Abstract

This research is to find out how cultural hegemony that occur in manaqiban tradition in Desa Sari Kecamatan Gajak Kabupaten Demak that can affect the outside community by exercising powers that happened. Manaqiban tradition is a ritual performed by the society in which the people of Java and Madura as a tribute to something about it. Manaqiban tradition also conducted in Desa Sari with a time of implementation is on the eve of the sacred. This tradition was carried out as a form in order to honor the founder of the Desa Sari. Manaqiban tradition in the Desa Sari implemented in a tomb of the gentry named Mbah Djomo. This study used a qualitative approach and data sources of gatekeeper Mbah Djomo. The technique used is by collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation.

Abstract

The purpose of writing this article is to analyze the discourse of heroism ( kawiryan ) according to Sultan Hamengkubuwana VII contained in the Serat Saptstha manuscript. It is a type of historical manuscript that provides an overview about the discourse stored in the content of the manuscript. The Sultan discussed in this article is Hamengkubuwana VII. He is an Islamic Sultan who ruled the societies in 1877-1921. His reign is in Keraton Ngayogyakarta (Ngayogyakarta Palace) and it is a kind of Islamic Sultanate. Based on the conclusion of this study, Hamengkubuwana VII as the King sent by God performed an image as a very humble sultan. The legitimacy of his power promotes an understanding of Islamic Sultanate represented by Hamengkubuwana VII. The representation of peaceful and serene life portrayed by Hamengkubuwana VII makes the image of Hamengkubuwana VII to be an irreplaceable sultan and his personality also inspires the societies in terms of the importance to always remember The Creator or on the other word is God.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini menyajikan teks Serat Nitik Bayunan mulai dari kodikologi, transliterasi, suntingan teks dan terjemahan. Data yang diteliti adalah teks Serat Nitik Bayunan. Sumber data untuk penelitian ini merupakan naskah Serat Nitik Bayunan. Naskah ini merupakan naskah tunggal yang diperoleh di Perpustakaan Museum Radya Pustaka Surakarta dengan kode naskah SMP-RP 58 dan tebal 20 halaman. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode naskah tunggal edisi standar sedangkan terjemahan menggunakan terjemahan bebas. Penelitian ini menghasilkan edisi teks yang sahih menurut kajian filologis. Adapun di dalam penyajiannya menyertakan komentar, aparat kritik dan terjemahan dalam bentuk bahasa Indonesia. Teks Serat Nitik Bayunan menceritakan silsilah dari Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Pambayun yang merupakan putri dari Paku Buwana VII yang mempunyai nama kecil Gusti Sekar Kedhaton. Selain menceritakan silsilah keluarga inti (silsilah asal usul ayah dan ibunya) juga menceritakan tentang pantangan sang Adipati Warga Utama dari Banyumas yang melarang anak dan keturunannya untuk tidak melakukan empat hal, yakni tidak diperbolehkan memakan pindang banyak, tidak dibolehkan memakai bebed rejeng, tidak diperbolehkan duduk di sisi dipan  dan tidak diperbolehkan untuk melakukan pekerjaan ataupun berpergian di hari Sabtu Pahing. Pada saat naskah Serat Nitik Bayunan dibuat, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Pambayun berusia 89 tahun lebih 6 bulan 13 hari.  The purpose of this research is to present the text of the Nitik Bayunan Fiber from codicology, transliteration, text editing and translation. The data studied is the text of Bayunan Nitik Fiber. The data source for this research is the Nitik Bayunan Fiber text. This text is a single text obtained at the Radya Library of Surakarta Library with SMP-RP 58 script code and 20 pages thick. The method used is a standard edition single script method while the translation uses free translation. This study produced a valid edition of the text according to philological studies. The presentation includes comments, criticisms and translations in the form of Indonesian. Bayitik Nitik Fiber Text tells the story of Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Pambayun who is the daughter of Paku Buwana VII who has the first name Gusti Sekar Kedhaton. In addition to telling the genealogy of the nuclear family (genealogy of the father and mother) also tells about the taboos of the Duke of the Main Citizens from Banyumas which forbids children and their offspring from doing four things, namely not allowed to eat lots of rice, not allowed to use bebed rejeng, not allowed to sit on the side of the divan and not allowed to do work or travel on Saturdays Pahing. At the time the text of the Bayunan Nitik Fiber was made, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Pambayun was 89 years old over 6 months 13 days.

Abstract

The aim of this article is to construct a critique of Western neo-orientalism through the film medium.  Film is a product of popular culture.  After 9/11, the concept of neo-orientalism emerged in the West, especially in America, which considers everything that is not "Western" to be terrorists, and radicals.  To criticize the concept of neo-orientalism in “Ms.  Marvel” the researchers used the theory of identity from Stuart Hall and Homi Bhabha to get the concept of identity in this series. The concept of identity found is a construction of a critique symbol of Western neo-orientalism. The source of data in this research was a television miniseries entitled “Ms. Marvel” which live on Disney+.  The results of the analysis showed that there are Islamic symbols that appear in this series which are a construction of criticism of the concept of Western neo-orientalism. It can be implied from the result that "Ms.Marvel" is one of the examples of a construction of Neo-Orientalism criticism through the medium of Popular Culture.

Abstract

Pemalang is one of regencies in Central Java Province. This region has a historical story that owned in every village. One of them is occurred in Widuri. Widuri has a feature from its famous folklore’s among society in Pemalang. Widuri village, now became Widuri urban village, also has a beautiful coast as one of family tourist destination in Pemalang and its surroundings. Despite of all, Widuri had an interesting story which is reported by Dutch newspapers during the dcolonial period. This writing is an investigationabout local history during the colonial period using a historiographic approach. News report from Dutch Newspaper used as a primary source for the main reference in this research. Furthermore, social and anthropological approaches used to reveal the continuity from colonial period to the present. The result reveal that Widuri has been chosen by Eurpeans as location for recreation and carrying out various social activities.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the symbols in the tradition of Ruwat Banyu Panguripan in the integration of culture and religion in commemorating the Islamic New Year in Pemalang Regency. Banyu panguripan literally means water of life. This tradition reflects a harmonious combination of cultural values and community beliefs correlated with the Islam adhered to. The Ruwat Banyu Panguripan ruwat tradition exists in the Pulosari District, especially at the Manunggal Jati Utama College. This study uses a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive method in collecting data through observation, interviews, and literature related to the tradition of Ruwat Banyu Panguripan. This research shows that the tradition of Ruwat Banyu Panguripan in Pulosari is not exclusively organized by the Wong Gunung Festival but also by the Manunggal Jati Utama College, which was formerly a member of the Prabasari Padepokan. The Ruwat Banyu Panguripan tradition aims to deliver each individual's wishes to God. In the process of Ruwat Banyu Panguripan, water intake comes from four directions of the compass (the west, west, south, and north). For several months, verses of the Qur'an were chanted by members of the College until, at the time of this unification, the Prophet's prayer was recited. It shows that preserving local culture is integrated with the routine of the Muslim community, specifically reading the Qur'an and praying to the Prophet in a clean and holy state.
