Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of 40°C warm water and sodium hypochlorite solution (NaOCl) on the hatchability of KUB chickens through artificial hatchery. The NaOCl concentrations used in this study were 0.25% and 0.5%. The hatching eggs used are the production of KUB hens which are kept intensively in the UPBS Poultry Departmen, Assessment Institute for Agricultural Technology (AIAT) of North Sumatra. The research procedures applied in this study were collection of hatching eggs, fumigation of machines and equipment, setting of machines and hatching eggs, washing of eggs with cherry leaf extract and hatching of eggs for 21 days. During the hatching process, observations were made on the variables that had been determined. The observed variables were egg shape index, egg weight loss, shell temperature and hatchability. The method used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 300 replications. The results showed that the shape index of the eggs that hatched in this study was 76.71 - 77.38%, the P2 treatment experienced the most stable weight loss compared to other treatments. The conclusion in this study P2 (0.25% NaOCl) effective in the highest egg hatchability.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of adding mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) frass to cow manure media on the productivity of Lumbricus rubellus and the quality of the vermicompost. A completely randomized design was employed with six treatments (T0–T5), consisting of increasing proportions of frass: T0 (100% cow manure), T1 (95:5), T2 (90:10), T3 (85:15), T4 (80:20), and T5 (75:25). The T2 treatment yielded the highest earthworm biomass gain (4.95 g), cocoon production (87.94 cocoons), and media reduction (198.83 g), all statistically significant (p<0.05). Vermicompost from each treatment was assessed through a growth trial using Ipomoea reptans (water spinach) under eight media combinations (U0–U7): U0 (100% soil), U1 (soil + NPK), and U2–U7 (soil + vermicompost from T0–T5, respectively). Among these, U7 (incorporating vermicompost from T5) demonstrated the highest nutrient content (C-organic 41.51%, N 1.99%, P₂O₅ 1.99%, K₂O 1.47%) and significantly enhanced plant growth (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that moderate frass supplementation (10%) optimizes earthworm productivity, while higher inclusion levels (25%) improve vermicompost agronomic value. Thus, moderate frass addition is recommended to optimize vermicompost production and worm performance.

Abstract

Abstract

South Tugu Village has significant potential to develop a tourism village based on natural beauty and local wisdom. One of its emerging attractions is horse tourism, known as Kampung Koboy. However, sustainable development of this attraction requires a assessment of its potential and the formulation of development strategies. This study aimed to identify the development potential of horse tourism in Kampung Koboy, South Tugu Village, based on political, economic, sociocultural, technological, legal, and environmental aspects. Data were collected through interviews with 34 horse farmers and several community leaders involved in the Kampung Koboy community. The data were analyzed using PESTLE (Political, Economic, Sociocultural, Technological, Legal, and Environmental) and SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analyses. The results indicate that Kampung Koboy possesses strong potential for further tourism development. Improvements in technology adoption, human resource capacity, and supporting infrastructure are needed to enhance competitiveness and sustainability. Recommended strategies include organizing tourism activities that emphasize local wisdom, developing racehorse breeding programs, offering affordable private group riding packages, implementing training and certification programs for horse breeders, and encouraging community participation in developing distinctive Kampung Koboy products. These strategies are expected to strengthen tourism attractiveness and ensure long term sustainability in South Tugu Village.
