Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dialectic between cultural da'wah and symbolic ontology in the transformation of the Bugis community's mappaleppe kaku tradition in Kajuara District, Bone Regency towards monotheistic awareness. This tradition of releasing vows contains theological problems in the form of ontological split-causality when Puang Nene' , offerings, and sacred spaces are interpreted as independent sources of power other than Allah SWT. This existential condition gives rise to tension between the preservation of local culture and the purity of faith. Using qualitative methods with a theological-anthropological approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then interpreted through theological hermeneutic analysis. The results show that the mappaleppe kaku tradition is a socio-religious construction that binds a sense of collective security through ancestral genealogical memory. Resistance to eliminative da'wah arises due to the strong emotional attachment of the community to this system of meaning, so that confrontational da'wah tends to fail to read the local symbolic structure. As a dialectical solution, this study formulates a mappalettu deceng da'wah model that works through five main stages: mapping religious awareness, stabilizing social relations, contextual theological clarification, reconstructing symbolic meaning, and institutionalizing tawhid awareness. This adaptive-transformative model transmutes the ontological status of material symbols—such as shifting the meaning of offerings from offerings of supernatural powers to horizontal alms ethics—so that the strengthening of tawhid goes hand in hand with the preservation of social cohesion. The novelty of this study lies in the formulation of the mappalettu deceng model as a theological-anthropological meaning management strategy. This model proves that the transformation of tawhid awareness in lived religion is more effective through re-anchoring local symbolic values to His absolute source rather than through frontal cultural elimination.

Abstract

Egypt has a crucial and strategic role in the expansion of Islam throughout the world. The existence of Al-Azhar University as a center for Islamic studies is indicative of this. This article seeks to identify some of Egypt's most renowned Islamic reformers. This research consists of a historical literature review. According to the findings of the study, the resurrection of the Islamic modernizing movement and thought in Egypt was prompted by an awareness of the nation's intervention and even tyranny. This circumstance brought the Egyptians into contact with the technologically superior Western civilization. The formation of the fundamentals of civilizational modernity substantially bolsters the Egyptians' ability to advance in the arena of Islamic civilization in particular and the world at large. The resurgence of the modernization movement and ideas in Egypt was sparked by the emergence of a new power led by the Turkish-born Muhammad Ali Pasha. In an effort to reform, Muhammad Ali Pasha organized the Egyptian political and government system, expanded the influence of unity, constructed the education system, and absorbed as much knowledge from the outside as possible in order to educate Egyptians to study abroad in order to improve the intellectual quality of Egypt. The Islamic modernization movement and thought in Egypt has exhibited remarkable progress with the emergence of new ideas and movements in a variety of disciplines. Not only were they significant in Egypt, but also in the rest of the globe, particularly Islam. Among his followers were Raf'i al-Thahtawi, Jamaluddin al-Afgani, Muhammad Abduh, and Rashid Rida. The figure's primary objective is to make Egypt better capable of sustaining and expanding Islamization in other regions of the world.

Abstract

The polarization of contemporary religious discourse between rigid formal-legalism and superficial esoteric spiritualism in the digital sphere has precipitated a crisis of authority and social fragmentation that extensively threatens the stability of the global Muslim community. Although extant literature has widely explored classical thought, a significant methodological lacuna remains concerning the transformation of the 17th-century Sufi-jurisprudential synthesis as a strategic antithesis to ideological radicalism and the attenuation of religious meaning within the current cyber ecosystem. This research undertakes a scholarly intervention through a Gadamerian hermeneutic approach to the authentic manuscripts of Sheikh Yusuf Al-Makassari to reconstruct a multidimensional da’wa framework that coherently integrates the levels of sharia, tariqa, haqiqa, and marifa as structures for social transformation. The analysis reveals that the integration of these exoteric and esoteric dimensions fosters a solution-oriented religious ethic, wherein the models of da’wa bil-hikmah and mau'idzah hasanah are reactualized as instruments to counteract hate narratives and reconstruct an integrative religious habitus. Theoretically and practically, this study contributes to the development of authentic digital da’wa models, the reinforcement of egalitarian religious authority, and the provision of discursive solutions to the fragmentation of the ummah through an approach that is contextually adaptive yet doctrinally grounded in the post-truth era.
