Abstract

Recent studies showed that well-being has been decreasing in both Asia and the United States of America. Another study found that college students’ well-being was also declining. These findings suggest that ways to increase well-being become very crucial to be explored, such as exploring what variables that correlates or affect it. Previous findings found that religiosity, specifically believing and belonging dimension, affects well-being. This study explore how believing and belonging correlates with well- being and its five dimensions, positive emotions, engagement, positive relationships, meaning, and accomplishment among 181 college students. The result shows that both believing and belonging correlates with the five dimensions of well-being significantly, meaning that the belief in God and belonging into religious groups helps individual’swell-being to flourish.

Abstract

A lot of individuals have lived their lives with a strong attachment towards religion; however some of them still have a high aggressive behavior. This phenomenon is also evident in the youth communities within the church. The core teaching of the Christianity is love, in which love is supposed to inhibit individuals to initiate aggressive behavior. This study aims to explore the correlation between religiosity, which has two components (intrinsic religiosity orientation and extrinsic religiosity orientation), towards aggressive behavior in youth communities within the church. This study used quantitative method. To obtain and collect the data, we used the aid of questionnaire distributed through purposive technique towards 87 subjects. The instruments included the Verbal Aggressive Scale for the aggressive behavior, the I/E-R Scales to measure religious orientation, and Faith Development Scale to measure the development of faith in each individual. The result of this research pointed out that there is no significant correlation between intrinsic religious orientation and aggressive behavior and that is a positive correlation between extrinsic religious orientation and aggressive behavior.

Abstract

Pleasure takes part as an underlying motivation in decision making activities, including when committing conventional and reckless behaviors. Whereas previous studies have confirmed that individuals with higher level of religiosity commit less reckless behaviors, little attention is given to further identify their pleasure perceptions toward performing such actions. This study was intended to fill the gap by demonstrating if higher level of religiosity among emerging adults would change perceptions of pleasure, which in turns reduce the likelihood of performing reckless behavior. A total of 441 data of emerging adults (Mage= 20.69; SD = 1.71) living in Jakarta and Tangerang were gathered. The survey found that there exists a negative influence of religiosity towards perception of pleasure in emerging adults’ reckless behavior. This study suggests that in attempt to reduce reckless behavior, practitioners could use indirect religious approaches, including: adopting religious morality, providing a supportive community, and practicing relaxing rituals.

Abstract

Stress is a phenomenon that is often found among adolescents. This is because the ability to regulate emotions in adolescents is still very minimal. This becomes quite concerning if emotions cannot be regulated properly because it can lead to affecting mental health such as depression to suicide. The purpose of this research is to see how the role of the dimensions of differentiation of self can contribute to the use of the Emotional Regulation strategy. This study involved respondents with the characteristics of teenagers aged 18-25 years and domiciled in Greater Jakarta. Researchers used a sampling technique in the form of purposive sampling. The results of data collection in the field were 128 respondents but after only 108 respondents were declared valid and involved in the final results of the study. The results of data analysis using the JASP program version 0.15.10, with the multiple linear regression test method. The results of the correlation analysis showed that there was only a significant correlation in Cognitive Reappraisal with the Maintaining Identity dimension. On the other hand, the Expressive Suppression strategy is significantly correlated with all dimensions of the Differentiation of Self. This study has fulfilled all the classic assumption tests and regression tests showing that only the Maintaining Identity dimension can contribute significantly positively to the use of Cognitive Reappraisal strategies. On the other hand, the dimensions of Relational Sensitivity and Emotional Distancing can significantly contribute to the use of Expressive Suppression strategies.

Abstract

Spiritual education and growth often involves a searching and struggling phase that can be disruptive to one’s well-being. However, if these questing phases are indeed a natural part of the spiritual journey, then strategies are needed to manage them. This article examines the relationship between the psychological phase of seeking (Quest) and well-being (Flourishing), as well as the contribution of the Managing Identity dimension of the concept of Self-Differentiation. Data were collected from 303 seminary students from 28 theological colleges in Indonesia. Multilevel regression analysis found that Quest did negatively predict seminary students’ well-being (β=-.13, p<.01), however Managing Identity of Self-Differentiation contributed more positively to well-being (β=.61, p<.01). The implications of these findings will be discussed. The Quest and Self-Differentiation dimensions were found to be closely related to Reformed theology, soteriology and ecclesiology, and the focus on the reality of the Trinity that models Christian life.

Abstract

Dating is a common experience among students entering young adulthood, a stage often marked by the challenge of forming intimate connections. Relationship quality plays a key role in determining dating’s impact on students. Therefore, it is essential for dating students to assess their relationship quality and understand the influencing factors. Relationship quality can be evaluated by measuring relationship satisfaction. This study investigated the contributions of differentiation of self and neuroticism toward relationship satisfaction of female students in Jabodetabek. The data was collected from 84 participants via electronic questionnaires distributed through social media and directly to universities in Jabodetabek. The findings indicated that both differentiation of self and neuroticism significantly contributed to relationship satisfaction. Differentiation of self not only enhances relationship satisfaction but can also mitigate the negative impact of neuroticism.

Abstract
