Abstract

This research is intended to find out the effect of using think pair share learning model towards students’ writing ability at class VII SMP Negeri 5 Kota Jambi. The method used in this research is quasi experimental design by using the randomized posttest only control design. The sample is taken by using purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research is 72 students; 36 students of control class without think pair share learning model and 36 students of experimental class with think pair share learning model. The requirement test is done by using normality test and homogenity test. The normality test of the postest is done by using Liliefors test. The result of normality which is taken from the control test is L0 < Lt (0,115 < 0,147) while the result of normality test in experimental class is L0 < Lt (0,135 < 0,147) and homogenity test in which Fcount < Ftable (1,054<1,74). It means that in normal and homogenity test, so the hypothesis can be tested. The hypothesis test is done by using t-test formula. The result of the research shows that the value of tcount = 6,25 which is higher than ttable = 1,665. In the level of significancy α = 0,05 with dk is 70. The mean of posttest which is required from the experimental class is 88,61 and the mean of posttest which is required from the control class is 73,61. Thus, it can be concluded that the think pair share learning model has a significant effect towards students’ writing ability at class VIIA and VIIC SMP Negeri 5 Kota Jambi. Keywords: Think Pair Share Model, Writing, Personal Letter

Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is the second leading cause of death and the third leading cause of disability throughout theworld. Anemia or reduced hemoglobin level can worsen the tissue damage caused by ischemia; including ischemic braintissue caused by ischemic stroke. Aim: This research aims to determine the association between anemia and stroke severity and clinical course basedon the NIHSS score among acute ischemic stroke patients in Atma Jaya Hospital during 2014-2019 Methods: A cross-sectional study using secondary data from Atma Jaya Stroke Registry from 2014-2019. A totalsampling method obtained 347 samples with complete pertinent data. Anemia was defined as Hb level <12 g/dL for womenand <13 g/dL for men. Stroke severity was measured by NIHSS score. Association between variables was calculated withthe chi-square test. Results: The risk factor associated with the severity of stroke was hypertension (p=0.013). There was no significantassociation between anemia and stroke severity on admission (p=0.895) and hospital discharge (p=0.773). There was nosignificant association between anemia and the clinical course of acute ischemic stroke (p=0.09). Discussion: Factors that may contribute to the various results of similar studies were differences in study design, anemia as a comorbid condition, genetic factors, sample size, and differences in measurement methods of stroke outcomeor severity. Abstract

BackgroundCognitive stimulation therapy (CST) has been proven to be beneficial in improving cognition and quality of life in people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild dementia (MD). This study investigates the benefit of more frequent exclusively CST intervention compared to less-frequent CST-exercise combination on cognitive ability among elderly people with cognitive impairment. MethodsA quasi-experimental controlled study involving 22 subjects aged = 60 years with cognitive impairment. They were divided into three groups: group A (6 months, weekly CST + exercise sessions, n=13), Group B (3 months, twice-weekly CST-only sessions, n=5), group C (3 months, no intervention, n=4) as control. The Modified Mini Mental State Examination Indonesian Version was used for evaluating the cognitive ability of the elderly subjects. Data were analyzed using one-way Anova and Kruskal-Wallis tests ResultsAll participants completed the study, the majority being female with mean age of 70.43 ± 6.97 years and differences in education level distribution across the three groups. The scores before and after the intervention showed a significant difference in the registration and construction domains (p<0.005). However, there was a greater improvement of the mean difference in cognitive scores in groups A and B compared to the control group, although the difference was not statistically significant (p >0.05). ConclusionA twice-weekly CST-only intervention and a once-a-week CST-exercise combination provide better cognitive improvement than no intervention (control). Therefore, elderly people with cognitive impairment should be encouraged to engage in physical activities, brain training, and group activities for promoting the brain’s ability.
