Abstract

This study aims to develop the initial design of the BERKAH instructional model as a transformative pedagogical framework for implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesian primary schools. The BERKAH model an acronym for Critical Thinking (Berpikir Kritis), Empathy, Reflection, Collaboration, Adaptation, and Humanization, was conceptualized to meet the urgent need for a more holistic learning approach that integrates 21st-century competencies (6C) with humanistic and local values. Adopting a design and development research methodology based on the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), this study focuses on the first two stages: Define and Design. Data were collected through surveys and interviews involving elementary school teachers who have implemented the Merdeka Curriculum. The findings highlight that while teachers recognize the importance of cognitive development, they face challenges in embedding affective and moral dimensions explicitly within classroom practices. The BERKAH model offers a context-responsive, values-oriented pedagogical design that complements and extends existing approaches such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL), particularly by addressing their limitations in fostering empathy, reflection, and character formation. By aligning with the values of Profil Pelajar Pancasila, BERKAH as a meaningful instructional innovation for 21st-century learning

Abstract

This study aims to explore teachers’ competencies in addressing students’ learning needs within the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka and to identify essential competencies for supporting deep learning practices. The study employed a mixed-method approach with exploratory qualitative dominance. Data were collected through closed-ended questionnaires administered to 40 teachers, in-depth interviews with 5 teachers, and a literature review examining trends in the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka. The findings reveal that teachers positively perceive the flexibility offered by the curriculum; however, they still encounter difficulties in designing learning experiences that integrate mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning principles. The study identified six key competencies that need strengthening to support effective deep learning implementation: critical thinking, empathy, reflection, collaboration, adaptation, and humanization. These findings indicate that teachers require a more contextual, reflective, and value-based competency development approach. The study proposes the BERKAH framework as a conceptual model for strengthening teacher competencies in deep learning practices. The implications of this study highlight the importance of developing teacher professional training programs grounded in the BERKAH framework to enhance the quality of elementary education. Further research is recommended to validate and test the effectiveness of the framework in broader educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate a barcode-based digital attendance system to improve the efficiency and accuracy of student attendance management at Muhammadiyah University of Bogor Raya. This system is expected to address the problems encountered in the manual attendance process, which relies on one-by-one clicks in SIAKAD. The research method used was an experimental design with a quantitative approach, with data collection through questionnaires, interviews, and direct observation. The main findings of the study indicate that the barcode-based attendance system speeds up the attendance process, from 10-15 minutes using SIAKAD to just 2-3 minutes. Furthermore, 60% of lecturers reported improved attendance recording accuracy, and 80% of administrators felt the system reduced data processing time. This study also showed that the barcode-based system reduces reliance on paper, making it more environmentally friendly. Overall, these findings indicate that the barcode-based attendance system makes a significant contribution to improving administrative efficiency at the university. This research is expected to serve as a reference for the development of attendance systems at other universities with similar goals.
