Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain how Islamic banking's financial performance and macroeconomic conditions affect its profitability. The object of this study is Islamic banking in Indonesia from 2015 to 2024, in the form of Sharia Commercial Banks (BUS) and Sharia Business Units (UUS). The independent variables in this study are macroeconomics which is measured through financial ratios, namely inflation and the Rupiah exchange rate (exchange rate) and for financial performance is measured through financial ratios, namely Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Non-Performing Financing (NPF) and Operating Expenses of Operating Income (BOPO), while the dependent variable, namely profitability is measured through Return on Asset (ROA). The data used is monthly financial statement data for the last 10 years taken quarterly (per 3 months) starting from March 2015 to December 2024. The data was analyzed using multiple regression methods. The NPF and BOPO variables had a somewhat significant impact on ROA, according to the t-test results.  In the meantime, ROA was only marginally impacted by the factors of inflation, exchange rates, and FDR.  The F test findings demonstrated that all of the variables—inflation, exchange rate, FDR, NPF, and BOPO—had a substantial impact on ROA at the same time.

Abstract

The use of electronic wallets (e-wallets) is increasingly popular among Generation Z, known for their high-tech skills and strong propensity to adopt digital innovations in various aspects of daily life. E-wallets offer a fast, efficient, and practical means of financial transactions. However, it is important to evaluate their compliance with the principles of Maqashid Sharia, which include the protection of religion, life, intellect, descendants, and property. This study uses an interdisciplinary approach between Islamic Economics and Financial Technology (Fintech) to analyze the implementation and impact of e-wallet use among Generation Z in Indonesia. This approach allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of e-wallets not only economically, but also socially and spiritually, within the framework of Islamic values. The results show that the majority of Generation Z utilizes e-wallets due to their efficiency, ease of access, and transaction security, where encryption and double verification systems are considered capable of protecting user data and maintaining the hifz al-mal (protection of property). From a hifz al-din and hifz al-'aql perspective, e-wallet use is considered legally neutral as long as it is not used for transactions that conflict with Sharia principles, such as online gambling or the purchase of illicit goods. Research also found that awareness of Sharia and digital security aspects remains relatively low, necessitating more intensive Sharia financial education and literacy for Generation Z.

Abstract

Abstract

This research discusses the relevance of the thought of Muhammad Abduh, a reformist Islamic intellectual, to the policies and work programs of the Indonesian government. Muhammad Abduh is known as a figure who championed the reinterpretation of Sharia principles to respond to the challenges of modernity, focusing on social justice, waqf reform, Islamic financial systems, and education. His thinking provides an important foundation for the development of a modern Islamic economy that is inclusive and equitable. In the context of Indonesian government policy, the 2024-2029 work program that carries the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045 integrates the values of Sharia economics and social justice in line with Muhammad Abduh's ideas. Programs such as strengthening the Sharia economy, optimizing ZISWAF (zakat, infaq, sadaqah and waqf) funds, and alleviating extreme poverty reflect the practical implementation of Muhammad Abduh's ideas. The government also emphasizes economic transformation, halal industry development, increasing Sharia financial inclusion, and Islamic values-based education to strengthen global competitiveness. This study uses a descriptive-analytical method to evaluate the relationship between Muhammad Abduh's thought and public policy in Indonesia. The analysis shows that Muhammad Abduh's ideas are not only relevant in addressing national development challenges, but also provide concrete solutions in creating social justice, community empowerment, and strengthening the Sharia economic system. This research also offers practical recommendations on how Muhammad Abduh's Islamic economic principles can be applied more broadly to support sustainable and inclusive development in Indonesia.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aimed to analyze Amin Al-Khouli's ideas in distinguishing between the two schools of Balaghah: the literary school and the logical school. Design/Methods/Approach: The research employs a qualitative approach, focusing on several key methods of analysis. Content analysis was conducted, examining both primary and secondary texts. The primary texts include Amin Al-Khouli's writings and publications on Balaghah. The main method of data collection for this research is document analysis, which involves collecting and analyzing a wide range of texts authored by Amin Al-Khouli, including his books "Methods of Renewal" and "The Art of Saying." Findings: The research revealed that Amin Al-Khouli described the literary school of Balaghah as emphasizing the internal meanings of texts, the beauty of style, and literary taste. Key scholars of this school include Abdullah Ibn Al-Mu'taz, Qudamah Ibn Jaafar, and Abdul Qaher Al-Jurjani. In contrast, the logical school focuses on the verbal aspects of rhetoric, such as topic division and term development, with less emphasis on literary taste or internal meanings. Prominent scholars of this school are Abu Ya'qub al-Sakaki, al-Qazwini, and al-Taftazani. Research Implications: This study contributes to the understanding of the development of Balaghah ideas among advanced scholars of the past and highlights Amin Al-Khouli's efforts in bridging the literary and logical schools of Balaghah.

Abstract

The hijrah phenomenon a contemporary Islamic revivalist movement signifying a personal and communal turn toward more devout Muslim practice has emerged as one of the most salient socioreligious dynamics shaping the identity landscape of Indonesian Muslim millennials in the post-Suharto era. This article examines how hijrah functions not merely as a spiritual transformation but as a complex social identity marker that intersects with digital media consumption, peer-group dynamics, market forces, and broader socio-political configurations in contemporary Indonesia. Drawing on an integrative review of empirical studies published between 2019 and , this article synthesises findings from multiple urban and semi-urban contexts across the archipelago, including Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Medan, Aceh, and Lombok. Theoretically anchored in Social Identity Theory (Tajfel & Turner), the sociology of religion (Giddens’ reflexive modernity), and the concept of “popular piety,” the article argues that hijrah constitutes a multi-layered identity project in which millennials negotiate selfhood between religious authenticity, digital performativity, and consumer culture. The article further explores how Islamic influencers, da’wah communities, and social media ecosystems serve as key agents in the production and circulation of hijrah as a social identity. It concludes by reflecting on the tensions inherent in the commercialisation of hijrah, the risk of superficial religiosity, and the potential of the movement to serve as a vehicle for genuine moral and civic transformation.
