Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the perception of the Bajo people towards the construction of the Kendari -Toronipa tourist road in Bajo Indah and Leppe Village, Konawe Regency. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection through in-depth interviews and participatory observation. The results showed that the Bajo community has a complex view of the development. Although they see the potential economic benefits offered by the construction of tourist roads, they also have concerns about the possible social, cultural, and environmental impacts. In this context, the adoption of a balanced approach between development and cultural preservation is important. This research provides insight into the dynamics of community views in dealing with local development, as well as underlining the need to involve communities in sustainable development decision-making. This finding has important implications for development planning that takes into account cultural, social, and environmental aspects in coastal areas. Abstract

Indonesia is recognized as the second most biodiverse country in the world, possessing approximately 28,000 species of flowering plants, around 6,000 of which are classified as traditional medicinal plants. Amid the tide of globalization, traditional medicine continues to play a vital role in Indonesian society, even as modern medicine advances. The use of plants as medicine is deeply intertwined with local traditions, as exemplified by the Muna people, who possess indigenous knowledge in utilizing various medicinal plants. This study aims to identify the types of traditional medicinal plants, methods of preparation, and their use as alternative treatments for broader communities, employing a qualitative descriptive approach. The findings reveal eight types of medicinal plants employed by the Muna people in Anggoeya Village, one of which is guava leaves boiled to treat diarrhea. This research serves as a bridge between the Muna people's local wisdom in traditional healing practices and modern scientific knowledge, supporting the conservation of ethnobotanical knowledge while opening opportunities for the development of natural-based medicines.

Abstract

The traditional game of Engklek is a cultural heritage rich in educational, social, and cultural values that urgently needs to be preserved amidst the rapid disruption of digital technology. The increasing intensity of gadget use has caused this folk game to be increasingly alienated from the daily lives of the younger generation. Responding to this phenomenon, this community service activity was initiated with the main objective of reintroducing the existence of the Engklek game to Generation Z by optimizing the use of social media as a means of education while promoting the preservation of local culture. The traditional game of Engklek is one of the cultural heritages that has educational, social, and cultural values that need to be preserved. However, the development of digital technology and the increasing use of social media among Generation Z have caused traditional games to be increasingly less known and rarely played. This community service activity aims to reintroduce the traditional game of Engklek to Generation Z through the use of social media as a means of education and cultural preservation. The activity was carried out in Lorong Pelangi with 11 participants from Generation Z. The methods used included awareness, training, and mentoring through the delivery of materials regarding the history, rules of the game, benefits, and values of local wisdom contained in the Engklek game. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge, understanding, and interest in the traditional game of Engklek. The use of social media has proven effective in disseminating cultural information to the younger generation and supporting efforts to preserve traditional games as part of local cultural identity in the digital era.

Abstract

Ecological wisdom is an integral part of the life practices of the Bajo people, who have traditionally depended on marine ecosystems as their primary living space. This study aims to examine the forms of ecological wisdom of the Bajo, reflected in customary prohibitions, philosophical values, and local knowledge that regulate the relationship between humans and the marine environment. Customary prohibitions such as restrictions on fishing during certain periods, limits on the use of destructive fishing gear, and bans on taking marine life during breeding seasons function as social mechanisms to maintain ecosystem balance. The philosophical values of the Bajo people view the sea as a sacred living space with spiritual significance thus it must be respected and its sustainability preserved. This perspective shapes an ecological ethic that emphasizes the principle of harmony between humans and nature, as well as intergenerational responsibility. In addition, the local knowledge of the Bajo people regarding seasons, ocean currents, wind directions, and the behavior of marine organisms serves as a basis for determining fishing times and patterns of selective resource use. These practices demonstrate that the ecological wisdom of the Bajo people functions both as a system of cultural values and as an adaptive strategy for dealing with the dynamics of the marine environment. Thus, the ecological wisdom of the Bajo people plays an important role in supporting the sustainable conservation of coastal and marine environments.

Abstract

Waste management socialization is one form of implementing the Ecology course learning that aims to connect students' theoretical understanding with real practice in the community. This activity is carried out in response to increasing environmental problems due to the continuously growing volume of waste and the community's limited knowledge about sustainable management patterns. Through the socialization program, students apply ecological concepts such as material recycling, sustainability principles, the interrelationship of organisms with their environment, and the impact of human activities on ecosystems. The socialization is conducted using interactive lectures, group discussions, demonstrations of separating organic and inorganic waste, and simple compost-making practices. This participatory approach is designed so that the community not only understands the theory but is also able to practice it in daily life. The results of the activities show an increase in public knowledge and awareness about the importance of waste management from the source, including efforts to reduce single-use plastic, implement household waste sorting, and process organic waste into compost. In addition, these activities help build collective motivation to maintain environmental cleanliness, create healthier living spaces, and support the development of environmentally friendly behaviors. For students, these activities provide hands-on experience in applying ecological theory while enhancing communication, collaboration, and environmental analysis skills. Thus, waste management socialization not only contributes positively to the community but also strengthens the quality of ecological education as a relevant and practical science in addressing contemporary environmental issues.
