Abstract

All this time, the processing dairy manure into biogas energy to be used for cooking and lighting by households around the center of the dairy business have not been done. The purpose of this study was: (1) identify potential resources and public perception in the development of biogas in the dairy business centers, and (2) identify the potential of biogas energy to be derived from cow manure at a dairy business centers. Based on the calculation, the estimated number of biogas that can be produced each day in the dairy business centers amounted to 258.4 m3/day. Meanwhile public perception, farmer and non-farmer, tend to give a positive assessment of the processing of dairy waste into biogas and willing to use biogas as an energy source for cooking.

Abstract

Peatlands have specific characteristics with waterlogged conditions, fragile, and less fertile. The level of peatlands fertility dependent on depth peat and the distance from rivers. This study was aimed to evaluate nutrient adequacy and prevalence of worm infestations in the gastrointestinal tract of Bali cattle that maintained in different peatland categories. The research was conducted in Pulang Pisau District, Central Kalimantan. The site was determined by purposive sampling and divided into 3 categories peat swamp, shallow peat near the river, and shallow peat away from the river. The data were collected by survey method and laboratory analysis. The variables observed included forage quality, nutrient intake, the number of infected cows, and the number of eggs per gram of feces (EPG). The results showed that each category of peatland have different feed quality and nutrient adequacy (P<0.05). The nutrient intake in the peat swamps was relatively higher than that of other sites. In general, the nutrient adequacy of cattle raised in the peatlands area was still below the standard requirement. In all peatland categories, the occurring of Ca deficiency in the diet was pronounced. The highest prevalence of parasitic worms infection was found in cows raised in peat swamps. Bali cattle that maintained in different peatland categories generally showed different responses in nutrient adequacy and prevalence of parasitic worms infection. Abstract

Marine macroalgae become one of biomass resource to be converted into energy using anaerobic degradation. This process requires bacteria agent contained in cattle rumen or manure. Availability of residual Gracilaria verrucosa (rejected) on fishpond macroalgae cultivation support for biogas energy development. The aims of this research were analyzing biogas production from red macroalgae Gracilaria verrucosa and applying the gas to biogas lamp and stove. The method in this research was batch system, used 1500 L capacity digester with 1200 L working volume. Methane production average volume was 72 L/day during 31 days of observation. The trials were carried out to operate lamp and stove, biogas lamp require 1.80 L/min and biogas stoves require 6.00 L/min gas from digester. This research may be applied and developed when supported by availability of macroalgae biomass as the prime substrate.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membandingkan kualitas susu yang diambil dari susu kandang yang menggunakan pakaian hijauan klobot jagung, pakan hijau rumput lapangan dan campuran antara pakan hijauan klobot jagung dan pakan hijauan rumput lapang dengan standard kualitas susu sesuai dengan Standard Nasional Indonesia (SNI 01-3141-1998) di lokasi peternakan Kebon Pedes Bogor, dan mengevaluasi kandungan residu pestisida pada susu sapi. Penelitian ini menggunakan Sembilan sampel susu dengan tiga sampel berasal dari peternakan yang menggunakan pakan hijauan klobot jagung, 3 sampel dari peternakan yang menggunakan pakan hijauan rumput lapangan dan 3 sampel dari peternakan yang menggunakan pakan hijauan campuran keduanya, serta sampel pakan yang digunakan oleh para peternak di Kebon Pedes Bogor. Residu pestisida dalam susu merupakan peubah yang diamati dalam penelitian ini. Analisis statistic yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis deskriptif. Hasil peneltian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada residu pestisida yang terdapat pada susu yang dihasilkan dari pakan hijauan klobot jagung, pakan hijauan rumput lapangan dan campuran antara pakan hijauan klobot jagung dan pakan hijauan rumput lapang.Pesticide Residues Analysis in Milk from Dairy Cows Fed by Corn Husks from Organic Waste of Traditional MarketABSTRACT. The objective of this research was to compare the quality of milk taken from dairy cows fed by corn husks, grass and mix of corn husk and grass with standard of milk quality according Standard National Indonesia (SNI 01-3141 -1998) at Kebon Pedas Dairy ifarm Bogor, and to examine the content of pesticide residues in milk. Nine sample of milk, with three sample from dairy farm that used corn husks as roughages, three sample from dairy farm that use grass and three other from dairy farm that use mix of corn husks and grass were used in this research. Pesticide residues in milk were observed as research variable. Descriptive statistical analysis was used in this research. The result showed that negative result of pesticides residues of milk from dairy cows fed by corn husks, grass and mix of corn husks and grass.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah membandingkan kualitas susu sapi perah dengan pakan hijauan klobot jagung, pakan hijauan rumput lapangan dan kombinasi pakan hijauan klobot jagung dan hijauan rumput lapangan dengan standar kualitas susu sesuai Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI 01-3141-1998) di lokasi peternakan Kebon Pedes Bogor, serta untuk mebgetahui kandungan residu pestisida pada susu. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan sejak Juli sampai September 2008. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan Sembilan sampel susu, 3 sampel susu dari pakan hijauan klobot jagung, 3 sampel susu dari pakan hijauan lapangan dan 3 sampel gabungan. Peubah yang diamati adalah densitas susu, kandungan lemak bukan padat, kandungan protein susu, kandungan lemak susu, dan kandungan bahan kering dalam susu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas kimia susu dari pakan hijauan klobot jagung, pakan hijauan rumput lapangan, dan kombinasi keduanya masih sesuai dengan Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI 01-3141-1998).Physical and Chemical Quality Analysis of Milk from Dairy Cows Fed by Corn Husks from Organic Waste of Traditional MarketABSTRACT. Descriptive statistical analysis was used in this research. The results showed that chemical quality of milk from dairy cows fed by corn husks, grass and mix of corn husks and grass still met with the quality of milk according to Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI 01-3141-1998).

Abstract

Tenebrio molitor L is one of the alternative feed ingredients because it is rich in nutrients, namely protein, vitamins, minerals (calcium), energy, and fat. Tenebrio molitor L also contains 33.64±0.22% omega-3, so it is hoped that the eggs produced contain omega-3. In this study 300 Lohman Brown laying hens of 20-week-old were used. Completely randomized design (CRD) was applied in this study with 3 treatments and 10 replications, each replication contained 10 laying hens. Treatments were: P0= Feed containing 5% MBM, P1= Feed containing 2.5% MBM + 2.5% Tenebrio molitor L, and P2= Feed containing 5% Tenebrio molitor L. This research was conducted for 6 months. The variables observed were egg production, egg weight, egg shape index, shell weight, shell thickness, Haugh unit, yolk index, and omega-3. Treatment had no influence on egg physical quality but had a significant influence on egg weight. Treatment P0 prodeced the lowest egg weight that was 59.02±0.53 g. Treatment P2 had higher omega-3 contents than P0 and P1 that was 88±0.12 mg 100 g-1. It was concluded that Tenebrio molitor L could replace MBM up to 5% in laying hens feed, improve eggs quality, and omega-3 content in eggs.

Abstract

Feeding high concentrate diet, characterized with high starch and low fiber is applied to increase energy intake for an optimal production performance in ruminants. However, the prevalence of digestive disorder namely ruminal acidosis has been reported as drawback of this feeding strategy. This encourages farmers and nutritionist to supply adequate fiber in the diet to meet minimum dietary fiber requirement. However, feeding high forage diet is reported to give adverse effect on production performance, thus economic loss for farmers. Therefore, some sorts of artificial fiber utilizations have been introduced to reduce the risk of nutritional diseases as well as improving ruminant productivity. The utilization of rumen mechanical stimulator aims to maintain a healthy rumen function in ruminants fed with high concentrate diet. Objective of this article is to review recent development of rumen mechanical stimulators utilization, a pseudo fiber to substitute forage physical function in the rumen of ruminants. This review highlights the use of rumen mechanical stimulators in dairy cattle, beef cattle and sheep with particular attention in rumination time and rumen parameters. In conclusion, rumen mechanical stimulator is attributable to minimize metabolic problem associated with high concentrate feeding by providing mechanical stimulation on the rumen wall.

Abstract

The production of biogas from palm oil-mill effluent (POME) and activated sludge derived from fresh cow feces through a few stages of the reaction at a single digester inhibited the reaction of anaerobic fermentation. The development of the biogas production process using two stages digester can optimize the anaerobic fermentation reactions. The aims of this research was to know the fermentation time effect toward biogas production in two stage digester. The study was done in three stages, that are subtrate analysis, biogas production by using two stages digester, and data analysis. The study was done in three combinations of feedstock which were POME concentrations of 90, 80, and 70% and activated sludge concentrations of 10, 20, and 30%. A mixture of POME and activated sludge at 0.35 L/day for 40 days were fed into two stages digester. Combination POME of 90% and activated sludge of 10% was denoted 90LC:10LA, combination POME of 80% and activated sludge of 20% was denoted 80LC:20LA, and combination POME of 70% and activated sludge of 30% was denoted 70LC:30LA. The result showed the fermentation time gave significant effect toward biogás production in the second stage digester. All combinations showed the upward trend in the volume of biogás during fermentation. Combination 80LC:20LA showed the highest volume increases from 1st digester to 2nd digester, that was 121,29%. Fermentation time in 2nd digester for all combinations (90LC:10LA, 80LC:20LA, and 70LC:30LA) gave significant effects toward pH where pH increased for 40 days the fermentation time. The highest volume of biogas was reached when POME and activated sludge in combination 90LC:10LA. It was 11.35 L.ABSTRAKProduksi biogas dari limbah cair pabrik minyak kelapa sawit dan lumpur aktif yang berasal dari feses sapi segar melalui beberapa tahap reaksi pada satu digester menyebabkan terhambatnya reaksi fermentasi anaerobik. Pengembangan proses produksi biogas menggunakan digester dua tahap dapat mengoptimalkan reaksi fermentasi anaerobik. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pengaruh waktu fermentasi terhadap produksi gas dari perlakuan kombinasi substrat (limbah cair dan lumpur aktif) pada digester 2 tahap. Penelitian terdiri dari tiga tahap, yaitu 1) analisis subtrat, 2) proses produksi biogás menggunakan digester 2 tahap, dan 3) analisis data. Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga kombinasi bahan baku, yaitu POME sebesar 90, 80, dan 70 % dan lumpur aktif sebesar 10, 20, dan 30%. Kombinasi POME 90% dan lumpur aktif 10% dilambangkan 90LC:10LA, kombinasi POME 80% dan 20% lumpur aktif dilambangkan 80LC:20LA, dan kombinasi POME 70% dan 30% lumpur aktif dilambangkan 70LC:30LA. Bahan baku diumpankan ke dalam digester dua tahap dengan laju alir 0,35 L/hari selama 40 hari. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa waktu fermentasi memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap produksi biogas pada digester tahap II. Seluruh kombinasi memperlihatkan tren peningkatan volume biogás selama waktu fermentasi. Prosentase peningkatan volume biogas tertinggi antara digester I dan digester II sebesar 121,29 % terjadi pada kombinasi 80LC:20LA. Waktu fermentasi pada digester tahap II untuk kombinasi 90LC:10LA, 80LC:20LA, dan 70LC:30LA juga memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap nilai pH. Volume biogas tertinggi selama 40 hari waktu fermentasi didapatkan pada kombinasi 90LC:10LA, yaitu sebesar 11,35 liter.

Abstract
