Abstract

The low student learning outcomes in Integrated Science subjects are due to several things such as learning activities that are still teacher-oriented so that students are less actively involved in the learning process. This study aims to see the effect of the Discovery Learning model using simple teaching aids on student learning outcomes in Merangin 10 State Junior High School. This type of research is Quasy Experiment with research design Posttest Only Control Group Design. The population used in this study were students of class VIII SMP Negeri 10 Merangin. The research sample was taken by using simple random sampling technique. The instrument used for learning outcomes is an objective test that has previously been tested. Based on the results of research and data processing t-test analysis at the 5% significance level, it was obtained t count> t table, namely 5.27> 2.06, meaning H_1 was accepted. Based on the Effect size test, the d_s was obtained at 1.98. These results indicate that the learning model of Discovery Learning with the help of simple teaching aids has a major influence on student learning outcomes in Integrated Science subjects at Merangin 10 State Junior High School.

Abstract

In the rapidly evolving digital era, the need for digital integration in teacher learning is becoming increasingly urgent. Teachers are no longer the primary source of knowledge, but rather managers and sophisticated instructors in the use of technology such as wordwalls in a more effective, efficient, and interactive learning process. Wordwall training is an alternative in efforts to improve the quality of teacher learning, especially in Jambi City. This Wordwall training was conducted at SDN 205/IV Jambi City, which had 53 teachers. Based on teacher experience data, the results obtained were a satisfaction level increase of 40% of participants feeling "very satisfied" from the previous 33% to 62% answering "very satisfied." Furthermore, 27% of respondents answered "satisfied", the remaining 10% of respondents answered "neutral", and 1% of respondents answered "less satisfied". After participating in this training, we saw an improvement. In addition, teachers who were very enthusiastic about participating in their activities became more courageous in carefully integrating various digital tools into lesson plans. This activity is useful in supporting teacher creativity in digital learning, improving teacher pedagogical competence, and producing a wordwall media bank system that can be used sustainably.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to develop a non-test instrument to measure lecturers’ understanding and perceptions of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) approach and its implementation in Islamic studies courses at State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Negeri/ PTKIN). Design/methods/approach – This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method, specifically using a development and validation approach. The instrument development process involved expert validation, reliability testing, and field trials. Findings – The study produced a non-test instrument designed to measure lecturers’ perceptions and understanding of the STEM approach and its application in Islamic studies courses at PTKIN. The instrument successfully passed expert validation stages, including content and face validity. It achieved a very high validity level of 97% in accordance with the standards set by the National Education Standards Board (BSNP). Reliability testing using Cronbach’s Alpha indicated acceptable internal consistency, although categorized as low, with coefficients of 0.639 for the material aspect, 0.598 for constructiveness, and 0.569 for the language aspect. These results indicate that the instrument is suitable for use. Field trial results revealed that the majority of lecturers were familiar with the STEM approach (65% or 15 lecturers) and understood its urgency in integrating interdisciplinary knowledge into Islamic studies courses (56% or 13 lecturers). Research implications/limitations – The developed instrument is a valid and reliable tool for assessing lecturers’ understanding and perceptions of the STEM approach. The findings indicate the need for further training, increased resources, and improved infrastructure to support the effective integration of STEM into Islamic studies courses at PTKIN. Originality/value – Research on the development of non-test instruments related to STEM is still very limited in PTKIN contexts. This study provides an initial contribution, with future research directed toward developing STEM–Islamic learning tools.
