Abstract

Abstract

Filariasis is an infectious disease caused by filarial worms if it is not fast, it will experience permanent disability, it occurs when a chronic condition occurs when the feet and hands become swollen, in that condition it is called elephantiasis (elephant leg). West Aceh Regency is one of the districts which has the highest number of filariasis cases, which continues to increase from 9 cases in 2015 to 15 cases in 2017. Many factors are suspected to be the cause of elephantiasis including knowledge, behavior, physical home environment, socialization of counseling to health workers. health literacy with the re-emergence of elephantiasis in West Aceh Regency in 2019. This study used a quantitative study to determine the risk of elephantiasis using Matched Case Control. The population of cases in this study were people who suffered from elephantiasis in the district of West Aceh. Given the population (N), namely patients with filariasis <100, the sample in this study was the total population using a ratio of 1: 3, so the number of samples in this study was 60 people consisting of 15 cases and 45 people as controls. The results showed that the disease re-emerged. Elephantiasis in West Aceh Regency in 2018 was related to health literacy (p = 0.003)

Abstract

Aceh local catfish (variant limbek) is one of the high-potential freshwater fish. It tastes better than sangkuriang catfish so the demand product is higher than supply. Economically, this fish is very potential if developed in aquaculture system, and domesticated. This study aimed to describe the initial stages of domestication of wild fish species through several methods such as (i) broodstocks collection; (ii) broodstocks selection; and (iii) experiment. It was an experimental-single-factor research with three treatments namely; A: no substrate pond; B: soil substrate pond; and C: soil substrate pond with pipe (shelter). The results of the analysis showed that the highest survival rate is in treatment C (a soil substrate pond with pipe) with the first and second sampling percentage of 88% and 68% respectively. The percentage of local catfish that reached the reproductive phase did not differ between the treatment (P>0.05) so the sheltered pond did not affect the reproductive of local catfish, and it was influenced by the quality and quantity of feed.Key words : Aquaculture, Substrate, Domestication

Abstract

Abstract

The bileh fish (Rasbora sp.) is one of the freshwater fish of economic value in West Aceh and Nagan Raya districts. Domestication efforts are being intensively carried out in a controlled environment so that bileh fish can be cultivated. Bileh fish require proper handling during seed transport as they are susceptible to stress and death during transport. One attempt to solve this problem is the addition of local plant essential oils in packaging media. This study aims to determine the effect of Cananga odorata plant essential oil added as an anaesthetic in the transport of bileh fish seeds on induction time, recovery and survival rate. The treatment in this research was the use of Cananga odorata flower essential oil at concentrations of 0.5 ppm (A), 1 ppm (B), 1.5 ppm (C) and 2 ppm (D). The test fish were observed and the time of induction, recovery and survival were calculated. The results showed that the essential oil of Cananga ordorata plant can be used as an anaesthetic agent in the transport of bileh fish seeds with the best concentration, namely 1 ppm (treatment B) with a survival rate after transport were 90.67% and after cultivation after transport were 81.33%. Fish reached induction time in less than 10 minutes except in treatment A (0.5 ppm) and fish recovery time in less than 8 minutes.

Abstract

The resources of blue swimming crab (BSC) (Portunus pelagicus) in Asahan Waters are caught by fishers, that have used gillnets, which is the main target and bycatch is used to meet benefit activities, then there are concerns about the inappropriate crab management. This study aims to determine a number of crab production, crab condition, main target and bycatch proportion and the crab fishing gear feasibility. The method used in this research is a descriptive survey method. The results showed that the catch of BSC was 434.25 kg (86%) as the main target and bycatch was 15 kg (14%) with a composition of 19 species. Total of BSC was 1081 with an average carapace width of 103.57 mm for males and 96.60 mm for females. Based on the Decree of Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries No.1 year 2015, it is assumed that the gillnet used by fishers is a not feasible catching category for the juvenile crab growth.

Abstract

Abstract

Anesthesia is an activity commonly performed in aquaculture to reduce stress on fish seeds during transportation or for other routine handling. Sodium bicarbonate is an anesthetic agent that has been used in aquaculture on several types of fish, but has not been tested on gouramy (Osphronemus gouramy, Lac.). This study aims to determine the effect of using sodium bicarbonate in anesthesia of gouramy seeds. This study was an experimental study using a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications for each treatment, namely treatment A (without adding sodium bicarbonate), B (5 g/L), C (10 g/L), D (15 g/L) and E (20 g/L). The results showed that sodium bicarbonate could be used as an anesthetic agent for gouramy seeds with the best dose in treatment E (20 g/L). In treatment E (20 g/L), the induction time for gouramy seeds was very sort, less than 3 minutes. Fast induction time could prevent stress on the fish due to anesthesia.

Abstract

Seurukan fish (Osteocilus sp.) is one of the freshwater fishery commodities that continues to be studied and developed, one of which is by increasing the digestibility of feed through the addition of supplements made from local ingredients such as coconut sprouts in commercial feed and getting the best dose for the growth of seurukan fish (Osteocilus sp.). This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments tested were the use of coconut kentos with doses: P0 (control), P1 (5%/kg), P2 (10%/kg feed) and P3 (15%/kg feed). The results of analysis of variance showed that giving coconut kentos to commercial feed had no significant effect (P>0.05) on growth in weight and length, feed conversion ratio, and survival rate of seurukan fish (Osteochilus sp.). The dose of coconut sprout addition was divided into P0 (control), P1 (5%/kg feed), P2 (10%/kg feed), and P3 (14%/kg feed). The results showed that the dose of P2 (10%/kg feed) resulted in absolute weight growth of 8.63 g, daily length growth rate of 1.18%, conversion ratio feed 2.68% and survival rate 100%.
