Abstract

The Meureubo river has the potential to provide a livelihood for West Aceh district Community in the field of fisheries with various local species. This research aims to examine the economic status and conservation status of freshwater fish found in the Meureubo river. The sampling locations were determined using purposive Random Sampling which can represent the estuary, mid and upstream areas of the river as well as several tributaries. The research location points were divided inti nine stations based on differences in environmental tone. The research results show that in terms of economic status, Tor tambra is a fish that is listed as having economic value because this fish is in great demand and has a high selling price. Meanwhile, from a conservation perspective, 33 species of freshwater fish were recorded in the Meureubo river, whose status was then identified via the IUCN websit (www.IUCN.org), with 2 of them being Near threatend (NT), 5 species being data Deficient (DD), 6 species have Not Evaluated (NE) satus, and 20 species have least concern (LC) status.

Abstract

The bileh fish (Rasbora sp.) is one of the freshwater fish of economic value in West Aceh and Nagan Raya districts. Domestication efforts are being intensively carried out in a controlled environment so that bileh fish can be cultivated. Bileh fish require proper handling during seed transport as they are susceptible to stress and death during transport. One attempt to solve this problem is the addition of local plant essential oils in packaging media. This study aims to determine the effect of Cananga odorata plant essential oil added as an anaesthetic in the transport of bileh fish seeds on induction time, recovery and survival rate. The treatment in this research was the use of Cananga odorata flower essential oil at concentrations of 0.5 ppm (A), 1 ppm (B), 1.5 ppm (C) and 2 ppm (D). The test fish were observed and the time of induction, recovery and survival were calculated. The results showed that the essential oil of Cananga ordorata plant can be used as an anaesthetic agent in the transport of bileh fish seeds with the best concentration, namely 1 ppm (treatment B) with a survival rate after transport were 90.67% and after cultivation after transport were 81.33%. Fish reached induction time in less than 10 minutes except in treatment A (0.5 ppm) and fish recovery time in less than 8 minutes.

Abstract

Abstract

Bileh fish (Rasbora s.) is a freshwater species with high economic value and strong potential to be developed as an aquaculture commodity through domestication efforts to reduce exploitation pressure on wild populations. One of the key environmental factors influencing the success of domestication is rearing temperature, as it directly affects physiological processes and metabolic activity in fish. This study aimed to evaluate the growth response of bileh fish juveniles reared at different temperatures under controlled aquaculture conditions. The experiment was conducted at the Hatchery of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Teuku Umar University, from July to August 2025 for a period of 40 days. A Completely Randomized Design was applied with four temperature treatments, namely 20°C (P1), 24°C (P2), 28°C (P3), and 32°C (P4), each with three replications. The observed parameters included absolute weight gain, absolute length gain, relative growth rate, and water quality parameters (temperature and pH). The results demonstrated that rearing temperature had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the growth performance of bileh fish juveniles. Optimal growth was achieved at 24°C (P2), with an absolute weight gain of 0.45 g, an absolute length gain of 2.1 cm, and a relative growth rate of 1.13%. In contrast, the 32°C treatment resulted in the lowest growth performance and greater pH variability (6–8). Temperature plays a critical role in fish metabolism, where excessively high temperatures increase energy demands for maintaining homeostasis, thereby limiting energy allocation for growth. Therefore, a rearing temperature of 24°C is recommended as the optimal condition for the culture of bileh fish juveniles.
