Abstract

The main issue that is the focus of this study is what is the essence of the liturgy in the Catholic Church and how the Ars Celebrandi liturgy is in the perspective of Pope Benedict XVI. Therefore, this study wants to explore two important things, namely how a Catholic personally and communally understands the liturgy and how it was initiated by Pope Benedict through the theme of Ars Celebrandi. This research uses library research, which is supported by reference sources, especially Church documents and studies on the theme of liturgy and the Eucharist. Data and information are processed by researchers by sorting and examining the main ideas and classifying them in special themes according to the research objectives. This study found that Ars Celebrandi is the art of celebrating liturgical celebrations appropriately and can help the faithful to internalize all the mysteries of the faith that are celebrated in the liturgical celebration system so that in the end all the faithful can participate in the entire celebration of faith. Therefore, all liturgical leaders need to celebrate the liturgy according to the rules of the liturgy itself without having to improvise and be creative according to personal interpretation. Ars Celebrandi is closely related to the meaning of the mystery of faith, namely the encounter with God present in the liturgical celebration. Ars Celebrandi does not stop at the issue of how the liturgical celebration becomes a stunning display. However, Ars Celebrandi is more about the appreciation of the mystery of faith in oneness with God that is present in the liturgical celebration. This study is expected to add to the scientific treasures in the field of Catholic theology, especially those related to the meaning and significance of beauty in the liturgy of the Eucharist.

Abstract

Dalihan Natolu is the basic philosophy of life for the Toba Batak tribe which is contained in three elements, namely respect, veneration and support. This unity cannot be separated from the life of the Toba Batak tribe. Dalihan Natolu's kinship system, namely somba marhula-hula (respect to uncle's family), manat mardongan tubu (being careful to siblings), and elek marboru (graciousness to our sisters), is a communal foundation that is closely related to each other. Each component in Dalihan Natolu is implemented according to their respective positions and roles. The values that exist in Dalihan Natolu have a correlation with the Catholic faith, namely theological virtues (faith, hope, and love) and cardinal virtues (prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance).Theological and cardinal virtues are virtues that animate everyone to live Christian morals. Likewise, with the Dalihan Natolu values it can be understood that Christian morals are not just law implementation, but a response to God's call. Everyone's way and pattern of life must be adapted with the teachings of God. Thus, every person from any culture is able to reach the ultimate goal offered by God which is genuine happiness

Abstract

The writing of this thesis begins with the emergence of the author’s awarenes of the importance of understanding spirits of the Toba Batak culture in harmony with Catholic Theology. The meaning of spirit in Toba Batak culture is often understood both among the Toba Batak people and from other tribes, as a custom of idol worship. Chatolic Theology confirms that the spirit is a divine power that work in every creation, transport in all living things and is active in humans, specifically the Holy Spirit that is bestowed by God in every human being. The existence of the Holy Spirit in human being is a gift fom God himself to support human being to life. The religion and cultural customs are not two things that go in contradictory directions, but they are two features that strengthen each other. The culture is inherent in human existence from birt, and the religion is a way for human being to identify the faith in Jesus Christ himseft. A human being who is cultured and trough the help of the Holy Spirit will be able to experience oneness with God. Thus, the Religion and culture are two characteristics that lead human beings to the equal goal, namely human self-improvement.

Abstract

This study is based on the conviction that love for one’s homeland is an integral part of Christian faith, which must be lived out concretely in national and social life. The Catholic Church in Indonesia affirms that patriotism is not merely a moral or political attitude, but an expression of faith manifested through prayer, symbols, and songs within the celebration of the Eucharist. The purpose of this study is to explore how the value of love for the homeland is embodied and expressed liturgically as a contextual form of Catholic faith. This research employed a library research method by examining official Church documents as well as relevant theological and pastoral literature. The analysis was carried out through a descriptive-theological approach that integrates conceptual and contextual perspectives. The findings reveal that love for the homeland in the Eucharistic celebration is manifested through thanksgiving prayers for the nation, the inculturation of national symbols, and the use of patriotic hymns as expressions of faith and gratitude. The Eucharist serves as a sacred meeting point between faith and nationhood, forming believers to be faithful Catholics and true citizens. The study implies that liturgical inculturation plays a vital role as a medium of faith formation and national character building within the Indonesian Catholic Church.
