Abstract

Abstract

Some traditions have values to glue the community live together in peace. However, many people especially young generations forgot it. This study aims to describe the basic multicultural local wisdom of the Buton people. The design of the research is a descriptive study by using qualitative descriptive method analysis. The results of the study showed that some local wisdoms in oral tradition of kangkilo were the basis for the creation of multicultural attitudes and understanding in Butonese. The values teach the community to protect themselves from chastity, both religious holiness and social holiness. Thus, people who understand this tradition will be obedient in following the teachings of their religion, and socially they will avoid attitudes and words that hurt other people's hearts, prevent heinous and unjust, treacherous, destructive acts, otherwise the values in tradition invite people to do good.

Abstract

Despite the growing body of hate speech studies in Indonesia, existing research has predominantly concentrated on ethnic and religious domains, leaving its construction within institutional political arenas, such as university rector elections, largely underexplored. Addressing this gap, the present study examines how hate speech is discursively constructed in media coverage of the Rector Election at one University in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, drawing on reports published by FramingNewsTV.com and other national news outlets. Grounded in an integrative theoretical framework that combines Sociolinguistics with Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), this qualitative study analyzes hate speech across three analytical dimensions: textual features, discursive practices, and social practices. The findings demonstrate that hate speech in this context is predominantly constructed in covert forms. At the textual level, it operates through three main strategies: the use of sensational and negatively charged vocabulary, the deployment of war and theatrical metaphors, and the dramatization of legal registers to produce a “truth effect.” At the level of discursive practice, these strategies function to construct rigid in-group and out-group identities, intensifying polarization and constraining substantive public dialogue. At the level of social practice, hate speech emerges as an instrument of epistemic struggle, aimed at delegitimizing formal authorities and undermining symbolic power and individual agency. Theoretically, this study proposes the Critical Digital Sociolinguistics model as a contextualized framework for analyzing hate speech in digital political discourse in Indonesia. Practically, the findings highlight the need for enhanced media literacy and more nuanced regulatory guidelines capable of detecting covert and systemic forms of hate speech beyond explicit expressions

Abstract

The oral tradition of kaƃanti pengantar tidur (lullaby kaƃanti) is a cultural expression of the Wangi-Wangi community, functioning not only as a medium to lull children to sleep but also as a vehicle for transmitting life values. This study aims to explain the representation of agriculture in the oral tradition of kaƃanti lullabies in the Wangi-Wangi community, identify and analyze the metaphors used to describe aspects of agriculture, and interpret the cultural meaning of these metaphors within the context of the Wangi-Wangi community's cultural perspective. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and ethnolinguistic methods, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and textual analysis of kaƃanti songs. The findings reveal that kaƃanti contains various agricultural metaphors that reflect the worldview of an agrarian society, such as metaphors related to fertility, life cycles, productive age, and the value of hard work. Agricultural symbols are represented through depictions of the body, plants, and crops, emphasizing the deep connection between humans and nature. These results confirm that kaƃanti carries not only aesthetic value but also functions as a medium for social reflection and meaning-making in the local Wangi-Wangi culture. This study recommends preserving kaƃanti as a cultural heritage and a valuable source of education based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study examines the discursive strategies employed in Prabowo Subianto’s inaugural speech following his designation as the elected President of Indonesia in 2024. Using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) the study argues that the speech functions as a strategic instrument to construct political legitimacy and reconcile post-election polarization through a structured set of linguistic strategies. The primary data consist of the full transcript of the speech delivered at the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hall, analyzed through three dimensions of van Dijk’s model: textual structure, social cognition, and social context. The findings revealed; first, at the level of textual structure, the speech is constructed around macrostructures of reconciliation and inclusivity, realized through rhetorical strategies such as the neutralization of in-group/out-group polarity, the use of family metaphors, euphemism, and presuppositions that affirm electoral legitimacy. Second, at the level of social cognition, the discourse represents post-election collective mentalities—such as political fatigue and aspirations for unity—while advancing a nationalist-populist ideology characterized by anti-elitist and religious elements. Third, at the level of social context, the speech operates as a hegemonic strategy to consolidate power, achieved through the appreciation of state institutions, symbolic reconciliation with opposition groups, and the projection of populist policies focused on public welfare. This study proved that language plays an important role Indonesian political discourse by demonstrating how linguistic resources are mobilized for strategic political purposes within an electoral democratic context.

Abstract

Abstract

This interdisciplinary study examines how agricultural development policies are framed and legitimized through the digital discourse of regional leadership in Indonesia. By analyzing a corpus of speeches, policy documents, and digital communications from YouTube, official websites, and social media by Governor Andi Sumangerukka of Southeast Sulawesi, we employ Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to deconstruct the linguistic strategies, metaphors, and narratives used to promote agricultural agendas. Our analysis reveals three key findings: first, the construction of "modern" agriculture through techno-populist discourse that combines revolutionary metaphors with populist rhetoric, creating a sense of urgency while obscuring implementation complexities; second, the dichotomous identity assignment that positions farmers as either "progressive champions" or "traditional obstacles" to digital transformation; third, the legitimization of certain policy choices through crisis framing of food security and competitive disadvantage. An agricultural expert evaluation demonstrates significant misalignment between these discursive frames and on-the-ground realities in Southeast Sulawesi, particularly regarding technological accessibility, farmer capacity, and sustainable resource management. The study concludes that digital political discourse functions primarily as a legitimization tool rather than a participatory mechanism, potentially exacerbating social polarization in the agricultural community. These findings offer critical insights for developing more accountable and inclusive agricultural communication policies that bridge the gap between political narratives and farming realities
