Abstract

Female adults in East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur; NTT) are at risk to be victims of national and international human trafficking. This research describes the motives, psychological impacts, and supports perceived by adult female victims from NTT. Qualitative approach was applied with thematic analysis as the analysis method. Participants were five victims of human trafficking aged between 21 – 37 years old who have returned to NTT. It was found that participants were motivated to worked outside NTT due to economical, familial, and social reasons, while some other participants also reported being forced to work abroad. The perceived psychological impacts were maladaptive behaviors, deep sadness, helplessness, and being ashamed by stigma associated with being victims. Supports that were positively meaningful were the opportunity to share with other victims and to have a counseling sessions with mental health practitioners. Initiative to improve mental health services is indispensable as a base to combat human trafficking and to support victims.

Abstract

Ayah turut memberikan kontribusi penting bagi perkembangan anak. Walaupun penelitian tentang peran ayah sudah semakin terus meningkat selama beberapa dekade terakhir ini tetapi hasilnya masih kontradiksi. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran deskriptif persepsi ayah dalam pengasuhan anak usia dini. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa para ayah telah memahami makna pengasuhan sebagai bentuk keterlibatan ayah dalam mengasuh anak usia dini. Meskipun orientasi pengasuhan yang dimaksud para partisipan adalah interaksi fisik dan tanggung jawab, pengasuhan sudah dipahami sebagai tanggung jawab bersama antara ayah dan ibu (coparenting). Motivasi ayah dalam mengasuh sendiri masih didasarkan karena alasan bisa melakukan pengasuhan jika ibu berhalangan. Jika ayah melakukan pengasuhan dengan alasan yang demikian maka pengasuhan yang seperti ini menciptakan jarak antara ayah dan anak, akibatnya perkembangan anak selanjutnya tidak optimal. Abstract

Attendance rates of children with disabilities are predicted to be lower than other children. Especially for the young children with disabilities. Besides of the reason that it is not easy to detect the disability from earlier, there are not many institutions that provided specialized programs for young children with special needs, one of them is children with autism. This research aims to describe prosocial characteristics of young children with autism. Employed approach were qualitative with observation and interview as the data gathering techniques. Results shown that young children with autism showed prosocial behaviour patterns that is expression from mimicking teacher or parent, able to greet friends when directed by teacher and parent, willing to socialize with other persons, and showing participation in a group as in working together and behaving according to norms, even though all mentioned behaviours were directed by teacher and parent

Abstract

Psychology field in Indonesia has grown for years and its publications have spread in various academic media. The aim of this study was to locate existing literature in a database with solid reputation to give insight about the current progress of psychology in Indonesia. A literature search of PsycINFO database was performed. There were no date or language restrictions. Narrative analysis was used to synthesize findings. Seventy articles were identified from the search terms and four articles were considered relevant. Three of the four relevant studies were focused in the subfield of cross-cultural psychology. Some patterns of publishing in both relevant and irrelevant articles were found and discussed. This study is considered among the first scoping study that has been done in Indonesian context.

Abstract

One of the psychotheraphy approaches that has given positive contributions to the psychiatry is Carl Rogers Client-Centered approach. One of three main conditions that Rogers emphasizes in the approach is Unconditional positive regard. The main condition is called as the curative factor of client-centered theraphy. The article is discussing the study process of unconditional positive regard concept in a person which the sample is the female students. Questions and process flow scheme are also discussed in this article. The study concept is regarded to be able to contribute knowedge to the counseling practitioners in case of facing the student’s problem.

Abstract

Paternal responsibility merupakan salah satu bentuk keterlibatan ayah kepada anak usia dini. Ayah dianggap mampu memahami dan memenuhi kebutuhan dan perkembangan anak, termasuk memberi nafkah dan merencanakan masa depan anak. Paternal responsibility mencakup hal-hal penting bagi anak termasuk nama, sekolah, pendidikan, tempat tinggal, agama dan menggelola keuangan anak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keterlibatan ayah dalam dimensi paternal responsibility kepada anak usia dini di kota Kupang. Penelitian ini melibatkan 154 responden sebagai sampel. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan angket paternal responsibility dan dianalisis dengan pendekatan analisis teoretik-deskriptif dengan menggunakan tabulasi silang (cross-tabulation) dengan alat bantu Microsoft Office Excel 2007. Hasil analisis data menjukkan ada pola yang berbeda tentang keterlibatan ayah dalam dimensi paternal responsibility ketika ditinjau dari beberapa faktor demografik seperti pendidikan ayah, pekerjaan, usia ayah, usia anak, suku, dan urutan kelahiran anak. Penelitian ini hanyalah eksplorasi awal untuk memperoleh gambaran sederhana akan faktor demografis dalam kaitannya dengan keterlibatan ayah dalam pengasuhan anak usia dini. Rekomendasi yang terkait dengan analisis statistik lanjut akan diberikan dari hasil penelitian awal ini untuk keperluan pengembangan program pelibatan ayah dalam pengasuhan anak usia dini.

Abstract

World Health Organization and United Nations Children’s Fund havestated in year 2012 that one of their global agenda is to fulfill the needs of inclusive Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) to increase the participation and development of young children with disabilities. One of important things for the agenda are understanding various special needs of young children with various kind of mental disability, such as mental retardation or nowadays known as intellectual disability. This research aims to narratively describe the prosocial behaviors of a young child with intellectual disability in special school of Pembina Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. This research used qualitative approach with child observation and interview to the parents as the main technique to gather data. This research shows that prosocial behaviors in young children with intellectual disability are divided into four aspects, those are: a) the ability to join groups, b) supportive acts, c) empathy and caring, and d) self-adjustment. These behaviors were shown in the child’s dailyactivities, her habits, affected by the culture and daily activities of her parents and siblings, and also by the interaction with her friends and family. This research could give important information about the importance of managing the social interaction in inclusive ECCD by putting emphasis in four aspects described above, and also the role of parents and ECCD tutors in facilitating activities that could help stimulate specific needs of social skills in young children with intellectual disability.

Abstract

Young children with disabilities are a group that is prone to stigma anddiscrimination. Therefore, World Health Organization and United Nations Children’sFund declared a global agenda in 2012 to address the needs of inclusive ECCD to improve the participation and development of young children with disabilities. In respond to that agenda, it is crucial to understand the particular needs of young children with emotional disorder such as their communication ability, before they can be included into inclusive ECCD service. This research aims to describe the communication skills of young child with emotional disorder in Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur. The participant in this study showed insignificant performance in verbal communication skills like linguistic content, structures and the use of language. Meanwhile in non verbal communication skills such as face expression, body gesture and hand gesture, the child showed considerable performance. The research method used qualitative method, which is direct observation to the child and interview to thesubject’s parents. Parents and ECCD tutors should consider to set a communication- stimulating relationship in house and ECCD post to support the verbal skills development. The result of this study can give impact in the development of inclusive ECCD science in East Nusa Tenggara, also to aid future research in inventing best practice models in the field.

Abstract

The root of empathy has been planted in person since he/she was a baby. Then one of the way to despite foundation of moral education and built children empathy has to be done since early life. Empathy is an ability to understand others’ feeling and capability to put self on others condition. This research used Action Research Method and aims to know children’s empathy after they performs a folklore story by using puppet in front of their friends. This research engaged 5 students aged 5 years old in Lentera Alam Learning Center. There were four steps, 1) Planning; 2) Action; 3) Observation; and 4) Reflection which were done in two cycles. The treatment was teacher told a folklore story to children, then ask children to retell the story for his/her friend by using puppets in front of the class. Check list observation was used during the performance on the first and second cycle. It was found an improvement on children’s empathy, before the treatment pre-test score is 11.2 then post-test on the first cycle 16.8 and the second cycle 22.4. Children’s empathy shown by the ability to distinguished emotions, sharing, helping, asking apologize, giving forgiveness and cheering others friend when they were sad.

Abstract

Father’s involvement in parenting and early childhood education and development (ECED) is a form of active participation in supporting child’s development. Father does not often actively participated in parenting particularly in the community having patrilinial system. The study, conducted from October 2015 to March 2016 in Kupang, aimes at identifying father’s involvement in parenting and ECE. Research design used was qualitative with interview as data collection method. Four heads of urban community participated in this reseatch. Thematic analysis was conducted.The result of the study indicates that fathers in Kupang city have involved themselves in parenting and ECED, but the involvement are limited to economic needs fulfillment while attention and emotional needs are less fulfilled. The study suggests to improve father’s involvement through socializations, seminars or discussions.
