Abstract

Abstract

Peat water contains high iron levels and is reddish-brown in color. Consuming iron in doses above the threshold can endanger health and even lead to sudden death. Additionally, iron pollution can disrupt aquatic ecosystems. Coconut pulp has the potential to adsorb heavy metal iron due to its cellulose, mannan, and galactomannan content. The stages of producing adsorbent from coconut pulp include preparation, carbonization, activation of activated carbon, testing of activated carbon consisting of moisture content, volatile matter content, ash content, and pure carbon content tests, FTIR testing, and determining the % adsorption efficiency of iron (Fe) metal ions and adsorption capacity of iron (Fe) metal ions using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). Carbonization is carried out at a temperature of 400°C for 2 hours, and activation is performed with 3 N phosphoric acid activator for 24 hours. The FTIR results of coconut pulp activated carbon (CPAC) show a slight increase in the C=O stretching absorption peak and a decrease in almost all absorption peaks such as O-H stretching, C=C aromatic ring, C-H bending, C=O stretching, and =C-H aromatic. A new absorption peak appears in CPAC at the absorption region of 908.47 cm⁻¹, indicating the formation of =C-H aromatic bonds. The efficiency percentage shows that CPAC can adsorb Fe metal ions by 99.16% with an adsorption capacity of 0.22 mg/g, while coconut pulp carbon (CPC) can adsorb Fe metal ions by 34.66% with an adsorption capacity of 0.08 mg/g.

Abstract

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a long-term complication of diabetes mellitus (DM). The gold standard for diagnosis of DKD is kidney biopsy, but it is difficult to perform. Several clinical conditions have found an association between higher ANGPTL4 plasma levels in DKD. Methods: A total of 87 patients with Type 2 DM were analysed using an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional design. The study subjects were divided into DKD and non DKD groups, then serum ANGPTL4 was measured using the sandwich ELISA method. Furthermore, ANGPTL index cutoff was determined. Several other variables including glycemic control, duration of DM, history of hypertension, and dyslipidemia were analysed for their association with DKD and non DKD groups. The study continued by conducting multivariate analysis with logistic regression. Results: A total of 23 (26.4%) subjects were classified as DKD and 64 (73.6%) subjects as non DKD. ANGPTL cutoff determination of 16.64 ng/mL had a sensitivity and specificity of 87% and 51.6%, respectively. Bivariate analysis showed glycaemic control, duration of DM, and serum ANGPTL4 (p=0.044; p=0.009; p=0.014) were associated with the incidence of DKD. Multivariate analysis showed that serum ANGPTL4 with a cutoff of >16.64 ng/mL could be used as an independent predictor of DKD incidence with an adjusted OR of 6.73 (95%CI= 1.79-25.30; p=0.005). Conclusion: serum ANGPTL4 is an independent predictor of DKD. Suggestion: Urine sampling for UACR examination twice, periodic examination of serum ANGPTL4 levels to assess the progressiveness of DKD.

Abstract

Pesantren is an institution that contributes to the scholarship of Islam as well as religious societies. It will be a place of learning the science of religion, cultivation of faith and fear of God, character and morality so that it will become a leader and a Muslim scientist that will benefit the society in the future. Islamic education has grown and undergone an exciting shift from the 17th to the 21st century. This shift is part of Kyai's innovative teaching approach that is central to the training, the student's qualitative understanding, not just the cognitive aspects taught in the classroom, and the priority given to the ethical and spiritual aspects of the training. The trainer has to adapt according to the needs and challenges of the moment and of course the presence of the Kyai figure is important in this training. One of today's national challenges is that training plays an important role in promoting moderate Islamic values that tolerate and accept differences. The growth of practitioners as Islamic institutions becomes an opportunity to spread the understanding of moderate Islam, a sustainable life that protects us from chaos. Such development is part of an adaptation to the evolution of the times and to preserve its existence and contribution to the scholarship of Islam. With regard to the diversity of such development, there is a need for a literature review to map the development of the architecture of the country as a fragment of the existing literature.
