Abstract

Word problems solving involves the ability of translating and integrating word problem text. Many students get the difficulty in solving word problem due to their inability to translate and integrate word problem text into an exact representation. Representation is divided into two types namely, pictorial representation and schematic representation. This study aims at describing representation process employed by the 10th grade of High School students on word problem solving of inconsistent comparison. This research was done to 5 students and in this article have 3 subjects. The results of this study infine other representation. There are three mathematical representation of students in solving word problems comparison inconsistent: (1) pictorial representations, (2) schematic representation, and (3) pictorial-schematic representation.

Abstract

Abstract

Students often have difficulty in solving problems, this is due to lack of confidence and students' critical thinking skills are still low. Critical thinking skills are needed to make decisions in solving problems on problems. In order for students to make decisions, students must have confidence in practicing critical thinking skills. This study aims to describe students' critical thinking skills in solving story problems in junior high school students who have confidence. This research method is descriptive research with a qualitative approach, in the form of the results of the work of non-test students, written tests and in-depth interviews. This study included 2 subjects who had the ability to think critically with confidence. The results of this study show that students can meet all criteria such as (1) students are able to understand problems, write down problem information from known, namely Tini bought 2 pens and bought 1 writing book, while Aisyah bought more pens than Tini equivalent to the price of books, then what was asked was the price of 2 pens and 3 writing books, respectively, (2) students are able to analyze and create mathematical models, able to consider assumptions and determine the results of completion, namely solving mathematical models on the material of a system of two-variable linear equations (SPLDV). And (3) students are able to draw conclusions from the problem, namely being able to conclude from the results of the final solution correctly. So that students are able to understand, model and solve problems appropriately.

Abstract

Education is very important nowadays. Education plays an important role in improving human resources. Children are asked to be able to understand various sciences well, one of which is geometry in mathematics lessons. However, there are still many children who have difficulty getting a decent education, especially children with intellectual disabilities. This article aims to review effective learning methods for students with intellectual disabilities in understanding geometric material and being able to apply it in solving problems in real life contexts. One branch of mathematics that needs to be studied in depth is geometry. Since childhood, we have started to recognize objects that actually use geometric shapes. These objects are even simple objects that we often encounter around us. Apart from knowing the shapes and formulas in geometry, we are also expected to be able to apply geometry in everyday life. Students with intellectual disabilities are expected to have numerical abilities in solving geometry problems. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method by describing and analyzing data related to the discussion. Students with intellectual disabilities need learning media that can be more interactive and can increase understanding and creativity in thinking. By using artificial intelligence teachers can develop more effective learning media for students.

Abstract

The Metaphorical Thinking approach in learning mathematics algebra material in the Independent Curriculum provides students with a more meaningful experience of the understanding process because they can see, form and map mathematical concepts to experiential concepts to practice solving everyday life problems in Algebraic form. This research is a library research study supported by interviews at SMP Negeri 3 Sampit. The research was carried out by collecting data from various sources regarding the difficulties of Phase D (SMP) students in algebra material and the metaphorical thinking approach to see the achievement of meaningful understanding of mathematics. With the characteristics of Metaphorical Thinking, students can carry out mathematical problem-solving activities, especially algebraic mathematical problems, so as to find meaningful understanding. Then carry out data analysis using descriptive analysis to determine the effect of the metaphorical thinking approach on the daily life problem solving abilities of phase D students in algebra material.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the use of project-based learning with the help of Android smartphones in trigonometric ratio material in grade X SMAN 1 Kota Besi. This research method is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were tenth grade students SMAN 1 Kota Besi. Based on the results of reflections and interviews, it shows that the use of android aplication in project-based learning, namely (1) makes learning easier for students to understand and learning is more interactive because students experience it for themselves, (2) learning becomes more interesting because they use their gadgets for learning and practicum, and (3) students are more creative because they have to make reports and make presentations in front of the class. Thus the use of android aplication can support project-based learning on trigonometric ratio  material at SMAN 1 Kota Besi both inside and outside the classroom and outside of school.

Abstract

Problems in the reality of our lives require mathematics to be solved often using analogies in their solutions or also called metaphors. The condition of these problems requires students to develop abilities that emphasize the development of relationships between mathematical concepts and real phenomena in the surrounding environment. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with purposive sampling. The study was conducted at a public senior high school in Central Kalimantan during the 2024–2025 academic year, with 3 spatial students as subjects with Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic learning styles in class X room H. This study aims to determine the metaphorical thinking process of students when solving trigonometry word problems. By using metaphorical thinking skills, students' mathematical understanding process becomes more meaningful because they can see, form, and map mathematical concepts to real concepts according to experience.
