Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan Aktivitas Bahasa Inggris Menyenangkan sebagai metode pengajaran kosakata kepada anak-anak. Dalam penelitian ini, para peneliti menerapkan metode pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Menyenangkan untuk mengajarkan kosakata kepada anak-anak. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini bersifat kuantitatif dengan desain pra-eksperimental. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di SDN Singaraja 2 pada kelas 4 dan 5 dengan melibatkan total 31 peserta siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik kelompok desain. Sebelum dilaksanakan pengajaran, siswa diberikan pre-test, kemudian mereka diberi perlakuan berupa aktivitas seperti lagu, kartu kosakata, dan permainan. Selanjutnya, mereka diberikan post-test setelah pembelajaran selesai dilakukan. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis menggunakan SPSS untuk menilai efektivitas intervensi tersebut. Analisis statistik menunjukkan bahwa nilai n-Gain adalah 0,4 dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,000 <0,05, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa Aktivitas Bahasa Inggris Menyenangkan secara efektif meningkatkan kosakata siswa.

Abstract

Desa Kedokanbunder merupakan salah satu di Indramayu yang memiliki beragam potensi yang perlu dioptimalkan agar memberikan dampak positif baik bagi lingkungan maupun masyarakat, salah satunya yaitu di sektor pendidikan. Berdasarkan hasil observasi, sekolah dasar di Desa Kedokanbunder memiliki siswa yang banyak. Rata-rata jumlah siswa tiap kelas di sekolah dasar yang ada di Desa Kedokanbunder berjumlah lebih dari 30 siswa. Akan tetapi, ditemukan juga bahwa masyarakat Desa Kedokanbunder kurang memperhatikan pendidikan anak mereka serta tidak adanya dukungan pada anak untuk belajar di rumah. Sehingga satu-satunya tempat untuk memperoleh ilmu adalah sekolah. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan siswa sekolah dasar dalam berbahasa Inggris agar mutu dan kualitas siswa di desa ini juga meningkat. Program ini melibatkan siswa kelas 3 SDN 1 Kedokanbunder sebagai peserta. Metode yang digunakan adalah pelatihan melalui media visual yang dapat menarik siswa untuk fokus selama pembelajaran. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mengadakan observasi, pre-test, post-test, dan wawancara singkat. Hasil dari pengabdian ini yaitu kemampuan Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas 3 SDN 1 Kedokanbunder mengalami peningkatan yang dibuktikan oleh adanya peningkatan hasil belajar Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Indriyani et al, (2013) stated that many students had dificulty in understanding the generic structure of analytical exposition text. Therefore, the present study tried to investigate the correlation between students understanding in writing generic structure of analytical exposition and the quality of students’ writing in second grade of senior hight school. Grounded in explanatory correlational research design by Creswell (2011), this study conducted over two weeks in one of senior high school in Indramayu. Close-ended questionnaire and writing test were instruments to collect the data and it was analyzed by using SPSS 22. The statistical calculation from students understanding in writing generic stucture of the text and writing test indicated that the value of tcount was 3.23 and the value of ttable was 0.361. It can be concluded that the hypothesis was accepted because tcount 3.23 > ttable 0.361. The finding reveal that there was middle correlation or middle prediction in students understanding of generic structure of analytical exposition and students writing quality with the score 0,52.

Abstract

One of the difficulties faced by non-native speakers when learning English is pronouncing sounds or words. In this case, there are many kinds of factors or problems. One of them is the feeling of anxiety when speaking English. One of them is English pronunciation anxiety. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of English Pronunciation Anxiety (EPA) of undergraduate students. The second is to determine the indicators of English Pronunciation Anxiety (EPA) of undergraduate students in pronunciation classes. This study used qualitative method and case study as a research design. The participation of this study of second-semester students in the 2022/2023 academic year, with 18 students. Overall, The researcher examined students' anxiety levels in English pronunciation, identifying two levels: "mild" and "moderate." Eight students experienced "mild" anxiety, while ten experienced "moderate" anxiety. The moderate level of anxiety indicated significant anxiety and self-consciousness. The higher scores indicated a higher level of concern about their pronunciation, reflecting a more substantial anxiety and respect for their ability. The study found that undergraduate students at Wiralodra University experienced moderate to high levels of English pronunciation anxiety. This anxiety was attributed to self-consciousness and concern about their pronunciation abilities. The research suggests that educators can use relaxation techniques, constructive feedback, and language-focused activities to manage anxiety. Curriculum developers should incorporate pronunciation-focused activities and improve teacher training programs. Further research is needed to explore the impact of cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds on pronunciation anxiety.

Abstract

The aim of the current study is to explore teachers' perception of the use of Moodle applications in online learning of English as a foreign language (EFL).This is case study research with three English teachers in vocational high school 1 Indramayu as participants. They used Moodle applications in teaching online learning for three semesters. In order to obtain teachers’ perception of the use of the Moodle application in teaching online, interviews were used to gain the data, and it was analyzed qualitatively. The result showed that most teachers had a positive perception towards using the Moodle application in teaching online learning. It helped the teachers to be more creative in delivering the materials because many options or menus can be used. It also makes the teachers more active in using technology. The teachers also agreed that online learning, especially Moodle application, was important for students. The students can easily access any resource to support the material from the teachers. The school and teachers can also monitor and control students’ activities during the teaching-learning process. However, for further research, it is suggested to investigate other different applications that are used by teachers in the teaching and learning process, whether it is online or offline.

Abstract

As one of the language skills, students tend to have difficulties in reading as one of the language skills, especially difficulties in comprehending the text. Because of that, this research aims to investigate undergraduate students' strategies in reading comprehension, which focus on global reading strategy (GLOB), problem-solving strategy (PROB), and support reading strategy (SUP) adapted from Mokhtari & Sheorey (2002). This research was conducted using qualitative research with a case study design. A close-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interview were used as the instruments of this research to gain information about students' reading strategies in reading comprehension, especially in academic reading subjects. Twenty students from the fourth semester of one University in Indramayu participated in this research. The finding shows that the students use PROB with 80,62%, followed by GLOB at 77,38%, and SUP at 73,11%. Students stated in the interview that PROB was helpful and made them focus on understanding information from difficult text. In GLOB, the students usually guess the text content and check whether their guessing related to the text is correct or incorrect. While in SUP, the students circled the text and went back and forth to find the relationship among ideas in the text. Eventually, the findings can be useful for those who wish to conduct a study on students' reading strategies. The further researcher can provide tests to determine the student's ability in reading comprehension to obtain the complete data.

Abstract

One of the key elements of the Kurikulum Merdeka is the transformation of traditional lesson plans into teaching modules. However, many teachers face difficulties in compiling these modules effectively. This study aims to analyze teacher-developed instructional modules and identify the challenges encountered during their development. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through documentation analysis and interviews with four English teachers at senior high schools implementing the Kurikulum Merdeka. The findings reveal that several module components were incomplete, poorly described, or misunderstood by teachers, although most criteria outlined in the curriculum were technically fulfilled. Key challenges included unfamiliarity with new module components and terminology, limited insight into students’ prior English proficiency, insufficient training, inadequate reference materials, and a lack of supporting facilities. These obstacles, if persistent, may undermine the curriculum’s effectiveness. This study contributes practical insights by highlighting context-specific implementation barriers, emphasizing the urgent need for sustained teacher training and institutional support to strengthen module development and ensure successful curriculum integration.  Keywords: Teaching module; Teachers’ Challenges; Kurikulum Merdeka

Abstract

Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi Bahasa Inggris, khususnya keterampilan menulis dan berbicara, pada siswa usia 12 sampai 15 tahun di Rumah Yatim Arrahimah Abu Hurairah, Indramayu. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui program LEAD (Learn, Explain, Apply, Demonstrate) yang mengadopsi pendekatan Project-Based Learning (PBL). Siswa dilibatkan secara aktif dalam pembelajaran teks prosedur melalui empat tahapan utama, yaitu memahami konsep (Learn), menjelaskan kembali secara verbal (Explain), menerapkan dalam bentuk proyek prakarya (Apply), dan mempresentasikan hasil karya dalam Bahasa Inggris (Demonstrate). Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, dokumentasi, tes diagnostik, dan asesmen formatif, kemudian dianalisis secara kualitatif. Hasil menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman struktur teks, kemampuan menulis secara sistematis, serta kepercayaan diri dalam berbicara Bahasa Inggris. Selain itu, program ini juga berdampak positif pada aspek afektif siswa, seperti kepercayaan diri, kreativitas, dan kemampuan kerja sama. Kegiatan ini tidak hanya memberikan manfaat bagi peserta didik, tetapi juga menjadi ajang pembelajaran profesional bagi calon guru dalam menerapkan pembelajaran kontekstual yang inovatif. Program LEAD terbukti efektif dan dapat diadaptasi pada lingkungan pendidikan nonformal lainnya

Abstract

Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah untuk mengetahui implementasi kegiatan Literacy Movement (LiMo) dan Mengetahui pengaruh kegiatan Literacy Movement (LiMo) dalam meningkatkan minat baca anak di SDN 1 Tegalurung, Balongan Indramayu mengingat rendahnya minat baca siswa ini juga terjadi di Kabupaten Indramayu. kegiatan Literacy Movement (LiMo) memiliki empat rangkaian kegiatan yaitu bercerita; bermain; membaca bersama; dan pemberian donasi yang dilakukan dengan mempertimbangkan kebutuhan anak sekolah dasar. Pengabdian ini menggunakan studi kasus dengan observasi, angket dan wawancara sebagai instrumen penelitian dalam mengumpulkan data guna mengetahui permasalahan dan solusi. Hasil pre-observasi melalui angket yang menunjukkan rendahnya minat baca pada siswa. Minat baca siswa kelas IV dan V 39% dan 39,90% kelas VI. Hasil dari kegiatan Literacy Movement (LiMo) terdapat perubahan positif terhadap keinginan siswa untuk membaca. Hasil angket menunjukkan bahwa minat baca siswa meningkat pada angka 70,14% untuk kelas IV, 73,3% untuk kelas V, 74,63% untuk kelas VI yang artinya minat baca siswa menjadi tinggi. Hal ini dapat terjadi dengan mempertimbangkan penyebab rendahnya keinginan atau ketertarikan membaca siswa seperti jenis buku yang cenderung monoton tentang pelajaran, kebutuhan siswa terhadap buku dengan tema non-pendidikan yang edukatif, jenis buku yang digemari siswa.
