Abstract

Distribution of small pelagis fish in FADs, and produktivity of FADs in AmFADs are usually used by fishermen to concentrate fish for an efficient catching activity. However, the number, distance, and distribution in the waters need to be assessed in relation to the productivity of the FADs in order to maintain the sustainability. This study was aimed to map the distribution of FADs; to analyze the distribution of species, number and size of fish associated with FADs; and to calculate FAD productivity based on distribution in the Outer Ambon Bay waters. Data was obtained by observation and interview. Field observation, including: coordinates and number of FADs, species, number and size of fish. The distance and distribution of FADs, was mapped using software (Argis web), while the productivity of FADs was analyzed base on catch per unit effort (CPUE). The result, FAD in Outer Ambon Bay waters was found 25 unit and the average distance of FAD was obtained 0.47 nautical miles, and the placement of the device was irregular. The placement pattern of FADs were generally straight to coastline. Small pelagic fish was found 7 species and the 5 of the dominant species were obtained Decapterus sp, Selar crumenophthalmus, Rastreliger sp, Sardinella sp and Selaroides sp. The species were unevenly spread at each FAD with quite varied sizes. FAD productivity showed that the highest productivity was found in the middle group FAD at Ambon Bay waters. Keywords: Distance, size, small pelagis, productivitybon Bay

Abstract

Fishermen in Wakal Village still water is pot to catch coral fish species. The pot is made from woven bamboo with small hexagonal-shaped cracks. The type of fish that are targeted by the catch usually after being caught in the traps suffer injuries to their bodies as they try to escape through small gaps that are hexagonal. The purpose of this study is to analyze the viability of fish after escaping to the cover net. The data were collected by experimental fishing using four units of pots that were cover net in 20 repetitions. The research was conducted from September to December 2018 in Wakal Village, and Central Maluku Regency. The total number of fish caught is only 2.83% of fish that escape into the net cover. Fish that escaped are divided into 7 species including Plectrypops lima, Pinjalo lewisi, Ephinephelus tauvina, Chaetodon kleini, Centropyge bicolor, Priolepis cincta, Paraluteres prionurus. The cause of fish death is not only assessed from the wounds on the body of the fish when escaping or the wounds resulting from contact with other fish but the stress from the fish itself. The environmental factors that greatly affect the survival of fish when escaping are temperature and salinity.

Abstract

The highest protein resource is come from fish and fish meat contains Omega-3 Fatty Acid. Unfortunately, a publication of mercury contamination on fish has created public unsettling. Unlicensed gold mining in Buru Island and cinnabar rocks in Seram Island provides plenty of job opportunities, however the tailing causes mercury contamination into the ocean. It is therefore, teach people on how to consume fish without any further mercury contamination should be done. The aims of this public service is to provoke young age people or students to eat fish. It is also to teach students avoiding of being dangerous mercury contaminated. To achieve these aims, we discussed with Prof.Dr. Y. Malle, M.Si regarding mining contamination and continued with library searched. Then we taught this information to primary student of Citra Kasih Primary school in Ambon. Focus group discussion involving a professor who is expert on mercury contamination, and he concluded that the mining has contaminated surroundings sea water. Fish also can be contaminated through food chain. The important information should be taught to the people especially the young age or students. During the innovation and outing day of Citra Kasih Primary School, this important information was taught to the students. They were so enthusiasm to learn how to eat healthy fish without being contaminated. The Omega-3 fatty acid is important for their brain and their balance, so fish meals should put in their diet menu. It is concluded that fish provide protein and contain Omega-3. Eat healthy fish is by avoiding fish head and fish body cavity to avoid contamination.

Abstract

Poverty among fishermen is a complex problem and often occurs in many coastal areas and small islands. Fishermen depend heavily on fish catches for their income, however, they are very vulnerable to seasonal fluctuations, climate change, limited infrastructure, access to capital, social security and price competition. The factors faced by fishermen cause unstable economic conditions and make them vulnerable to poverty. This condition is also experienced by tuna handline fishermen in Haya Village, Central Maluku Regency. Community Service Activities (PKM) aim to identify problems with small-scale tuna handline fisheries and assist in the institutional formation of a Joint Business Group (KUB) for tuna handline fisheries in Haya Village. Implementation of activities begins with training, Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and assistance in establishing KUB. This activity is in the form of a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) with partners and other stakeholders. Mitra is a small-scale tuna hand-line fisherman who has experience and is of productive age. The results of identifying partner and stakeholder problems through the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method are decreasing fish resources, weak availability of facilities and infrastructure, low technology, weak institutions, and not yet optimal policy implementation. In this PKM activity, fishing operation management material is presented as material for gaining knowledge, experience and real conditions of fishermen management in handline fishing activities. All participants were very enthusiastic about taking part in this activity by providing feedback and suggestions for developing their fisheries business in the future. The implementation of the formation of Joint Business Groups (KUB) is expected to be able to overcome fishermen's problems, provide motivation, and be innovative and collaborative in groups. PKM activities were carried out well, apart from that, partners had increased capability, cooperation, communication and commitment within the group for fisheries business development.
