Abstract

Kebiasaan mengkonsumsi daging dan gorengan oleh masyarakat di Kelurahan Malendeng cukup tinggi, kondisi ini dapat menyebabkan timbulnya penyakit degeneratif seperti hipertensi. Bahan-bahan alam telah digunakan sebagai obat tradisional untuk mengobati berbagai penyakit, salah satu contohnya adalah Bawang Putih. Bawang Putih Fermentasi (Black Garlic) merupakan hasil olahan Bawang Putih. Khasiat Bawang Putih Fermentasi lebih baik jika dibandingkan dengan Bawang Putih biasa karena proses fermentasi menyebabkan peningkatan kadar senyawa bioaktif di dalamnya. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada masyarakat khususnya ibu-ibu PKK tentang cara pengolahan dan pemanfaatan Bawang Putih Fermentasi (Black Garlic) sebagai pangan fungsional untuk membantu mengobati penyakit hipertensi. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat oleh dosen dan mahasiswa Jurusan Farmasi Poltekkes Kemenkes Manado meliputi pelatihan pengolahan Bawang Putih menjadi Bawang Putih Fermentasi (Black Garlic) dan pemanfaatannya sebagai pangan fungsional yang dapat digunakan untuk membantu pengobatan penyakit hipertensi. Pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi beberapa tahap, yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan terpenuhinya target capaian kegiatan yang terlihat pada peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat terkait materi Pengabmas, dan peserta pelatihan tertarik dan mau membuat dan menggunakan Bawang Putih Fermentasi (Black Garlic) untuk membantu mengobati hipertensi.

Abstract

Improving community welfare can be done by providing skills training for the community and encouraging entrepreneurial spirit. Training in making soap with coconut oil was conducted in Kalasey II Village, Mandolang District. Minahasa is known as one of the coconut producers. Several UMKM in Minahasa have processed coconuts into pure coconut oil. The people of Kalasey II Village who have home businesses in the form of UMKM are still very few. The woman who are mostly active at home can be encouraged to use their free time to create entrepreneurship so that they can get additional income. The purpose of implementing this activity is to provide knowledge and motivation to become entrepreneurs for the community through making soap to increase family income. Training activities are carried out by explaining the materials and tools used, and a demonstration of making soap to packaging. The soap produced can be used for family needs and as a business opportunity to make souvenirs from soap.

Abstract

Cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L.) and sesewanua leaves (Clerodendron squamatum Vahl) can be used as an alternative antibacterial treatment. Antibacterial testing of single compositions has been widely carried out but not yet on a combination of these two plants. The study aims to determine the antibacterial potential of a combination of ethanol extracts of cherry leaves and sesewanua leaves against Staphylococcus aureus. Cherry leaves and sesewanua leaves were extracted using the maceration method, 96% ethanol solvent. The test solution was made at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%. The combination was made by mixing each concentration with a ratio of 1:1. Testing using the disc diffusion method, positive control Ciprofloxacin, negative control Sodium CMC 1%, observed 1x24 hours. The inhibition zone was measured using a caliper. The average results of the inhibition zone diameter of the ethanol extract of cherry leaves were 8.74±0.25 mm, 9.27±0.15 mm, 10.21±0.30 mm, the ethanol extract of sesewanua leaves was 6.96±0.83 mm, 7.46±0.56 mm, 7.17±0.13 mm. The combination of ethanol extract of cherry leaves and sesewanua leaves was 7.51±0.49 mm, 8.30±0.61 mm, 9.70±0.20 mm, Ciprofloxacin was 26.52±3.44 mm. The best results were at a concentration of 15% but not optimal. In conclusion, single extract of cherry leaves, single extract of sesewanua leaves, combination of ethanol extract of cherry leaves and sesewanua leaves (1:1) at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15% have moderate antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The inhibitory power is greater in the single extract of cherry leaves compared to the combination of extracts.

Abstract

Starch is a commonly used excipient in pharmaceutical formulations due to its favorable physicochemical properties. Bananas represent a promising natural source of starch. One potential source is Goroho banana (Musa acuminata), an endemic plant from North Sulawesi that remains underexplored as a pharmaceutical excipient. This study aimed to characterize the physicochemical properties of starch isolated from unripe goroho banana and to evaluate its potential as a binder in tablet formulation. The starch was isolated and subsequently subjected to physicochemical characterization. Chemical characterization included proximate analysis (moisture, ash, fat, and protein content) and determination of amylose and amylopectin content. Physical characterization involved the observation of starch granule morphology using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the analysis of gelatinization profile using rapid visco analyzer (RVA). The obtained starch yield was 7.66%, with a slightly brownish-white appearance. The gelatinization temperature was recorded at 74.35 °C, and the pH of 1% starch dispersion was 7.76. Morphological analysis revealed that the starch granules were oval to spherical in shape with relatively smooth surfaces. Tablet formulation evaluation showed that all formulations met the requirements for weight uniformity and disintegration time (<15 minutes). Formulations F3 and F4 complied with the hardness requirement, while all formulations exhibited friability values >1%, indicating that they did not meet the acceptable friability standard. These findings suggest that goroho banana starch possesses suitable physicochemical characteristics for use as a pharmaceutical excipient, particularly as a binder. However, further formulation optimization is required to improve the mechanical strength of the resulting tablets.
