Abstract

Many universities in Indonesia require their students to conduct research article writing and publish it in reputable journal. Although, writing a research article in English is challenging, however, students  must have an effective strategy to solve those challenges. In addition, the appearance of digital media might be very useful for students to conduct writing scientific research. This study aims to identify the challenges faced by four EFL postgraduate students while writing the research article and to explore the strategies and digital media used by them. An in-depth interview through narrative inquiry approach was employed to collect the data from the participants’ experiences. The findings of this study show that the participants find some challenges in writing a research article, there is the lack of language proficiency, the difficulty in finding the relevant respondents and references, and time management. However, it can be solved by strategies, such as, cognitive strategy, metacognitive strategy, social strategy, and affective strategy, and digital media used by them. This study might be used to provide additional information relating to the strategy and digital media to support research.

Abstract

The target of class is second grade students of Gunung Kaler 2 Junior High school in Tangerang Regency, the subjects of this study were conducted toward students of class VII A which contains of 32 students in the class. The purpose of this study was to enhance students' writing skill in argument throughbrainwriting. It is a qualitative research that using a classroom action research method. In this research consist 3 cycles, where each cycle consists of 4 steps namely planning, acting, observation, and reflecting. The data collected through observation, writing test, and interview. The result of the research showed that students’ writing skill in argument could enhance significantly after applied brainwriting to them. For KKM score is 75, it could seemed from the percentage in cycle one was 61. Then in cycle two percentage became 86, the percentage became 100% Based on the data collected that implementing braiinwriting could enhance students’ writing skill in argument. Because through brainwriting makes students could be understand deeply related text types accordance of the context use and students could create the text well. Based on the explanation above, it could be conclude that enhancing students’ writing in argumenttive through brainwriting was effective way in teaching learning process especially in learning writing in argument.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore the need analysis on English for Tourism Subject of English Student at Universitas Banten Jaya. This research was Descriptive Quantitatve research by using survey method. This research used Google Form as questionnaire to gain the data. The respondents of this research are English students at Universitas Banten Jaya. The result of this research was 67% which categorized as agree that English for Tourism Subject as additonal subject for students at Universitas Banten Jaya majoring English Education Study Program. The reasons were based on several beneficial aspect from studying English for Tourism such as Banten have many potencial aspect of tourism; EFT as interesting subject matter; The importance role of english for tourism in Banten; by learning EFT can bring students’ understanding and comprehension in cultural terms through interaction with tourists and local tourists improved, It develop students in a critical and theoretical understanding, English plays a vital role in the Indonesian tourism industry; and last, by studying EFT, it can create the spirit of entrepreneurship. In short, EFT recommended as additional subject matter in Banten generally, and especially for students in English Education Study Program, Universitas Banten Jaya.

Abstract

This research discusses the analysis of speech events that occurred in Deddy Corbuzier's Close the Door podcast entitled, "How come you pray on social media?! Blog! Since when does God read social media!!” In this episode, the resource person presented by Deddy is a quite well-known cleric, namely Ustadz Das'ad Latif. This research uses qualitative methods with this episode broadcast as research data. The theory used to analyze the data is the speech events theory, SPEAKING model, from Hymes (1980). The research results show that podcasts are included in speech events because they contain supporting elements of speech in the form of setting, participant, end, act sequence, key, instrumentalities, norms of interaction and interpretation and genre.
