Abstract

This paper focuses on the using of social media as part of digital medias to enhance writing skill that to be one of  issues of Indonesian students. Internet facilities and social media are becoming increasingly important and take a strategic role in most of human activities included education and learning sector. The study was conducted at Tidar University, explored the experiences of second semester students supported the hypothesis that as students from non-English countries enter the globalization era where English is the norm, they are faced with the challenge of learning a new language especially in writing which has many requirements to make it such as vocabularies, grammar ideas and habit as a prerequisite to successful and further thriving .The fact that Indonesian students often played digital media as online communication stimulates young learners social connectedness. Academic achievement would also benefit from their activities, having access to a teaching material aimed at delivering skills for the use of Internet and digital technology. From the qualitative research done, the writer explored the new trend of digital media especially using social media to enhance writing ability as the facilities in autonomous learning because they are confronted with social media in their daily life anyway where they could use many channels they wanted to receive the information and learnt to share their writing freely and comfortably. From  findings, it can be concluded that social media boosts the writing proficiency, influences the autonomy and promotes independent of learning writing, improves the vocabularies references, increases the confidences, explores the experience and styles  also solves other academic difficulties such as grammatical rules, exploring  and also developing ideas

Abstract

Setiap bahasa mempunyai deixis yang berbeda-beda, karena setiap bahasa mempunyai perbedaan aturan dan latar belakang budaya. Penggunaan dan aturan yang berbeda ini terkadang akan menyulitkan seseorang atau siswa yang bukan seorang native speaker untuk mempelajari bahasa baru, karena ia juga harus mempelajari tentang budaya dimana suatu bahasa itu ada. Jika ia tidak mempelajari itu, komunikasi menjadi tidak seimbang dan mungkin akan melakukan atau mengucapkan sesuatu yang tidak seharusnya. Jika hal ini terjadi, akan menimbulkan kecenderungan untuk terjadi kesalah pahaman. Jadi jika seseorang ingin mempelajari bahasa, harus mempelajari juga tentang aturan dan latar belakang budaya bahasa tersebut. Selain kita juga harus mengetahui aspek lainnya seperti karakter pembicara, tujuan, permasalahan dan situasi dalam pembicaraan.  Kata Kunci : Deixis, pembelajar dan perbedaan budaya

Abstract

Cigarettes in Indonesia becomes a problem that makes anxious in society, included an Indonesian author named Taufiq Ismail. Through some of his poetry such as Tuhan Sembilan Senti, Indonesia Keranjang Sampah Nikotin, dan Perokok adalah Serdadu Berani Mati, Taufiq Ismail revealed various cigarette problems in Indonesia. This research was conducted as an effort to overcome the problem of smoking which must continue to be pursued. The aim of this research is to know the social facts about smoking in Taufiq Ismail's poetry so that it can be used as teaching materials about the dangers of smoking. This research is an effort to control the level of cigarette consumption in Indonesia and it deal with the government's plan to include the dangers of smoking at the junior high school level. This study uses the theory of literary sociology to discuss social problems about cigarettes depicted in that poetry. This study also uses qualitative research methods which the collecting data is taken by reading and recording. The collected data is analyzed with the approach of literary sociology theory. The results of research indicate those poetry by Taufiq Ismail reveal the problem of cigarettes that can be used as teaching material for the dangers of smoking for junior high school students.

Abstract

Program BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing) mempunyai peranan penting untuk memperkenalkan bahasa Indonesia tetapi juga adat istiadat dan budaya Indonesia kepada dunia. Bersinergi dengan kebutuhan tersebut Program BIPA dituntut untuk dapat melayani kebutuhan pembelajar. Ketersediaan buku ajar BIPA yang masih terbatas menjadi kendala utama dalam pembelajaran. Seiring dengan tuntutan pembelajar maka perlu adanya pembaharuan buku ajar yang lebih praktis dan komunikatif. Membicarakan pembelajaran bahasa, lingkungan merupakan sesuatu yang sangat penting dalam kaitan dengan keberhasilan pembelajaran bahasa itu. Sehingga sehingga perlu adanya refleksi dari pola pembelajaran sebelumnya dengan konteks yang disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan pembelajar serta berinteraksi langsung dengan masyarakat untuk mendapatkan pengalaman nyata sehingga maksimal dalam pembelajarannya. Kondisi yang terlihat secara natural ini diharapkan mampu menjawab kebutuhan para pembelajar yang menuntut untuk mampu berkomunikasi dengan bahasa Indonesia secara aktif dan lancar. Langkah-langkah dalam penelitian ini dibagi tiga yaitu metode pengumpulan data, metode analisis data dan pembuatan buku ajar.Metode pengumpulan data yang dilakukan yaitu: observasi, wawancara, angket, dan melakukan studi pustaka. Subjek penelitian ini dibedakan menjadi dua macam, yakni (1) subjek  yang digunakan untuk penjaringan data dalam analisis kebutuhan belajar dan (2) subjek yang digunakan untuk triangulasi dan uji coba produk. Analisis dalam penelitian ini dimulai setelah data dari instrument dikodekan dan ditafsirkan berdasarkan checklist dan skala. Data verbal dan pemetaan domain pembelajaran BIPA digunakan untuk mengembangkan rancangan buku ajar. Data hasil triangulasi dan uji coba tersebut selanjutnya dianalisis kembali menggunakan teknik analisis domain untuk revisi produk. Jadi secara garis besar tahapan dalam penelitian ini yaitu (1) observasi, (2) merancang dan mengembangkan buku ajar, (3 validasi oleh ahli, (4) revisi produk, (5) pengimplementasian buku ajar dan (6) evaluasi/ refleksi.

Abstract

MGMP Guru Bahasa Inggris  SMP merupakan wadah guru-guru Bahasa Inggris SMP di Kabupaten Magelang yang menyelenggarakan berbagai program atau kegiatan untuk meningkatkan profesionalitas dan kompetensinya. Dari observasi yang dilakukan, permasalahan yang dialami secara umum yaitu  (1) Guru-guru Bahasa Inggris SMP di Kabupaten Magelang secara umum terhambat dalam administrasi guru sehingga membutuhkan pelatihan  mengenai penyusunan karya ilmiah berupa pembuatan jurnal, (2) belum mampu meningkatkan profesionalitas mereka dalam produktifitas dan publikasi karya ilmiah dan (3) belum mampu berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan mutu lembaga khususnya dari produktifitas dan publikasi tulisan- tulisan ilmiah. Dari permasalahan diatas, maka perlu adanya pendampingan dalam pembuatan karya ilmiah yang terpublikasi dalam seminar dan jurnal. Karena kegiatan ini tidak hanya sebatas penelitian tetapi juga mengadakan pelatihan didalamnya, maka peneliti juga mengadakan  pendampingan yang dilakukan selama 10x pertemuan di pusat MGMP bhs Inggris Kab. Magelang, dengan materi berupa karya ilmiah dan jurnal  Kegiatan ini diharapkan memberikan manfaat bagi guru-guru Bahasa Inggris SMP di kabupaten Magelang pada khususnya dan Guru pada umumnya  dalam meningkatkan mutu sekolah , profesionalitas dan kompetensi, sehingga para guru dengan mandiri dapat secara berkesinambungan menyusun karya ilmiah yang sekaligus dipublikasikan  dalam jurnal atau karya ilmiah lainnya.

Abstract

Kebijakan pemerintah akibat adanya kasus Covid 19 menyebabkan pembelajaran yang biasanya dilaksanakan dengan tatap muka beralih secara tiba-tiba pada pembelajaran daring. Dalam pelaksanaannya terdapat problematika dalam pembelajaran daring salah satunya kebingungan mahasiswa dalam memahami materi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan modul virtual keterampilan membaca berbasis flipbook maker untuk mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia FKIP UNTIDAR. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Research & Development (R&D) dengan menggunakan model Borg and Gall. Langkah pengembangan dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari penelitian dan pengumpulan data, perencanaan produk, dan pengembangan draf produk. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan berupa analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Langkah pengembangan modul virtual keterampilan membaca dimulai dengan (1) melakukan studi lapangan dan pustaka dengan mengobservasi kelas dan mengkaji teori dan hasil penelitian yang relevan. (2) Merencanakan produk dengan meninjau materi yang terdapat dalam silabus mata kuliah membaca dan pengajaran membaca serta menyusun materi, (3) mengembangkan draf produk modul yang telah disusun dan mentransformasikannya dalam modul virtual.Government policies due to the Covid-19 case have caused learning that is usually carried out face-to-face to suddenly switch to online learning. In practice, there are problems in online learning, one of which is the confusion of students in understanding the material. This study aims to develop a virtual module of flipbook maker based reading skills for students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, FKIP UNTIDAR. This research is a Researcrh & Development (R&D) research using the Borg and Gall model. The development steps in this research consist of research and data collection, product planning, and product draft development. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate that the step of developing the virtual module of reading skills begins with (1) conducting field and literature studies by observing the class and reviewing relevant theories and research results. 2) Planning the product by reviewing the material contained in the syllabus of reading courses and teaching reading and compiling materials, (3) developing a draft of the module product that has been compiled and transforming it into a virtual module.

Abstract

Based on constructivism philosophy, this study investigates to find the learning technique of writing, in order to substitute the conventional technique of writing to improve writing skill. Log and conferencing technique has many advantages to reach the needs. In English syllabus of Animal Science program at Universitas Tidar, it is emphasized to apply writing in scientific form, so the use of grammar, diction and idea must be done appropriately. The major discussion is what learning log and conferencing is and how to apply it also how effective the learning model with this technique in improving writing skills for non-English Department students. Specific study has been given to make comfortable the relation and communication between teacher and student gradually and regularly. To get this aim, this study concerns with log and conferences techniques to animals science and using the new steps on writing learning style. The data from students and lecturers were collected and analyzed. Data analysis shows that the conferences appeared by variety of topics such as writing aspect, learning habits and English writing ability of each student. Second, the lecturer used varieties of approaches to communicate with each student in writing learning using learning log. Finally, the conferences contribute to a deliberative process critical to the process of learning to write. The students found conversations with the instructor helpful in their subsequent revisions whereas the instructor gained a better understanding of students’ difficulties in writing.

Abstract

This paper describes about the problems in the speech act of Non-English department students especially in speaking class. Assessing the product tends to be more difficult than assessing the receptive skills namely listening and reading. The lecturer needs to pay more attention in assessing these skills, especially for non-English department students who are in the beginning level of English ability. Therefore, the aims of this research were to find out: The test format, marking criteria and the scoring scheme used by the lecturers in assessing students‘ productive skills in part of Speech Act. This study used descriptive qualitative method.  Data  collection  techniques  were carried out through observation, recording, and carried  notes  taking  techniques. The subject of this research is the 1st-semester student of the accounting program. The data were taken from observation, interview and document analysis. The results of this research were : 1) The test formats used by the teachers to assess speaking skills were interview, picture description, and presentation. The criteria used by the teachers were pronunciation, vocabulary and fluency for speaking assessment. The lecturers use the scoring scale to score students‘ productive skills. The scale itself depends on the criteria or language components which were being assessed and each scale of score has its own description.

Abstract

This research describes about the problems of writing in university level. Writing becomes a challenging and complicated skill to master. Some of components must be involved and integrated proportionally. Therefore, project-based learning is offered to solve the problems. This study purposes to explore the improvement of project-based learning in the students’ writing in the fourth semester students of the English Education Program and the students’ responses when it is implied in learning writing. Qualitative was used as a research method and classroom action research as a research design. The research sample was fourth-semester students from English Education Program in a university in Magelang, Central Java in the academic year 2022-2023. To collect the data it is using observation, test, and questionnaire then for analyzing the data is using triangulation. The result found that project-based learning is able to improve the students writing achievements. It could be seen from the increasing of the score for each cycle (writing better) and students’ positive responses during the implementation of this method from improving of students’ activeness and motivation in writing learning. So it can be stated that Project Based Learning increases mark and encouragement of students’ writing learning.
