Abstract

Examining recorded lectures’ effectiveness to teach grammar in the context of flipped classroom model has not been widely research. Furthermore, this type of teaching has not been frequently used in the research area which applies English for Specific Purpose (ESP) materials that require special treatment in teaching grammar. This study, therefore, aims to uncover the unknown research findings by implementing quasi experimental research by involving two classes in Mechanical Engineering department. Both classes were given pre-test before treatment to ensure the similarity of initial grammar skills and post-test after treatment to know the impact of recorded lectures in flipped classroom model for students in experimental group. Data gained through independent t-test from SPSS indicated that there was a significant impact of the treatment on students’ mastery in grammar proven by the significant value of 0.05 (above 0.05) As this type of teaching has been proven to be effective for teaching grammar especially in the context of ESP, lecturers who teach in the same setting are suggested implement recoded lecturers.

Abstract

Accurate pronunciation is fundamental to effective communication. Meanwhile, many EFL learners struggle due to limited exposure and first language interference. This study investigates the effectiveness of two AI-based applications ElsaSpeak and ElevenLabs in improving English pronunciation accuracy among Indonesian vocational students. Employing a comparative descriptive method, 20 first-semester students were divided into two groups based on equal pre-test scores. Each group received three pronunciation practice sessions using one of the tools. Post-test results showed significant improvement in both groups, with ElsaSpeak yielding slightly higher gains due to its real-time, phoneme-level feedback. Learner responses confirmed positive experiences with both tools, although ElsaSpeak was preferred for its interactive features. These findings suggest that AI-assisted pronunciation tools can serve as effective supplements to traditional instruction by offering individualized, flexible learning. The study highlights the value of integrating such technologies into EFL pedagogy to enhance pronunciation development and promote learner autonomy.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of acetone addition to pertalite fuel on exhaust emissions and engine performance in a 150 cc four-stroke Otto engine. Acetone was blended at 1%, 3%, and 5% concentrations and tested using a dynamometer and gas analyzer. Results showed that 3% and 5% acetone mixtures significantly improved engine power and torque, with peak output at 9000 RPM. Emission analysis revealed reduced HC levels and increased CO₂, indicating more complete combustion. However, increased CO at 5% suggests a fuel-rich mixture. The 3% blend was considered the most balanced in enhancing performance while controlling emissions. This study highlights acetone's potential as an efficient and eco-friendly fuel additive.

Abstract

Based on data from the East Java Central Statistics Agency (BPS), coconut production in East Java province in 2022 was recorded at 231,934 tonnes. This data shows that East Java is one of the coconut production centres in Indonesia, which reached a national production of 2.87 million tonnes in the same year. However, the obstacles often faced by MSMEs are the limitations of the equipment and technology used in printing, drying and marketing briquettes. Most of the equipment and technology available today is still manual and unable to optimally meet production needs. One such MSME is Briket ‘Batu Bara’, located in Babadan Hamlet, Ngebrak Village, Gampengrejo Sub-district, Kediri Regency. With the available TTG briquette moulding machines and drying ovens, it is hoped that the production process can be accelerated and production output increased. The method used is the provision of tools/machines as well as assistance in the use of machines and digital marketing training for partners. The tangible results of this community service activity include an increase in productivity. Previously, manual production involved two stages, with the printing process followed by oven drying, taking 120 minutes per kilogram and yielding 40 kilograms of product per day. Now, the process takes 10 minutes less per kilogram, while product yield has increased to 40 kilograms per day. The predicted average profit increase is approximately 39.21%, while the average increase in rupiah is 1.034 million rupiah. Thus, the data for July 2025 and September 2025 shows a significant increase of 46.87%. This increase is attributed to the optimal utilisation of the machine developed through the PKM project, coupled with enhanced marketing efforts using digital marketing platforms such as ‘Shopee’.
