Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the impact of mangrove ecosystem degradation to the diversity of the catch in the affected coastal area of Pagimana District. Surveys were done from July 2019 to February 2020 to collect data with questionnaires. Data is analyzed by quantitative descriptive analysis and NASA Arset analysis (GIS). Results of the study show that: (1) extensive damage to the mangrove tend to fluctuate from year to year; (2) the extent of damage is small to cause significant impact on fish catch; (3) diversity of the catch is still relatively high and the state of the waters is still relatively good. Keywords: Mangrove; ecosystem; degradation; catch; diversity.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the highest number of fish catches based on the size of the hook in the operation of hand-line fishing gear and to determine the effect of differences in the size of the hook on the catch of hand-line fishermen in Molamahu Village, Paguat District, Pohuwato Regency. This research was carried out from June 2019 to January 2020. The method used in this research was experimental fishing. Observations were carried out 15 times, each trip was divided into 3 boats, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), data analysis using the data normality test (Liliefors test), homogeneity test using the barlet test, hypothesis testing (one way anova) and the BNT follow-up test ( Smallest Real Difference). The results of the research show that all types of fishermen's catches amounted to 9 families of coral fish, where fishing hook No. 17 obtained more catches (as many as 432 heads) compared to hook No. 10, No. 14 and No. 20. The results of the BNT test analysis show that, the comparison of the number of catches between hook No. 17 and No. 20; between no. 17 and no 14; between No. 17 and No. 10; between No. 20 and No. 14; between No. 20 and No. 10; and between no.14 and No. 10 are all at obvious different.

Abstract

This study aims to know the morphometrics and species composition of the shoal of Nike fish in Marisa Waters, Marisa Sub-districh, Pohuwato Regency. This study was conducted from Desember 2022 to March 2023. The samples obtained are all types of Nike fish caught by fishermen in Marisa Waters, as much as 220 ml. All samples are observed and grouped based on the melanophore pattern and then carried out the morphometric measurements using the Image-J application. The finding shows that Nike fish in Marisa Waters morphometrically has one distinguishing characteristic: PL (Preorbital Length). The result of analysis of the composition of Nike fish during the study period, from the highest to the lowest, are: S. longifilis (98.25%), B. segura (1.05%), S. parvei (0.38%), S. semoni (0.17%), B. belobranchus (0.10%), and S. cynocephalus (0.06%).

Abstract

The study aims to report the occurrence and to present photo-identification of killer whales (Orcinus orca) in the Gulf of Tomini. This article is an attempt to provide basic data for further research on cetacean in Indonesia. The study was conducted from February 2017 to February 2019 in waters along the coast of Gorontalo Province in the Gulf of Tomini. Recorded videos and photos were collected, and interviews were conducted with fishers and tour guides. Observations were made at coastal waters near the villages where the occurrence of killer whales has been reported. Focus group discussions were held in a number of places in the study area by utilizing local traditional ecological knowledge. Data were analyzed in a descriptive-qualitative approach. The date of occurrence is sorted chronologically at each location. Photographs or videos were captured for photo-identification. The results showed that the occurrence of killer whales are almost evenly distributed throughout the year regardless of the monsoons. Killer whales usually appear in pods of up to five individuals, with a few exceptions of solo appearances. The resulting photo-identification displays four individuals from four different pods.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of lambayang fishing gear using two different methods: the use of injectable lights and artificial bait in squid fishing activities in the waters of Tanjung Kramat Village, Gorontalo City. Data was collected during 20 fishing trips by 20 fishermen. The results showed that the use of injectable lights resulted in much higher catches, namely 90.68% of the total squid catch (4,865 heads), compared to 9.32% (500 heads) using artificial bait. These findings suggest that the injectable lamp is more effective due to the squid's phototaic response to light. Although artificial feeds can still be an alternative, their effectiveness is limited to certain environmental conditions. This research emphasizes the importance of fishing gear selection to improve catch efficiency and encourage sustainable fishing practices.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of wood used for making fishing boats and how to calculate the volume of wood needed for their manufacture in Olimoo'o Village and Kayubulan Village, Batudaa Pantai District, Gorontalo Regency. This study was conducted from March to September 2024 using a survey method. This study included measuring 50 boat samples, each sample divided into 25 boat samples in Kayubulan Village and 25 samples in Olimoo'o Village. The results showed that the types of wood used by boat craftsmen in making boats in Batudaa Pantai District, especially in the research location, namely Olimoo'o Village and Kayubulan Village, mostly used Nantu wood, namely from 50 sample boats, 17 boats used Nantu wood. Using Tindilo wood (5 boats), Wulu wood (7 boats), Wabo'o wood (6 boats), Binggile wood (5 boats), Talanggilala wood (5 boats), and Teak wood (5 boats). These seven types of wood are highly sought after by fishermen due to their high quality for boat construction. To estimate the wood requirements for boat construction, the plank volume and the length and diameter of the mahera were calculated using the plank volume coefficient (Cp), the mahera length coefficient (Cpm), and the mahera diameter coefficient (Cdm). The calculation results were Cp = 0.0525, Cpm = 0.9231, and Cdm = 0.7447.
