Abstract

Bresela Village, Gianyar, Bali has had a TPS3R facility since 2022, however household waste sorting remains suboptimal. Sustainable development requires environmental awareness from an early age, making environmental education in elementary schools strategic. This community service activity aimed to increase students' environmental knowledge and encourage behavioral change toward a cleaner and more sustainable life. The activity was conducted at SDN 2 Bresela on July 25, 2025 with 34 students from grades 4, 5, and 6 using a participatory approach and active learning methods through three stages: environmental education counseling, waste sorting simulation, and educational games. Results showed 100% attendance with an average knowledge score increase from 62.9 to 79 points (16.1% increase). A total of 94.12% of participants experienced increased knowledge scores and 82.35% of students achieved scores ≥70. Students demonstrated the ability to correctly sort organic and inorganic waste along with the emergence of new habits such as independently cleaning classrooms and using waste bins according to categories. This activity proves that environmental education through an experiential learning approach effectively increases knowledge and shapes pro-environmental behavior in elementary school students.

Abstract

Income inequality remains a major challenge in Bali Province, despite the region’s heavy reliance on the tourism sector. Access to basic infrastructure such as electricity, roads, and clean water plays a crucial role in improving welfare and reducing disparities between regions. However, previous studies have shown significant inconsistencies regarding the impact of infrastructure on income inequality. Moreover, comprehensive research analyzing the simultaneous and partial effects of electricity, road, and water infrastructure on income inequality at the regency/city level in Bali remains limited. This study aims to analyze the influence of infrastructure variables (electricity, roads, and clean water) on income inequality across regencies/cities in Bali during the period from 2017 to 2023. The analysis employs panel data regression using Pooled OLS, Fixed Effects Model, and Random Effects Model approaches. Model selection is based on the Chow test, Hausman test, and Lagrange Multiplier test, incorporating both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The findings reveal that, simultaneously, infrastructure variables significantly influence income inequality, with an adjusted R-squared value of 0.937. Partially, electricity infrastructure has a positive and significant effect, indicating that increased access to electricity may be associated with rising inequality due to uneven economic activity. Road infrastructure exerts a significant negative effect, suggesting that improved road quality can help reduce inequality. Meanwhile, clean water infrastructure shows a negative but statistically insignificant effect. These findings highlight the importance of equitable and targeted infrastructure development—particularly in the electricity and road sectors—to effectively reduce income inequality in Bali through more inclusive and sustainable development planning.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia's province of Bali was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with its economy experiencing a decline of 9.34% in 2020. Even in 2022, Bali's economy has not fully recovered, while other provinces have already recorded economic growth in 2021. Post-pandemic numbers unemployment in the province of Bali increased from around 1 percent before 2020 to above 5 percent as of August 2022. Unemployment conditions have not improved significantly even though the economy has grown to near normal by 4.84 percent in 2022. This is inseparable from the sector of providing accommodation and food and drink which is one of the largest contributions to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Bali Province. This sector is closely related to tourism. The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a lockdown policy which prevented tourists from visiting Bali. The result is disruption in the tourism sector. Tourism centers such as Kuta and Ubud are like ghost cities because all shops, hotels and restaurants are closed. Even after the restrictions were lifted, tourism sector was still not moving. There are new problems especially in Kuta related to safety and cleanliness. Many shops haven't opened yet because the tourists haven't come yet, while the tourists themselves don't want to come to Kuta because the conditions there don't seem ready. Post-pandemic world economic conditions have also exacerbated the situation, the wars in Russia and Ukraine have disrupted the world economy. Rising inflation and the economy that has not fully recovered have caused people to remain reluctant to travel. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with systematic reviews on papers that raise the issue of unemployment after the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the tourism sector. The data used is data from BPS and literature with the help of the Google Scholar search engine. This paper contributes to address these issues of unemployment in Bali after the COVID-19 pandemic by conducting literature studies in various locations that have similar problems. This study found that the main challenge in employment in the tourism sector in Bali is the vulnerability to unemployment caused by dependence on foreign tourists and lack of investment. For this reason, the Government has started to carry out stimulus to attract foreign investment while increasing the interest of local tourists to Bali. Starting from building special economic zones, building new industries such as health tourism, and develop infrastructure
