Abstract

The grand theory of makiyyah and madaniyyah according to classical scholars is seen from three aspects, namely time, place, and object of the speaker. However, Husein Muhammad perspektive makiyyah and madaniyyah from the aspect of time only. This view stems from Husayn's definition of the Qur'an as a guide that will always be relevant to human life. Through the Makiyyah and Madnaiyyah theories, he shows an interpretation that is not gender biased but has implications for the 'Ulumul Qur’an theory. This problem raises two questions about the concept of makiyyah and madaniyyah according to Husein Muhammad, and what are the implications of his views on the 'ulumul Qur'an. The results of this study indicate that Husein Muhammad has the view that makiyyah and madaniyyah are influenced by the social reality of Arab society. The Makiyyah verses show a universal meaning while the madaniyyah verses show a partikular meaning so that it has implications for the 'ulumul Qur'an aspect, namely the mansukh, muhkam, and mutasyabih texts.

Abstract

The Quran recitation training using the 5T method for supervisors at the Baitul Quran Islamic Boarding School was motivated by the main issue of the low variety of methods used by students to understand Quranic verses, considering the challenges of the digital era that demand religious guidance based on structured, adaptive, and relevant methods. The objective of this activity is to equip supervisors with the skills to apply the 5T method (Tamhid, Tilawah, Tafsir, Tadabbur, and Tazkiyah) so that they can enhance the quality of students' Quran recitation in a more systematic and comprehensive manner. The research methodology was conducted in three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The training results showed that musyrif experienced an improvement in their skills in understanding and practicing Quran recitation using the 5T method. Additionally, participants were able to integrate the aspects of recitation with the application of the meanings of Quranic verses, although further follow-up in the form of continued mentoring and the utilization of digital media is still needed to optimize the implementation of the 5T method.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: This study aims to examine the position of hikayat signs in Tafsir Al-Ibriz by Biṣri Musṫofa, a Nusantara mufassir known for his communicative and narrative approach in conveying the message of the Qur'an. The background of this research is based on the need to understand how hikayat, which are often considered mere folk tales or additional elements, actually play an important role in grounding the messages of the Qur'an to the general public. Method: This research uses a descriptive analysis method with a semiotic approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through a literature study of the Tafsir Al-Ibriz manuscript and the reference sources used, including classical tafsir such as Tafsir Al-Khazin. Main Results: The signs of hikayat in Tafsir Al-Ibriz do not merely serve as complementary stories, but as semiotic devices that connect the denotative aspects of the Qur'anic text with the connotative aspects of Javanese culture through the mechanism of myth as a second level of meaning, while also reconstructing classical sources such as Tafsir Al-Khazin in the local context of the archipelago. Contributions: This study contributes to enriching the study of Nusantara interpretation by revealing the strategic role of hikayat as a semiotic sign that reinforces the delivery of moral messages and contextualization of the Qur'an in Tafsir Al-Ibriz by KH. Biṣri Musṫafa. Conclusions: This study concludes that the use of hikayat signs in Tafsir Al-Ibriz is an effective semiotic strategy for grounding the message of the Qur'an through the integration of revelatory texts, classical exegetical traditions, and Javanese cultural symbols, thereby enriching the contextual and culturally sensitive hermeneutic tradition of the archipelago.

Abstract

This study investigates the digitization of the Hizib Nahdlatul Wathan recitation tradition among the Nahdlatul Wathan community in Lombok, Indonesia, within the framework of Living Qur’an studies. The Hizib Nahdlatul Wathan—a compilation of prayers, Qur’anic verses, and dhikr authored by TGKH Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid—serves as a vital spiritual practice, a symbol of religious identity, and an instrument of organizational solidarity. Amidst technological advancements and challenges such as geographical barriers and the COVID-19 pandemic, the tradition has transitioned to digital platforms, including mobile applications, e-books, flipbooks, and online audio recitations. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive methodology that involves observation, interviews, and documentation, the research demonstrates that digitization significantly enhances accessibility, temporal flexibility, and intergenerational continuity, particularly engaging younger, technology-oriented generations while maintaining spiritual intent and authenticity. Community responses are predominantly positive, praising the enhanced convenience and interactive features. However, concerns persist regarding the diminished solemnity, reduced communal interaction, and potential over-reliance on technology compared to traditional congregational readings. Framed by the Living Qur’an perspective, digitization emerges as a revitalizing force rather than a degrading one, enabling sacred texts to remain dynamic and contextually relevant in the digital era. Nonetheless, challenges persist in preserving profound spiritual depth and social bonds. The study concludes that thoughtful technological integration effectively safeguards Nahdlatul Wathan’s spiritual heritage, providing valuable insights for harmonizing religious traditions with modern innovations.
