Abstract

This article, particularly, discusses about the points of Ibn Rusyd thought in his work entitled Faṣl al-Maqāl Fīmā Baina al-Ḥikmah wa al-Syarī‘ah min al-Ittiṣāl. This work is one of the original and important works belonging to Ibn Rusyd, besides of his other three main works, namely al-Kasyf ‘an Manāhij al-Adillah fī ‘Aqāid al-Millah, Tahāfut al-Tahāfut and Bidāyah al-Mujtahid wa Nihāyah al-Muqtaṣid. Faṣl al-Maqāl was written by him as a response to the intellectual condition in his era, that was the war of thought (gazwah al-fikr) between a group that rejected philosophy, that was spearheaded by jurisprudence experts (fuqahā’) and a group of philosophers. Hence, Ibn Rusyd as a supreme judge (qāḍī al-quḍāt) at that moment, felt the need to reconcile them by showing that there was no opposition and there was nothing to contradict between religion and philosophy. This work was also intended to purify the philosophical thought of Aristoteles. There are three points of Ibn Rusyd thought in Faṣl al-Maqāl: first, reconciling between philosophy and syari’ah; second, ta’wil as a method that was offered by him to find the common ground of the two entities; third, explanation about the central issues that become the reason for the conflict between philosophers and a group that rejected philosophy. From the explanations of Ibn Rusyd, it seemed that he was affected by the other figures like Aristoteles and the early Muslim philosophers. Some of the issues contained in this book are also commented and criticized by the authorities or scholars who studied Ibn Rusyd thought.

Abstract

Abstract Materialistic life orientation in the modern era is the reason for the emergence of various life problems, especially psychological problems. One of the psychological problems that arise is the meaninglessness of life or an existential vacuum. If it does not receive serious attention, then the problem has the potential to cause mental health disorders that, in fact, now plague many modern humans. Those who are sober, gradually begin to seek to find solutions to overcome the psychological burden by turning to certain life paths. Among them are those who dive into the world of spirituality, some go through philosophical paths such as Stoicism, which is now widely loved. Therefore, digging into various traditions to find the right solution in overcoming mental health disorders is paramount. Such efforts can also be made through Islamic philosophy. One philosopher who paid special attention to mental health issues was al-Rāzī. This is contained in his thoughts on Philosophic Life. This is the main discussion in this study. The results of this study illustrate that although such thinking appears to defend misunderstood Socrates’ life paths, yet the real philosophic life—instead of imitating Socrates—is to imitate the attributes of God. As for al-Rāzī’s application of the Philosophic Life: training the control of passions; not hurting other beings; not hurting ourself; does not go beyond the extreme limits (defect or excess); and imitate the attributes of God to the extent of man’s abilities. Abstract

One of the issues that have been considered in the public sphere today is the issue of the transgender phenomenon. Transgender is related to the problem of gender identity. It refers to the condition in which the perpetrators identify their identity and gender differently from their sex biologically. It's caused by dissatisfaction and incompatibility between their body and soul. The term transgender might not be so familiar in Indonesia. However, to indicate that phenomenon, some of the people called them "waria”, “priawan” or “tomboy". Generally, their existences were still hard to be accepted because Indonesian people considered this phenomenon as a deviation and it contradicts the moral value and religion in Indonesian society. In the teachings of Islam, the transgender phenomenon has been existed in the early days of the development of Islam, and it has been forbidden strictly. The Islamic view about this issue could be found in the prophet’s hadith explicitly. Hence, to understand this phenomenon, we need to study the hadith. The purpose is as a basis for addressing the transgender phenomenon that was prevalent in Indonesia. The understanding implementation of this hadith, in general, is not easy, because Indonesia is not a country that makes Islam as a formal state system. It has its perspective relate to the transgender phenomenon. Therefore, we have to contextualize this hadith understanding according to the Indonesian context, especially in dealing with transgender perpetrators.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the epistemology of Thomas S. Kuhn's concept of Shifting Paradigm (1922-1996), a postmodernist with its philosophical, physical, and historical expertise, and the relevance of his thinking in Islamic science. The research is a qualitative study using the epistemological point of view to analyze. Kuhns view on the Shifting Paradigm is analyzed based on the important points in the epistemology: the source and substance of knowledge; the instrument of knowledge; how to acquire knowledge; the theory of truth; and  the validation of the truth of knowledge. The study finds that, first, the source and substance of science is the history of science. Second, the instrument of knowledge is the paradigm of science. Third, knowledge is acquired from the shifting process from the pre paradigm, normal science, anomalies, crises, to a new paradigm. Fourth, normal science is the theory of the truth. Fifth, the anomaly becomes the validation of the truth. Kuhns thinking of the Shifting Paradigm is relevant to Islamic science because it can be used as a method to explain the transformation of Islamic science. This paper is vital in discussing the relevance of Kuhns thinking to Islamic science. Despite many significant numbers of text on Kuhn's thinking, researchers have not found a text that especially discusses on the epistemology of the Kuhns conception of Shifting Paradigme and point out its relevance to the transformation of Islamic science.

Abstract

 Artikel ini membahas tentang epistemologi konsep Islamisasi Ilmu yang digagas oleh Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas. Konsep ini adalah respons intelektual al-Attas terhadap peradaban Barat yang dianggap telah mengakibatkan kerusakan serius. Hal itu merupakan dampak negatif yang dihasilkan oleh ilmu yang dikembangkan oleh peradaban Barat, yang cenderung mengenyampingkan aspek metafisika dan spiritualitas dalam aktivitas ilmiah. Artikel ini berupaya mengidentifikasi unsur-unsur epistemologis dari konsep tersebut. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sumber pengetahuan adalah Tuhan, sehingga pengetahuan pada hakikatnya adalah penafsiran terhadap pengetahuan yang datang dari Tuhan. Instrumen dalam memperoleh pengetahuan adalah indra, akal sehat dan intuisi. Kebenaran tertinggi diperoleh oleh seseorang yang telah menjalani ketaatan dan pengabdian yang tulus terhadap Tuhan. Pengetahuan dikatakan benar jika terbebas dari keraguan, dan kebenaran tersebut akan terus diterima selama sesuai dengan worldview Islam.

Abstract

Dalam beberapa literatur, Nabi Ibrahim dianggap sebagai sosok penting peletak dasar monoteisme, sehingga dikenal sebagai Bapak Monoteisme. Hal ini, sebab hadirnya Nabi Ibrahim dengan syariat yang dibawanya di masa dia hidup dianggap menjadi penanda transisi peradaban profetik dari umat nabi-nabi sebelumnya yang terbelenggu oleh paham ketuhanan politeistis ke arah paham monoteistis.  Simpulan ini tentu tidak dapat dikatakan benar sepenuhnya, khususnya ketika dipandang dari persepektif Islam yang meyakini bahwa monoteisme bahkan telah ada sejak diturunkannya Adam sebagai manusia pertama. Penelitian yang tergolong penelitian kepustakaan (library research) ini, menggunakan metode deskriptif. Penelitian ini menghasilkan kesimpulan sebagai berikut. Pertama, bahwa setelah banjir besar yang menenggelamkan kaum Nuh yang kufur, peradaban manusia mengalami perkembangan yang pesat, seperti penyebaran umat manusia ke berbagai benua. Setelah penyebaran tersebut, dan generasi-generasi yang beriman sudah mulai terkikis, diutuslah Hud kepada kaum ‘Ad yang menjadi kaum pertama yang menyembah berhala dan menganut paham politeisme, begitupun pada kaum Tsamud yang kepada mereka Saleh diutus. Monoteisme baru kembali muncul pada masa Ibrahim yang ditandai dengan penyelidikan radikalnya terhadap konsep ketuhanan. Kedua, pada masa peradaban profetik Ibrahim, terjadi peristiwa-peristiwa penting yang kelak menjadi dasar bagi ritual-ritual ibadah dalam Islam yang dibawa oleh Nabi Muhammad.

Abstract

Dalam Islam, interaksi sosial dikenal sebagai mu‘amalah. Salah satu bentuknya adalah hutang-piutang dengan pengembalian hasil panen jagung sebagai pengganti hutang pupuk, yang memerlukan kejelasan hukum. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian lapangan dengan pendekatan sosial dan syar’i, menggunakan data primer dan sekunder dari praktek di Desa Sattoko, Kecamatan Mapilli, Kabupaten Polewali Mandar. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam Islam, tambahan dalam pengembalian hutang dibolehkan jika bukan menjadi persyaratan awal. Jika ada janji penambahan dari salah satu pihak, hal itu dikategorikan sebagai riba. Di Desa Sattoko, pengembalian hutang pupuk dengan hasil panen jagung tidak mensyaratkan penambahan apapun. Sistem ini tidak mengandung unsur paksaan dan justru mengedepankan tolong-menolong. Misalnya, jika terjadi gagal panen, pemberi hutang memberikan kelonggaran bagi pihak yang berhutang untuk membayar pada panen berikutnya tanpa ada kenaikan jumlah pupuk yang dipinjam. Ditinjau dari hukum Islam, hutang-piutang dengan sistem ini dibolehkan karena menguntungkan kedua belah pihak, tanpa adanya unsur paksaan, ketidakjelasan, atau tambahan yang tidak disepakati di awal.

Abstract

Deep reflection on the teachings and moral views in the Quran and Hadith has been done by many Islamic scholars and thinkers. From this reflective activity, they produce concepts of Islamic ethics with various typologies depending on the style of thinking. Fakhry through his research classified the typology of Islamic ethics in four categories: scriptural morality; theological ethics; philosophical ethics; and religious ethics, and established each of their exponents. However, the scope of his study is still limited to the Arab-Persian region and its figures who lived up to XIII century. This research seeks to go beyond that by focusing on Syekh Yusuf al-Makassari—a major Nusantara figure who lived in the XVII century—and determining the typology of his ethical thought. By utilising Fakhry’s view on the typology of Islamic ethics as the theoretical basis, the results of this study demonstrate that Syekh Yusuf’s ethical thinking belongs to the typology of religious ethics. This is because it contains various aspects that are the main components of religious ethics, namely aspects of the Quran and Hadith, theology, philosophy, and Sufism.

Abstract

Education in West Sulawesi faces significant challenges, particularly in access and quality, despite efforts to improve it. Prof. Dr. K.H. Sahabuddin emerged as an important figure in the development of Islamic education in this area, through the establishment of Al Assariah University of Mandar (UNASMAN). This research aims to explore the idea of Islamic education developed by K.H. Sahabuddin, as well as its impact on the people of West Sulawesi, focusing on the integration of religious values and modern education. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with educational figures, santri, and people involved in the educational institutions established by K.H. Sahabuddin. Document analysis was also conducted on related works and literature to understand his ideas and contributions. The results show that K.H. Sahabuddin succeeded in creating an educational approach that integrates spiritual and intellectual aspects, known as “rasa education.” This approach not only enriches spiritual understanding, but also enriches the students' understanding of spirituality. This approach not only enriched students' spiritual understanding, but also encouraged them to adopt a modern and critical mindset. His contribution to education has provided encouragement for the Mandarese people to pursue higher education and improve their quality of life.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the concept of communication in the Al-Qur'an, especially those contained in Q.S. An-Nahl verse 125, Q.S. An-Nisa verses 9 and 63, Q.S. Al-Ahzab verse 32, Q.S. Al-Isra verse 23, as well as Q.S. Thoha verse 44, and applying it to the management of Islamic education. The focus of the study is to explore Islamic communication principles that can be applied in building a harmonious, ethical and effective educational environment. The research method used is library research with a thematic interpretation approach. These verses are analyzed to identify Islamic communication values ​​such as wisdom, empathy, politeness and respect. The data collected comes from tafsir books, Islamic education literature, and other relevant research. The research results show that each verse makes an important contribution in forming communication strategies in Islamic education management. Q.S. An-Nahl verse 125 emphasizes a wise approach, polite dialogue and good advice, which are relevant in guiding students. Q.S. An-Nisa verses 9 and 63 emphasize empathy and gentleness in communication, which helps create harmonious relationships between educators, students and other stakeholders. Q.S. Al-Ahzab verse 32 teaches the importance of maintaining politeness in social interactions, especially between genders, which can be applied in communication ethics in educational environments. Q.S. Al-Isra verse 23 teaches respect in communication, especially towards authority figures such as teachers and parents. Meanwhile, Q.S. Thoha verse 44 emphasizes gentleness in conveying messages even in difficult situations, which is relevant in handling conflicts in educational institutions
