Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of vegetation types in the Kembang Kuning Resort Area, Jeruk Manis Village, Sikur District, East Lombok Regency, based on the density of vegetation types. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative. The population in this study were all plant species in the Kembang Kuning Resort Area. Purposive sampling method was used to determine the location and grouping based on growth criteria to obtain data on species richness. A total of 3 research plot locations were determined, namely: plot A (top), plot B (middle), and plot C (bottom). The analysis was carried out descriptively quantitatively based on the Shannon-Wiener (H') species diversity index. The results obtained for plot A area are 19 species with an H' value of 1.117 in the medium category, for plot B area there are 17 species with an H' value of 2.001 in the medium category, and for plot C area 16 species are found with an H' value of 7,045 in the high category. The conclusions obtained are the tree-level diversity index in all areas of plot A, plot B, and plot C of 3.38 in the high category.

Abstract

Students of the Mandalika University of Education (UNDIKMA) each year propose a Student Creativity Program (PKM) proposal from various existing schemes. Students of the Faculty of Science, Technique, and Applied Science Mandalika University of Education each year win PKM grants. In 2021, students from the Department of Biology Education won a PKM-RE scheme, continuing in 2022, the same students won 1 incentive scheme, namely PKM-AI. However, so far the participation of Mandalika University of Education students in compiling PKM proposals is still relatively low, because there are no more than 5 teams proposing PKM each year. Therefore, the Department of Biology Education Lecturer team took the initiative to conduct training and assistance in preparing PKM proposals for 2023, with the hope that after this training and assistance, the PKM team proposing grants this year will experience an increase. The purpose of this service program is the preparation of PKM proposals from various PKM schemes offered by the Directorate General of Higher Education and Technology up to the submit stage. The results of these training and mentoring activities show an increase in student interest in proposing PKM. This is evidenced by the increasing number of submitted PKM proposals. Apart from that, the enthusiasm of the students to learn and read various kinds of articles was also seen as a reference for their respective proposals.

Abstract

Department of Biology Education, Mandalika University of Education plays an important role in preparing students to become competent professionals in understanding and explaining life phenomena. Microscope literacy is an important aspect in deeply understanding the structure and function of organisms that are not visible to the naked eye. This community service program aims to increase microscope literacy for biology education students. Through training activities, students are provided with in-depth knowledge about the use of microscopes, sample preparation techniques, and interpretation of microscopic observation results. The targets of this activity are students of the Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Mandalika University of Education. The methods used are: preparation, training and practical demonstrations, interactive discussions, and monitoring and follow-up. The results of this activity show an increase in students' understanding regarding the use of microscopes, as well as an increase in their skills in operating microscopes to observe microscopic structures. Apart from that, participation in this program also provides a strong motivation for students to explore the field of biology in more depth. The conclusion of this program is that students' microscope literacy has increased, which is marked by increased understanding and skills of biology education students regarding microscopes.
