Due to the different aspects of the source language and the target language, there are some techniques involved in the translation process in order to achieve the equivalence of the translated works. This study is aimed at analyzing the translation techniques as proposed by Molina and Albir (2002) used by the sixth semester students of the English Department in translating news item texts from English into Indonesian. It also measures the translation quality related to the aspect of accuracy, clarity, and naturalness. And the last, it implies the students’ problems in translation. The findings indicate that, after analyzing and interpreting 225 sentences, literal translation is dominantly used as a technique in translating the source text with the highest used technique in which 149 of 225 sentences applied the technique. In relation to the translation quality, 155 sentences were found as accurate, 172 sentences were clear and 164 sentences were natural with the scoring rate of 2.1, 2.3, and 2.25 points in average. The questionnaire and interview result revealed that incommunicative or incorrect translation happened due to students’ unawareness about the context and the lack of the adequate knowledge about it. Some students also had less understanding about translation techniques.

Abstract

Speaking is a complex skill in language learning, influenced by various internal and external factors. Learners often encounter challenges related to motivation, confidence, interest, environment, mother tongue use, and teaching methods. This research investigates the impact of using YouTube as a learning medium to enhance speaking skills in grade XI students at SMAN 1 Kaliwiro. Specifically, the study aims to (1) analyze the influence of digital literacy, facilitated by YouTube, on the speaking abilities of grade XI students and (2) compare the speaking abilities of students taught using YouTube to those taught using traditional methods. A quantitative experimental design was employed, involving 66 students (33 in class XI Science 2 and 33 in class XI Science 3). The school-based oral assessment (SBOA) form measured pre-test and post-test speaking performance. An independent sample t-test analysis was conducted using SPSS to compare the results. The findings reveal that students taught using YouTube demonstrated a moderately effective improvement in speaking skills, as indicated by a Normalized Gain Test score of 64.13 (64%). Abstract

Great developments in technology make it easier for humans to access various information very quickly, one of which is the use of GPT chat to make it easier for humans to do their work. Data collection in this research was carried out by distributing questionnaires online to students regarding GPT chat using the survey method. Based on the research results, it can be synthesized that new students already understand what GPT chat is. This shows that GPT chat is no longer foreign to students, because of the impact of increasingly rapid technological developments. Apart from that, most students have used GPT chat to complete assignments given by lecturers. The majority of students stated that GPT chat is very useful for students, this is a big alarm for educators considering that if students always use GPT chat to help with their lecture process, it can have a negative impact, one of which is a decrease in students' critical and analytical skills. The positive impact that arises from using GPT chat is that students gain new knowledge that can be used to help develop soft skills.
