Abstract

The presence of numerous similar companies offering bunker services emphasizes the significance of providing excellent customer service as an added value for the company. Maintaining the quality of service is crucial in the competitive bunker service business. Implementing an effective working system is necessary for the company to compete with others and enhance the quality of service provided to consumers. The working system adopted by PT. Pelayaran Athalla Putra Cipunagara includes the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This document outlines systematically ordered procedures to complete tasks. SOPs are incredibly useful for standardizing employee performance and ensuring efficient work outcomes. Throughout the pandemic, various activities involving gatherings have been postponed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Additionally, the government has prohibited the public from hosting wedding recePT.ions. These circumstances have inevitably led to a decline in the number of consumers for PT. Pelayaran Athalla Putra Cipunagara. Pelayaraan Athalla Putra Cipunagara.

Abstract

Effective use of Maritime English is essential for maintaining navigational safety and preventing communication failures in international waters, particularly within Vessel Traffic Service environments where real time decisions influence vessel movements and risk levels. Despite the global adoption of Standard Marine Communication Phrases as a safety protocol, there remains limited empirical evidence on how these phrases are enacted in authentic operational settings and how such practices inform the teaching of Maritime English. This study investigates the real-world application of Maritime English for safety communication at Benoa Vessel Traffic Service in Indonesia. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were generated through analysis of five communication transcripts, eleven semi structured interviews with operators, and three days of field observations. Findings reveal selective adherence to standard phrases during routine procedures, frequent shifts to simplified English and code switching in complex multilingual situations, and pragmatic prioritization of clarity and time sensitive coordination over strict protocol. These patterns highlight gaps between prescribed language taught in training and communicative realities faced by operators. The study contributes empirical insight for refining Maritime English pedagogy by integrating authentic communication tasks, simulation of multilingual scenarios, and training for adaptive yet safety-oriented language practices. In a broader context, the findings reinforce the importance of aligning ESP curriculum design with real operational discourse to support global maritime safety and enhance English language preparedness among future maritime professionals.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model for ship type classification with high accuracy. The developed model achieved 92% accuracy, 91% precision, 93% recall, and 92% F1-Score, which shows the effectiveness of the model in identifying cargo, passenger, and fishing vessels. These results support the research hypothesis (H1), which states that CNN is able to classify ship types with an accuracy of more than 85%. This success was achieved through a systematic approach in data collection and processing. Images collected from Soekarno-Hatta Port and Samalona Island with varying angles and lighting provided diverse data that was important for model training. Data filtering and labeling using the Roboflow platform ensured optimal image quality. Model training used the TensorFlow framework with a batch size of 32 and 50 epochs, resulting in fast convergence and good generalization capabilities. Further evaluation showed that this model was able to minimize classification errors with balanced precision and recall. The main challenge includes the variation of external conditions, but the data augmentation technique successfully overcomes this problem and improves the robustness of the model. This study makes a significant contribution to the development of machine learning-based ship classification technology for maritime surveillance applications. Recommendations for further research include collecting larger datasets and exploring other image processing methods to improve model accuracy under more difficult shooting conditions. Overall, this study shows the great potential of using CNN for maritime surveillance efficiency.
