Abstract

Abstrack One of the government's programs is to optimize the distribution of goods, on the other hand, the existence of the Karaeng Galesong Barombong pier has not been optimized for the public, be it for commercial ports or popular ports. For this reason, this study aims to determine the feasibility of the Karaeng Galesong Barombong Pier as a public vessel. The population for this research is all sailors who have worked on the ship, while the sample in this study is the crew of the training ship and the users of the training ship at the Karaeng Galesong pier, up to 50 respondents. The research was carried out through observations and questionnaires, then the data obtained was tabulated and then analyzed by means of a cross table through a simple regression test. The results showed that the operation of the Karaeng Galesong pier by other parties would be 100% if it was supported by data availability, hence warehouse availability, meanwhile up to 80% if supported by a field availability as a place for loading / unloading of goods and only 20% will continue to operate the Karaeng Galesong pier elsewhere even though the loading and unloading field is not available. To be more optimal, it is expected that the competent parties will always update the data so that the Karaeng Galesong pier can be widely used by other parties.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to know the effectiveness of implementation of cooperative learning method type jigsaw to improve skill of speaking English of cadet at Barombong Maritime Polytechnic (Politeknik Pelayaran Barombong) through a class action research (penelitian Tindakan kelas) during 3 cycles.Based on the result of research, researcher is able to conclude that implementing cooperative learning method type Jigsaw effectively improving skill of speaking English. This can be seen from scoring result in every cycle getting higher. The score in cycle II is higher than score in cycle I, while the score in cycle III is higher than score in cycle II. Finally, researcher is able to state “If cooperative learning method type Jigsaw is implemented in English class, the skill of speaking English of student will be improved”.

Abstract

This Cargo handling operations are one of the key elements in ensuring the smooth operation of a port, where speed, accuracy, and safety are important indicators for assessing service effectiveness. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of cargo handling processes at Makassar Port carried out by PT. Pelni Makassar Branch using the ship’s crane as the main equipment. Common problems encountered in cargo handling include limited shore-based equipment, weather conditions, coordination among related parties, as well as technical and operational factors of the ship’s crane itself. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through direct field observations, interviews with operational staff, documentation, and literature studies. The data were analyzed by comparing the standard cargo handling time with the actual time achieved, as well as reviewing constraints and improvement measures taken. The results show that the use of the ship’s crane provides high flexibility in the cargo handling process, especially in conditions where port cargo handling equipment is limited or unavailable. However, the effectiveness of the ship’s crane is influenced by lifting capacity, technical condition of the equipment, operator experience, and cargo stowage arrangement inside the vessel. Observations indicate that the average cargo handling speed using the ship’s crane is slightly below the optimal standard due to waiting times and technical constraints, such as equipment maintenance, vessel positioning adjustments, and unfavorable weather conditions. Nevertheless, good coordination between the vessel’s crew, crane operators, and stevedores can minimize delays. This study recommends improving operator training, conducting regular equipment maintenance, optimizing cargo stowage planning, and integrating operational schedules between the port and vessels to enhance cargo handling effectiveness at Makassar Port.
