnerable group that is when empowered and facilitated, could become a solution for community empowerment. A potential intervention is discussed further in this article to help improve child participation in Ongulero village.]]>

<![CDATA[Parents have responsibilities to nurture their children to be independent person, physically and biologically. Father’s role are parenting, demanding them to be involved in child rearing. This study was done for six months long in order to understand fathering practices in Kupang City using quantiative methods. Samples involved in this study numbered 200 fathers with children aged 2 – 6 years old in Kupang City. Sampling used was accidental sampling and data gathered with a 35 items questionnaire. These items were tried in validity and reliability. This study found that fathers involvement in parenting were as high as 83%. Paternal accessibility were identified as the most important fathering aspect. This study also describe the data according to important demographics information. This study needs to be further explored using qualitative approach in order to achieve better and deeper quality of information.]]>

<![CDATA[Competent teacher can improve their abilities in managing classroom according to their students’ needs. Classroom management in early childhood education and development (ECED) post really depends on the teacher. This article aims to understand classroom management as tools of playing and studying for children in kindergarten. This study used qualitative descriptibe approach and triangulation was used to ensure the data quality. Between for class observed, class B1 was identified as the most ideal. Good ventilation and lighting, neat placement of equipments and class tools, not blocking air circulation, according to area and not blocking children play zone, also neat class decoration and clean and comfort class describe this overall class management quality.]]>

<![CDATA[Father have important role in young child’s development. Active and regular involvement from father could give positive impacts to child development. In order to understand general description of father’s involvement in Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) in Kota Kupang, the authors used teacher’s perception as primary data source in this study. The objective of the study is to identify teacher’s perception on fathers’ involvement in ECED in Kupang City. Method used was qualitative with interviews as main data gathering technique. The results showed that father’s involvement in ECED were still limited, proved by statements showing that mother has more active role in ECED compared to father. This is due to the lack of awareness and knowledge of father and other related stakeholders about the importance of father’s involvement in development of their young children. Therefore there are some intervention that need to be applied by teachers in order to improve father’s involvement in ECED that is to give counselling, home visit program, connecting book and also parenting program for fathers.]]>

<![CDATA[The aim of this study was to determine whether there was a significant connection between gadgets usage with early childhood kids’ social interaction at Pasir Panjang Kota Lama Sub-Disctrict Kupang City. This study used a quantitative study with correlation study design. Result showed that there is a significant connection between gadgets usage (X) and social interaction (Y) with correlation number as much as 0,808. This means the higher usage of gadgets will resulted in lesser social interaction between the early childhood kids and their environment. We recommend the parents to control the children’s playtime with their gadgets and spend more time to play with the kids as well as letting them to play with other kids.]]>

<![CDATA[Parenting is one of the most important responsibilities that someone could bear as a parent, probably the most burdensome too. Regardless, several questions are still left unanswered by Indonesian scientists, what are the field of studies related to parenting? What are the problems emanating from the practice of parenting and their solutions? What are the strategic steps one can take as psychology scientist or practitioner to improve parenting in Indonesia? This study examined the application of scoping review to provide responses for aforementioned questions. Just like the way a cartographer map an area in order to advance civilization, a scoping review is meant to enlighten future researchers with the answers on “what has been done?”. Five databases were searched in this review, 94 articles were discovered to undergo further rigorous selection, and 16 chosen articles were charted and analyzed accordingly. Finding shows that education, health, and psychology were the field of studies associated with high quality parenting research in Indonesia. Problems in child’s development caused by bad parenting attracted most researchers’ attention. Solutions provided were unique to each study’s context and hard to generalize. Finally, it is suggested that psychologists’ involvement in national parenting program is inevitable, and should start from today.]]>

<![CDATA[Studi ini ingin memeriksa bagaimana pengaruh kekerasan verbal orang tua terhadap rasa percaya diri anak. Sebanyak 58 orang tua dan 58 anak usia 4-6 tahun terlibat dalam studi ini. Variabel bebas penelitian ini adalah kekerasan verbal orang tua dan variabel terikatnya kepercayaan diri anak. Tahnik sampling purposive digunakan sebagai alat penentuan sample. Alat pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner kekerasan verbal untuk orang tua dan kepercayaan diri untuk anak. Validasi ahli, validasi isi dan validasi statistik digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Tahapan analisis data yang dimulai dengan menguji normalitas data, linearitas data, heteroskedastisitas data, serta uji regresi linear sederhana dan uji hipotesis. Secara signifikan terdapat pengaruh antara kekerasan verbal orang tua (X) terhadap rasa percaya diri anak (Y). Terlihat dari nilai R square diperoleh sebesar 0.432 atau 43.2 persen dengan tingkat pengaruh sedang dengan taraf signifikansi 0.000 kurang dari 0.005. Ini menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh kekerasan verbal orang tua terhadap rasa percaya diri anak usia 4-6 tahun di Kelurahan Mutiara, Kabupaten Alor. Namun 0.568 atau 56.8 persen dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain seperti tingkat pendidikan dan budaya.]]>
