Abstract

This study was motivated by the low critical thinking skills of Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 11 Mataram during biology lessons, evidenced by a lack of active participation and learning outcomes that failed to meet the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 75. This situation stemmed from instruction that remained teacher-centered and did not foster higher-order thinking skills. The study aimed to enhance students' critical thinking skills by implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model supported by Student Worksheets (LKPD) for the topic of the reproductive system. This research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) study conducted over two cycles each comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages involving 17 Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 11 Mataram. Data were collected using essay tests based on critical thinking indicators and observation sheets regarding the implementation of instruction. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods. The results showed that the students' average critical thinking score rose from 49 in Cycle I to 77 in Cycle II, while the percentage of learning mastery increased from 35.2% to 88.2%. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the implementation of the PBL model supported by LKPD can improve students' critical thinking skills in biology learning.

Abstract

This pre-experimental study, utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design, aimed to examine the validity and effectiveness of a Project-Based Learning (PjBL)-based Student Worksheet on the topic of environmental pollution regarding students' critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes. The study population comprised all students at SMAN 8 Mataram, with class X MIPA 1 selected as the sample using a non-random sampling technique. Data were collected using instruments consisting of a critical thinking essay test (6 items), a cognitive multiple-choice test (12 items), and expert validation sheets. Data analysis employed Aiken’s V index for validity and the N-Gain formula to measure competency improvement. The results indicated that all materials fell into the "highly valid" category, with average Aiken's V indices of 0.89 (teaching module), 0.76 (LKPD), 0.87 (critical thinking test), and 0.89 (cognitive test). The implementation of the PjBL-based LKPD proved sufficiently effective in enhancing student abilities, as evidenced by N-Gain scores of 0.57 for critical thinking skills (57.55% effectiveness) and 0.56 for cognitive learning outcomes (56.20% effectiveness). Integrating PjBL syntax into this LKPD effectively facilitated independent thinking and students' mastery of essential concepts.

Abstract

The background of this study is to utilize the school environment as a learning medium to implement innovative learning processes and shape students' character, that learning can be done anywhere and anytime as long as it follows the existing learning system references. The purpose of this study is to improve science process skills and student learning outcomes through a learning model of exploring the environment. The type of research used is Class Action Research (PTK). This research was carried out in class XD with a total of 30 students. Data analysis techniques use quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. The results of the research from cycle I to cycle II of students' science process skills in the observing aspect increased with the very good category, the classification aspect with the good category, the predictive aspect with the good category, the concluding aspect with the very good category, and the communication aspect with the very good category. The learning outcomes of students in the first cycle were obtained by 11 students who did not reach the KKM >70, and in the second cycle 4 people. Thus, it can be concluded that the Exploring the Environment (JAS) learning model can improve science process skills and student learning outcomes.
