This study aims to observe differences in the Javanese dialect of Malangan and Mataraman and the factors that influence the phenomenon, as both dialects are spoken in the border region of Malang and Blitar. The method used in this research is qualitative, which is to provide a general description of a situation as clearly as possible without any treatment of the object under study. This research is a sociolinguistic study based on the language phenomenon that occurs in the community in the cultural border area of a language, especially regarding the form of dialect differences that occur. The results suggest that the differences lie in the description markers in Ngoko Javanese. Such phenomenon is observed based on various words spoken in various situations in both regions. In addition, despite the differences of the description markers between the two dialects, the meanings behind them are not significantly different. As for the factors that make the differences between the Malangan and Mataraman dialect spoken in the Malang and Blitar border areas, they are divided into four: speakers’ habits, self-identity, region/geography, and feeling of having a different dialect/language.

This reasearch discusses the structure of fukugoudoushi formation based on the word classes that form it and the meaning relationships arising from the combination of word classes that form the fukugoudoushi. Both problems are analyzed using the theory of Himeno in Nohejl (2016) and the theory of fukugoudoushi forming meaning relationships of Himeno in Hayashi (1993). The method used is narrative qualitative, which discusses the meaning of fukugoudoushi seen in the novel Suzume no Tojimari with narrative chronology. The result of this research found 57 data points for verb and verb pattern (V1+V2). In addition, there are 9 data points having a V1 relationship as the determinant of overall meaning, 32 data points having a V1 relationship followed by a V2, and 13 data points having a V2 relationship that can only be expressed in other words, 3 data points having a V1 and V2 meaning relationship when combined becomes difficult to analyze. Keywords: fukugoudoushi; morphology; novel; Suzume no Tojimari.

This study examines the impact of virtual immersion on foreign language acquisition among Indonesian university students. It specifically explores how learners utilize digital environments—including streaming platforms, social media, and language applications—to develop linguistic proficiency and intercultural competence, and investigates methods for integrating these informal practices into formal curricular structures. Grounded in theories of Second Language Acquisition (SLA), sociocultural theory, and task-based language teaching, the research employed a quantitative-descriptive design. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire administered to 164 multilingual undergraduates studying English, Japanese, French, Chinese, and Korean. Analysis using descriptive statistics and thematic coding revealed that participants actively engage with subtitled media, online communities, and language apps, reporting significant gains in vocabulary and grammatical recognition. However, development in productive skills, particularly oral proficiency, remained limited without scaffolded interaction and feedback. While students exhibited high motivation through self-directed content selection, they identified a critical need for institutional scaffolding, educator training, and technological support. These findings informed the development of a five-component Virtual Immersion Integration Framework, which synergizes authentic digital content, collaborative tasks, intercultural pedagogy, motivational design, and instructional support. This study contributes to the domain of technology-enhanced language learning by providing an evidence-based, scalable model to align informal digital immersion practices with formal higher education curricula in multilingual settings.
