Abstract

Objective: This study was determining the skeletal, dental, and soft tissues changes is respons to camoflage Class III treatment. Methods: A male patient 14 years, 10 months with malocclusion of dental Class I and skelettal Class III, included crowding and crossbite anterior, overbite 3 mm, overjet -1,5 mm, maxillary midline shift to the right 2 mm and mandibular midline shift 1 mm. Treatment was extraction of maxillary and mandibular first premolar with standard edgewise appliance and retention of hawley retainer. After of treatment, correction of the crowding, crossbite anterior and midline, with dental relation class I, normal overbite and overjet is 2 mm.Results: This case is Angle’s class I malocclusion where sagittal interarch relationship is normal, it is preferable to extract in both the arches in order to maintain the interarch relationship, so was that extraction of the right first premolar of maxilla and mandibular. Conclusion: Careful management of the extraction space preserved normal lip support and facial profiles

Abstract

This study discusses the severity of malocclusion in children with special needs based on the period of mixed teeth and the pe-riod of permanent teeth, using the cross-sectional study method with descriptive observation design. Sample of children with spe-cial needs were taken by purposive sampling in SLB Negeri 1 Makassar. Data collection was carried out by clinical examination using the Occlusion Occlusion Feature Index (OFI). The results showed that the severity of malocclusion in the period of period as much as 59.2% and in the permanent tooth period as much as 40.8%. In children with special needs, it was found that the cate-gory of very needy in need of orthodontic treatment in autism disorder as much as 85.7%, followed by disability (66.7%), the clas-fication of visually impaired disorders obtained a percentage of not needing orthodontic care need orthodontic treatment as much as 46.7%. It is concluded that malocclusion is more suffered by children with special needs with the category of autism disorder.

Abstract

Investigating the role of oral myofunctional therapy for the treatment of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). A literature search was conducted to find randomised controlled trials conducted in humans. Oral myofunctional therapy was found to be effective for the treatment of TMD, both as a single therapy and in combination with other treatments. It was concluded that although the scientific evidence is still weak, oral myofunctional therapy appears to be effective for the treatment of TMD with a favourable cost-benefit and risk-benefit ratio.

Abstract

Cephalometric analysis plays an important role in planning corrective treatment and assessing changes that occur during orthodontic treatment. One of the most commonly used cephalometric analyses is the Steiner analysis, which is used to determine the anteroposterior position of the maxilla and mandible, particularly the SNA, SNB, and ANB angles. Longitudinal studies conducted between 1940 and 1960 serve as the commonly used standard of normality and function as the baseline for evaluation. However, the morphological variations between different ethnic groups and populations cannot be ignored and should be considered when determining cephalometric normalcy standards for various racial and ethnic groups. To address this issue, some researchers have attempted to define cephalometric values for different ethnic groups to provide a more comprehensive approach. This study compares the standard cephalometric values of Steiner analysis (SNA, SNB, ANB) across different ethnic groups. It was concluded that there are specific standard cephalometric values for each ethnic group, making them highly useful for diagnosis and developing treatment plans.

Abstract

This article reports on a study of the relationship between the level of public knowledge and fixed orthodontic treatment perform-formed by non-dentist operators. Subjects were patients who were undergoing orthodontic treatment with non-dentist operators. This study used an analytical observational research method with a cross-sectional research design using consecutive sampling on 96 people. The sample was given a questionnaire to obtain data, namely the knowledge of majority of respondents (52.1%) had a poor level of knowledge regarding fixed orthodontic treatment. Spearman correlation test showed correlation between de-pendent and independent variables with p-value=0.000 and correlation coefficient = -0.557. It is concluded that there is a rela-tionship between knowledge level and orthodontic treatment performed by non-dentist operators.

Abstract

Several sleep-related breathing disorders include sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), upper airway resistance syndrome, and obstructive sleep apnoea. Myofunctional therapy involves exercises designed to improve coordination, strength, and control of the orofacial muscles. This review was prepared in accordance with PRISMA and adapted to journal guidelines. This study shows that myofunctional therapy is an effective non-surgical approach to managing sleep-disordered breathing in children. Through orofacial muscle exercises, this therapy has the potential to reduce the severity of SDB symptoms and improve children's sleep quality. Myofunctional therapy not only helps to overcome airway obstruction caused by enlarged adenoids or tonsils, but also contributes to the improvement of overall orofacial function. It is concluded that a holistic approach to SDB management can provide better results than traditional methods such as the use of continuous positive airway pressure or surgical intervention.

Abstract

Bimaxillary protrusion is a malocclusion characterised by the proclination of the upper and lower incisors and an increase in lip inclination, resulting in a convex facial profile and aesthetic imbalance. This article discusses the role of temporary anchorage devices (TADs) as an alternative absolute anchorage in the orthodontic management of bimaxillary protrusion, particularly in severe cases. The study was conducted based on various scientific literature and relevant case reports compiled in accord-ance with PRISMA. The study shows that TADs are more effective than conventional anchorage devices such as headgear in maintaining molar stability and producing better skeletal, dental, and soft tissue changes. It is concluded that TADs are a modern solution in orthodontics that can address the challenge of anterior tooth retraction without losing posterior anchorage and be-come a new standard in the management of bimaxillary protrusion.
