Abstract

Abstract

The pot construction used by fishermen is currently contrary to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which focus on the sustainable development of marine resources. The purpose of this study was to analyze the behaviour of the butterflyfish when they entered and escaped from the button pot. The research was conducted in April-May 2020. The data collected was in the form of types and body circumferences of fish that passed to the cover net. The results showed that a total of 353 fish were caught. The total number of fish caught was only 2.83% of the fish that escaped into the cover net which was dominated by fish from the Chaetodontidae family. The pattern of behaviour of the butterfly fish starts from when the fish approaches the pot (nearfild), when it enters the trap (ingress), and when it escapes, it has the same behaviour pattern as reef fish in general, namely spinning, walking along walls, and or swim while looking for gaps that can escape.

Abstract

Being a parent with a child with special needs puts pressure on them because they have to pay more attention, not the same as normal children in general and often this pressure has the impact of psychological distress on parents. This also happened to parents of children with special needs at the Haruru State SLB. Psychological distress for parents of children with special needs greatly impacts various aspects, one of which is spiritual well being. Based on research conducted by several parents of children with special needs, they have low spiritual well being, therefore it is necessary to have therapy to improve their spiritual well being. The counseling method used to improve low spiritual well being is spiritual counseling with ten counseling sessions. There were 6 participants involved and all of these participants attended counseling until the last session. The results of the study show that theistic spiritual counseling is effective in improving the spiritual well being of parents of children with special needs who experience psychological distress. This can be seen from the sig value of 0.061 that there were changes before and after counseling was carried out for parents of children with special needs.

Abstract

Gear selectivity is an important part of controlling the size of fish that are suitable for catching so that fish resources are maintained. The size of the hook is one of the factors that affect the selectivity of the fishing line. The purpose of this study is to analyze the selectivity of fishing lines on the results of catching Selar crumenopthalmus. Fish sampling was carried out by following a series of fishing operations by fishermen using hook sizes no. 17 and 18. The Holt method was used to analyze and calculate the selectivity of hook size operated by fishermen on the total length of the fish line. Size distribution of the total length of hook no. 17 in the middle-class size 16.5 cm – 22.5 cm and hook no. 18 in the middle-size class 16.5 cm – 20.5 cm. The distribution of length sizes on both hooks tends to be normally distributed and the proportion of large lengths is higher on hook no. 17. The 50% and optimal (100%) chance of being caught for hook size no. 17 is 18.3 and 20.1 cm, respectively. while the size of hook no. 18 is 167 cm and 18 cm. It is recommended to use hook size for trevally resources in the Seram Strait waters is hook no. 17.

Abstract

Community outreach regarding sustainability of purse seine fishery aims to refresh fishers’ knowledge on the impact of purse seine on the small pelagic resources in Ambon waters. The steps of this activity were started with observation, followed by assessment on the results and continued with community outreach focusing to fishers from Laha Village, Ambon City. The catch of purse seine was composed by Sardine (Sardinella spp), Scads (Decapterus spp and Selar crumenophthalmus), and Indian Mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta). Based on the length-frequency of catch, only Indian Mackerel was categorized as undersized (the legal size is 21.7 cm). It is suggested to fishers to lively return several small fish of Indian Mackerel back to ocean. This action will provide an opportunity for the fish to reach reproduction size and reproduce sustaining its population. Fishers agreed to return the fish lively in order to sustain the population of Indian Mackerel. Therefore, monitoring to the sustainability of small pelagic fishes should be continued.

Abstract

Fishermen use the pots based on their construction that operated from then until now.The catch is most small fish target and unfish target. The objective of this study was to analysiz the effectiveness of ascape gap of pots. The study was conducted from September to November 2021 in the waters of Ambon Island. Data collected in the form of type, number (tail), total length (cm), and body circumference of fish (cm) from the catch at each hauling. The results showed that the total number of catches as many as 20 trips is 154 fish that escaped amounted to 114 fish. The size of 2 cm fish that escaped amounted to 17 tails, the size of 2.5 cm amounted to 44 tails and the size of 3 cm amounted to 53 tails while the fish that did not escape amounted to 40 tails. The chance of catching fish that escaped at a gap of 2 cm is 11%, at a gap of 2.5 cm is 29%, at a gap of 3 cm is 34% while those who do not escape are 26%. The chances of fish escaping are determined by body depth, body girth and The Shape of the escape gap.

Abstract

The rising cost of petalite fuel oil is causing concern for small-scale fishermen, particularly trolley fishermen, in the coastal regions of Ambon City. The public has expressed frustration with the increase, as it has the potential to raise the cost of living and necessities. This study aims to provide a more in-depth understanding of the issue and offer recommendations for Ambon City's fishermen in response to the government's frequent fuel price hikes. The research was conducted between November 2022 and January 2023 using observation and interview methods, along with questionnaires. Ambon City fishermen primarily use diluted Pertalite fuel, which costs IDR 15,000 in Laha, Hative Besar, and Latuhalat villages, and Rp 13,000 in Seri Village. Fishermen from different villages use differing amounts of fuel, with Laha Village fishermen using 20 liters per trip, Hative Besar Village using 5 liters, Latuhalat Village using 60 liters, and Seri Village using 40 liters. Comparing the income before and after the fuel increase, the results indicate that fishermen's income decreased after the fuel increase, with a decrease percentage of 47.12%

Abstract

Abstract

Yellowfin tuna is the leading prima donna in the capture fisheries sector in Maluku Province with a total national contribution of the two foreign exchange earners. The increase in production volume has not been able to meet the increasing demand for regional and global markets. This has led to an increase in fishing intensity in almost all Indonesian waters. Especially in Maluku. The increasing intensity of fishing causes yellowfin tuna to experience fishing pressure which can result in a decrease in stock size, both individual size and population size. The method used is the delivery of theoretical material and interactive discussions to fishermen. The results of the counseling on efforts to maintain the sustainability of the yellowfin tuna fisheries show that the community understands the importance of the availability of catch data both in the number and size of fish caught. The community must also participate in efforts to limit the number of fish caught because it is a wise thing to provide opportunities for fish to reproduce. This counseling is a very relevant suggestion to the condition of the available yellowfin tuna fishery resources

Abstract

Taman Sejarah Hamlet is located in Waesala Village, Huamual Rear District, West Seram. It’s location by the coastline makes it an ideal spot for fishing activities. Most of it’s residents work as fishermen due to their easy access to the sea. However, the fishermen are currently facing a fish resource crisis, with a significant and decline in fish populations every year. Overfishing is one of the main factors causing this crisis. The lack of information and understanding among the fishermen about marine conservation means that fishing and management of marine resources cannot be properly measured or managed. The community service being carried out in Taman Sejarah Hamlet aims to provide enlightenment and positive contributions to the local fishing community about how to manage marine resources well and wisely.
