Abstract

his community service activity was carried out in Sukajaya Village, Pulau Besar District, Bangka Selatan Regency on August 15, 2025, aiming to enhance the capacity of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to level up through strengthening business legality and marketing strategies. The main problems faced by local MSMEs are the lack of understanding regarding the importance of Business Identification Numbers (NIB), limited awareness of trademark protection, and insufficient knowledge of modern marketing strategies. The activity was implemented using a participatory approach through counseling, group discussions, and hands-on practices, including NIB registration, introduction to trademark protection procedures, and digital marketing training. The results show an increased understanding and awareness among MSME actors regarding the importance of business legality for accessing financing and cooperation, better legal awareness of trademark protection as a product identity, and basic skills in utilizing social media and digital platforms as marketing tools. These outcomes demonstrate that the activity significantly contributes to strengthening MSME capacity in Sukajaya Village to become more competitive and contribute to local economic development.

Abstract

The hospitality industry demands high-performance employees amidst operational dynamics and continuous service pressures. This study aims to analyze the influence of work-life balance, internal communication, and empowerment on employee performance, with employee engagement as an intervening variable, in a star-rated hotel in Pangkalpinang. A quantitative approach was used using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method. Data were collected from 120 star-rated hotel employees selected through purposive sampling with a minimum tenure of one year. The results show that internal communication and empowerment have a positive and significant effect on employee engagement, while work-life balance has no significant effect on employee engagement. However, work-life balance has a significant direct effect on employee performance. In addition, employee engagement mediates the effect of internal communication and empowerment on employee performance, but does not mediate the effect of work-life balance. These findings confirm that in the hospitality context, relational and psychological factors of the organization are more effective in improving performance than work-life balance alone.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the financial behavior of middle-class urban families in Indonesia. This study use Behavioral Household Finance framework and integrated it with Theory of Planned Behavior. Despite the increaseing of financial literacy, many households have poor financial behaviors. Using a qualitative approach, the research gets insights from in-depth interviews with nine families selected through purposive sampling. Participants were middle-income family living in urban areas with school-aged children. Thematic analysis revealed that financial behavior is shaped by cognitive biases, social norms, perceived behavioral control, and financial literacy. Limited financial knowledge and negative perceptions of formal financial institutions also hindered their ability to improve their financial behavior which represented in their financial outcome. On the other hand, families with higher financial literacy demonstrated better control over their finances, proactive saving strategies, and more resilience against behavioral biases and social pressure. These findings highlight that enhancing financial literacy alone is insufficient without addressing the psychological and cultural factors that influence financial decision-making. This study offers implications for the design of financial education and policy interventions that go beyond technical knowledge and incorporate behavioral insights aligned with local cultural values.
