Abstract

The development of melon varieties (Cucumis melo L.) is not only carried out on improving fruit quality, but also on disease resistance, one of which is gummy stem blight (GSB). Gummy stem blight disease at high levels cause a decrease in quality to loss of yield, so the development of gummy stem blight-resistant varieties is necessary. The study was conducted in July - November 2024 in Desa Bansari, Kecamatan Bansari, Kabupaten Temanggung, Central Java Province. The design used was a single-factor complete randomized block design (RCBD) with three replications using 21 melon genotypes planted in a greenhouse. Based on the incidence and severity of gummy stem blight disease observed in the generative phase through natural infection, it is known that there are very significant differences between the test genotypes. In this experiment, no genotypes were found to be highly resistant to gummy stem blight. Potential genotypes that showed moderate to low levels of disease incidence and severity included genotypes 44 (disease incidence: 53.33% and disease severity: 26%), 27 (disease incidence: 75.00% and disease severity: 25.33%), and 35 (disease incidence: 70.25% and disease severity: 37.00%). The broad-sense heritability values showed high values of 88.9% for disease incidence and 93.9% for disease severity. Potential genotypes from screening could be used in the development of lines for gummy stem blight resistance breeding.

Abstract

Melon breeding for fruit quality improvement is important to produce new varieties that meet consumers’ demand. The aim of this study was to elucidate the fruit characteristics of melon at five different maturity stages, involving several genotypes belonging to two cultivar groups: reticulatus and inodorus. The experiments were conducted in three planting seasons: (1) January-March 2015 (13 genotypes), (2) December 2015-February 2016 (56 genotypes), (3) February-May 2016 (9 genotypes). These trials were conducted at the Tajur II experimental station of IPB, Bogor, and each trial was arranged in a single factor randomized complete block design with three blocks. Maturity stages was determined based on fruit rind color and net coverage, and their effects on fruit quality were studied using combined analyses over seasons. Maturity stage significantly affected the fruit length, fruit diameter, flesh thickness, fruit weight, and sugar content. The average weight of the fruits at maturity stage 4 (838.90 g) and 5 (931.79 g) was significantly greater than that of stage 1 (584.42 g). The sugar content increased from maturity stage 2 (5.51 oBrix) to 3 (6.13 oBrix) and to 5 (8.18 oBrix). Fruit weight significantly correlated with fruit length (r = 0.53), fruit diameter (r = 0.85), fruit rind thickness (r = 0.33), and flesh thickness (r = 0.63). Maturity stages affected the quality of melon fruits, and therefore the determination of appropriate harvesting criteria is important in melon cultivations.Keywords: cantalupensis, correlation, inodorus, fruit quality, skin colour

Abstract

Perakitan varietas melon unggul baru memerlukan materi genetik yang beragam. Ekspresi keragaman genetik memerlukan lingkungan yang mendukung, salah satunya adalah ketersediaan air bagi tanaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan: (1) mempelajari pengaruh varietas (V), perlakuan irigasi (I), interaksi VxI terhadap karakter melon, (2) mengestimasi komponen ragam dan heritabilitas arti luas karakter melon, (3) mengestimasi produktivitas air dan penggunaan air tiap tanaman melon. Percobaan dilakukan di rumah kaca Kebun Percobaan Cikabayan, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura, Fakultas Pertanian IPB, Darmaga, Bogor, pada bulan September-November 2017 menggunakan rancangan tersarang dengan dua faktor dan lima ulangan. Lima varietas melon (‘Honey Dew’, ‘Honey Blonde’, ‘Brilliant’, ‘Athena’, dan ‘Serenade’) ditempatkan secara acak pada tiap ulangan di dalam tiap taraf perlakuan irigasi (784 L, 1,127 L, dan 1,407 L). Varietas berpengaruh nyata terhadap karakter diameter batang, panjang daun, lebar daun, umur berbunga jantan, umur berbunga hermafrodit, panjang buah dan padatan terlarut total. Perlakuan irigasi tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap semua karakter tanaman, namun interaksi VxI berpengaruh nyata pada karakter umur panen. Karakter padatan terlarut total dan panjang daun memiliki nilai heritabilitas arti luas >50%. Produktivitas air irigasi adalah 153.7 kg ha-1 mm-1 dan total penggunaan air untuk tiap tanaman pada perlakuan irigasi P1, P2, dan P3 masing-masing adalah 38.58 L, 50.78 L, dan 73.19 L. Abstract

Upaya meningkatkan produksi cabai rawit untuk memenuhi permintaan yang terus meningkat perlu terus dilakukan. Salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan yaitu dengan perakitan varietas baru cabai rawit berdaya hasil tinggi melalui kegiatan pemuliaan tanamanPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi morfologi buah pada cabai rawit hasil iradiasi sinar gamma. Indentifikasi atau karakterisasi penting untuk dilakukan karena informasi dari kegiatan tersebut akan membantu pemulia dalam mengidentifikasi dan memahami perbedaan karakter diantara genotipe. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Wedomartani Fakultas Pertanian UPN Veteran Yogyakarta, mulai bulan Juli 2023 sampai Januari 2024. Bahan genetik yang digunakan yaitu 87 genotipe M1 cabai rawit dan 2 varietas pembanding. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan yaitu Rancangan Bersekat (Augmented Design) dengan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap (RAKL) sebagai rancangan lingkungan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan keragaman pada karakter kuantitatif maupun kualitatif. Genotipe KL1-46 memiliki diameter buah, tebal daging buah, panjang buah, bobot/buah, jumlah buah/tanaman, dan bobot buah/tanaman nyata lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kedua varietas pembanding. Beberapa genotipe M1 cabai rawit juga menunjukkan perbedaan dengan varietas pembanding pada karakter kualitatif bentuk buah, lengkung keriting buah, penampang melintang buah, bentuk ujung buah, dan warna buah tua. Sementara itu, hasil analisis klaster membagi genotipe-genotipe yang diamati dalam 5 klaster.
