Abstract

The research aimed to investigate the morphological changes and physical dynamics conditions of the Sa’dang River associated with river sand mining activities. The research is expected to benefit the efforts of the management of sand mining in this area and enrich knowledge about the issues of river sand mining. The study was conducted in Sa’dang River sand mining area, which includes villages of Pincara, Massewwae and Mangki of Pinrang District in South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. A field survey was conducted in October to December 2019 to see the condition of the river along with the mining activities that were taking place. Field data analysis was combined with google earth imagery data for 2006, 2014, 2017 and 2019 using ArcGIS 10.5 software to see changes in river morphology, formation and extent of point bar and channel bar, as well as changes in the area of river water bodies and non-water river bodies. The results showed that the changes in morphology and physical dynamics conditions of the Sa’dang River showed their own pattern. If sediment deposits forming point bars or channel bars were reduced, the area of river water bodies tended to increase. Or in other words, the width of the river is inversely proportional to the increase in the area of the river water body if the area of sediment deposits that form the point bar and channel bar tends to decrease.

Abstract

Sand is a material needed for various purposes such as construction materials and backfill materials so that the need for sand continues to increase. The economic potential in the form of increasing sand demand has triggered increased sand mining activities in the Sadang River in Pinrang Regency. The research took place between September and November 2019 which aimed to determine the economic potential and hydrological benefits of the Sadang River sand mining in Pinrang Regency. The research area covers three districts included in the Sadang River sand mining area of Pinrang Regency namely Patampanua, Duampanua and Cempa Districts. A field survey was conducted to find out the amount of production volume, production costs, mining and transportation activities. The results showed that the Sadang River sand mining has considerable economic potential. In addition to direct economic benefits, it also provides indirect economic benefits for the community around the mining area. If the river sand mining has been deemed damaging to the environment and disrupting the function of the river, then the passive river of Sadang River shows the opposite fact, namely that the Sadang River sand mining can help restore the hydrological function of the Sadang River to prevent siltation of the Sadang River due to sedimentation so as not to cause overflow and floods that can damage residents' settlements and agricultural land in three districts.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to obtain an overview of the condition of the Saddang River in order to manage the sand mining area, taking into account environmental, economic and socio-social aspects. Various studies show that river sand mining can provide direct and indirect economic benefits to local communities, as well as environmental damage to rivers. However, research on Saddang River sand mining is still very minimal. The data collection methods used consist of literature studies to collect various reading materials that support and support research, field surveys to obtain data directly from the field, presentation of question sheets (questionnaires) and interviews on issues that are in accordance with the research theme. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to examine stakeholders and local communities. Physical condition of the river body and replenishment rate using UPTD data for the Saddang Watershed. Management with an integrated approach includes economic, environmental and social-social aspects, by combining two different paradigm approaches, namely positivistic and constructivist, which is believed to be able to produce a sustainable management strategy for sand mining activities in the Saddang River, Pinrang Regency.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the social, economic, and environmental impact of Saddang River sand mining on local communities and the Pinrang district government. Primary data collection used field surveys to obtain supporting data on economic aspects consisting of production capacity, costs, selling price of sand at the miner level and market price at the consumer level, number of grains, and various other economic values such as indirect value and indirect use value. The primary data collection method uses a total sampling of 80 miners operating in the research area. Consumer data uses a field survey method with 8 hours of observation per day. Saddang River sand mining provides great socio-economic value and environmental impact, directly or indirectly. This significant socio-economic value and impact, if not accompanied by good management, can result in over-exploitation, which impacts the physical and ecological damage of the Saddang River. On the other hand, the high rate of sedimentation from upstream of the Saddang River results in shallowing, so sand mining activities help normalize the Saddang River. Therefore, to continue providing economic benefits and the Saddang River to avoid physical and ecological damage due to mining activities, sustainable management of Saddang River sand mining is needed.

Abstract

Waste is the result of human activities or natural processes. One of the largest sources of waste in urban areas is market waste which can cause public health problems and city aesthetics. The generation of market waste is quite large so that good management is needed so that market waste does not cause problems for city residents. The research method used is descriptive with an observational approach. Sampling was done by stratified random sampling, with a sample size of 230 traders. Data collection was carried out using an observation sheet in the form of a checklist. The results showed that out of 230 traders, 5.2% of traders had containers that met the requirements and 94.8% of traders were in the category of not meeting the requirements. Meanwhile, for storage, 18.7% met the requirements and 81.3% did not meet the requirements. For collection, 31.3% met the requirements and 68.7% did not meet the requirements, while for transportation, 91.7% met the requirements and 8.3% did not meet the requirements. Therefore, traders should replace damaged containers and related agencies should optimize waste management at the Pinrang Central Market
