Abstract

Java-tea-based (Orthosiphon aristatus B. Miq) functional drink is reported to have privileges, mainly its physiological functions and bioactive properties such as antioxidant activity and antihyperglycemic ability. Java-tea-based functional drinks contain bioactive compounds from natural materials, including java-tea leaves, ginger, sappan-wood, curcuma, lime, and kaffir lime. Several innovations and challenges have been carried out during its development, affecting the drinks' quality and stability. The stability of the beverage, especially in the aspects of sensory and bioactive properties, is still considered inferior. This review focuses on the formulation and processing technology conducted from 2007 to 2019. In the case of the reformulation, it showed that the addition of kaffir lime extract, lime extract, and flavor enhancer could improve the sensory properties in terms of aroma and taste. Furthermore, the changes in the specific java-tea plants' variety as the main ingredient and replacing the sucrose with non-sucrose sweeteners increased the bioactive properties. Recently, the formula has been enriched with a red fruit oil emulsion to improve the drink's appearance due to contains abundant carotenoid pigments. However, the addition also created another hurdle, particularly in the flavor sensory aspect and emulsion stability. In the case of processing, applying microencapsulation and nanoencapsulation in java-tea drinks has increased the bioactive properties, especially antioxidant activity, and antihyperglycemic, and also improved the product's stability which prolonged the shelf life. The development of java-tea-based functional drinks might become a milestone to reference other similar product development.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to describe the process of making Juadah in Kanagarian Balah Aie, VII Koto Sungai Sariak District, Padang Pariaman Regency, and to examine the challenges in preserving this tradition. Juadah is a ceremonial offering in the manjalang mintuo procession, which holds symbolic value in Minangkabau culture. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of two traditional Juadah production businesses. The findings reveal that the Juadah production process still adheres to traditional techniques, requiring approximately 24 hours and involving 4–8 workers. The main challenges faced are the availability of raw materials and price fluctuations, which impact production. Therefore, efforts in education and the involvement of younger generations are essential to preserving the tradition of Juadah making as part of Minangkabau cultural heritage. Keywords: Juadah, Manjalang Mintuo, Tradition Minangkabau, Kanagarian Balah Aie.

Abstract

Air pollution in urban areas, particularly in Jakarta, is a significant issue that impacts public health and environmental quality. This study aims to analyze air quality patterns in Jakarta from 2010 to 2023 using the K-Means Clustering method based on Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) data. Data processing stages based on the CRISP-DM methodology are applied to process and analyze data systematically. The stages include business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modeling, and evaluation. The results showed that the data were divided into three distinct clusters: healthy, unhealthy, and moderate. Cluster 0, which includes stations DKI1 and DKI2, shows better air quality, while cluster 2, which consists of stations DKI3, DKI4, and DKI5, shows higher pollution levels. These findings offer valuable insights for policymakers in developing more effective air pollution control strategies. Thus, the results of this study not only contribute to the understanding of air quality in Jakarta but also emphasize the need for data-driven mitigation actions to improve public health and the environment.

Abstract

The research objective is to analyse both sociologically and juridically the phenomenon of communities still using rincik (land tax documents) as the basis of land ownership, particularly in rural areas. Although rincik is not legally recognised as a valid proof of land ownership under Indonesian positive law, it continues to be perceived as a legitimate document by segments of society. This creates legal challenges, particularly in terms of legal certainty and land rights protection. The study employs a socio-legal approach using descriptive qualitative methods. Data were collected through literature review and interviews with community members who still rely on rincik as evidence of land ownership. The findings reveal that the continued use of rincik is influenced by various factors such as economic limitations, lack of access to legal information, strong cultural attachment to traditional documents, and inefficiencies in land administration services. The study also finds a gap between formal law and the living law within society. Therefore, a sociological approach and inclusive policy reform in land affairs are needed to ensure that law is substantively embraced by the people.
