Abstract

The number of female workers has begun to show equality between men and women. However, the workforce sector is very prone to gender injustice, one of which is sexual harassment of women workers. A study in 2017 conducted by Perempuan Mahardhika shows that 56.5% of 773 workers had experienced some forms of sexual harassment in the workplace, especially at KBN Cakung. Based on this, questions arise to be able to find out how the portrait of sexual harassment of women workers at KBN Cakung. This study aims to reveal the voices of women workers against silent crime in the workplace. This study uses a feminist standpoints method to acknowledge women's voices. In this study, a purposive technique accompanied by a gatekeeper determined the informants. The results of this study indicate a portrait of sexual harassment experienced by female workers, both verbally, psychologically, as well as physically. There are four forms of harassment found outside the 16 established forms, namely voyeurism, online-based sexual harassment, forced dating with a marriage mode and also intimidation. The existence of reduction carried out by the structure makes silent crime unable to be categorized as the dominant discourse about crime, a new model of crime that cannot be framed by a conventional paradigm. AbstrakSemakin banyaknya keterlibatan perempuan di sektor publik seperti bidang ketenagakerjaan, maka dipercaya hadir pula kesetaraan antara perempuan dan laki-laki. Namun, keyakinan seperti itu ternyata tidak cukup karena pada kenyataannya masih banyak buruh perempuan mengalami sexual harassment. Salah satu kasus pelecehan seksual tersebut dikaji oleh organisasi Perempuan Mahardhika pada tahun 2017 yang menunjukkan bahwa sekitar 56,5% dari 773 buruh perempuan di KBN Cakung pernah mengalami bentuk pelecehan seksual. Berdasarkan data tersebut, muncul pertanyaan terkait potret pelecehan seksual buruh perempuan di KBN Cakung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap suara para buruh perempuan dalam melawan kejahatan sunyi atau kejahatan yang tidak teridentifikasi di tempat kerja. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian feminist standpoint yang berfungsi untuk mengangkat suara buruh perempuan. Teknik penentuan informan adalah purposive, dengan didampingi oleh gate keeper atau mereka yang bisa memberi akses bagi para buruh perempuan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan potret pelecehan seksual yang dialami oleh buruh perempuan baik secara verbal, psikis, maupun fisik. Ditemukan empat bentuk pelecehan di luar 16 bentuk yang sudah diidentifikasi yakni voyeurisme, pelecehan seksual berbasis online, kencan paksa dengan modus dinikahi, dan juga adanya intimidasi. Adanya kecenderungan reduksi defenisi kriminalitas oleh perspektif formal atau konvensional, membuat kejahatan sunyi yang dialami buruh perempuan seringkali tidak dilihat sebagai praktek kriminalitas.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas kritik terhadap epistemologi yang selama ini dipengaruhi dan bias Barat. Tujuan dari artikel ini adalah mengungkap sisi diskriminatif dari epistemologi tersebut. Dengan menggunakan studi literatur, ada dua hal yang menjadi fokus utama. Pertama, sisi diskriminatif dari epistemologi Barat tidak bisa terlepas dari modernitas yang lekat dengan kemajuan dan kebaruan. Watak demikian pada akhirnya mendiskriminasi cara mengetahui dari masyarakat tradisional atau kelompok etnis tertentu. Kedua, wacana pembangunan menjadi jalan untuk mengembangkan epistemologi yang bias Barat. Wacana ini menjadi alat untuk menguasai kembali negara-negara Selatan atau bekas jajahan melalui justifikasi epistemologi yang khas Barat. Kesimpulan dan saran dari artikel ini adalah sikap kritis ilmuwan yang perlu dihadirkan untuk mampu melihat varian epistemologi lainnya yang sesuai dengan konteks masyarakat tertentu, tentunya tanpa menolak begitu saja semua standar keilmuan Barat.

Abstract

Bahasan praktik eksploitasi perempuan yang terselubung pada kelompok sosial mahasiswa seringkali tersingkirkan dari diskursus pembangunan sosial. Akun instagram @ugmcantik sebagai produk digitalisasi, dipandang sedang menciptakan standar dan tuntutan kecantikan subjektif yang tajam. Terjadi polemik karena admin melakukan komodifikasi produk ekonomi dan taktik politik kekuasaan untuk pelemahan identitas. Dalam mengkaji reaksi dari penyanjungan kecantikan; terkhusus wacana inklusivitas gender, peneliti melakukan wawancara mendalam terhadap lima pemilik foto dan lima pengikut aktif. Dengan basis konsep feminisme Naomi Wolf dan Diskursus Michel Foucault tentang relasi pengetahuan kekuasaan, diketahui terdapat tiga praktik konstruksi perempuan: (1) glorifikasi kecantikan; (2) komodifikasi tubuh; dan (3) pelanggaran privasi. Glorifikasi sejatinya adalah luka karena ini sebuah jebakan untuk mengobjektifikasi perempuan dengan balutan halus dan eksklusif. Kunci untuk mengategorikan praktik eksploitasi adalah berdasarkan persetujuan afirmatif dari keterlibatan kedua pihak. Setiap orang memiliki simpulan yang berbeda. Keberanian dan penalaran kritis sangat dibutuhkan untuk penciptaan lingkungan kampus yang aman dan tidak bias gender. Kata kunci: gender, glorifikasi, eksploitasi, kecantikan, konstruksi perempuan The discussion regarding practices of women's exploitation that are unseen within student social groups are often excluded from social development discourse. The Instagram account @ugmcantik as a digitalization product is seen as creating standards and demands for a steep subjective beauty. There was a polemic because the administrator commodified economic products and political power tactics to weaken identity. In studying the reaction to the adoration of beauty; especially on the discourse of gender inclusivity, the researchers carried in-depth interviews with five photo owners and five active followers. Based on the concept of Naomi Wolf's feminism and Michel Foucault's discourse on the relation of knowledge to power, it is known that there are three practices of women’s construction: (1) glorification of beauty; (2) body commodification; and (3) invasion of privacy. Glorification is, in fact, a violation due to its hidden purpose of objectifying women with smooth, implicit means. The main point of categorizing women exploitation is based on the affirmative agreement between both parties involved. Everyone has a different conclusion. Courage and critical reasoning are needed to create a safe and gender-neutral campus environment. Keywords: beauty, exploitation, gender, glorification, women construction

Abstract

This article discusses Sandra Harding's idea of strong objectivity. The idea is a response to the problems faced by feminist methodology which stands between objectivism and subjectivism. Objectivism is the conventional methodology that views the research process must be objective and value-free. Meanwhile, subjectivism privileges the role of the subjects and values. However, the objectivity within the conventional methodology is normally biased with the interests of the dominant group, while the subjectivity is seen as vulnerable being trapped into relativism. The subjectivity cannot also determine which knowledge is valid. Using the method of literature study based on Sandra Harding's works, there are four contributions of strong objectivity to feminist methodology. First, the feminist methodology will be more creative instead of normative. Second, the feminist methodology will be more sensitive concerning the backgrounds, interests, and objectives of the research subjects. Third, the feminist methodology must be more aware of the diversity of society as the context of research. Fourth, the feminist methodology will strengthen its objectivity starting from the perspective of marginalized women.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to disclose the importance of preserving the Batu Lumbang mangrove forest in Denpasar, Bali. The mangrove forest is notable for its high biodiversity rate, and it is also become a popular tourist destination at the same time. This study employs convergent parallel mixed-methods data collection, which includes observation, mapping with Google Earth and Landsat 8 satellite imagery, semi-structured interviews with relevant key informants, and a literature review. Afterwards, descriptive techniques are used to analyse the data. The results indicate that the Batu Lumbang mangrove forest has a coverage area of approximately 85.9 Ha, with a rainfall tension of approximately 100 mm/year in the rain season and 60 mm/year in the dry season. Sixteen vegetation species were discovered in the mangrove forest compound, all of which are common in lowland and mangrove ecosystems. There are also 36 species of fauna, the majority of which are bird and avian in nature. Furthermore, changes in land cover indicate a vibrant ecosystem in the Batu Lumbang mangrove forest area. So far, three types of land cover have been identified: mangrove forests, water bodies and the built environment. Mangrove forests remain dominant among these three, accounting for 60.35 %. As a result, it is no wonder that mangroves have become the primary tourist attraction in Batu Lumbang. Some preservation efforts related to tourism activities that can be made based on its ecological value include: establishing a system of visitor management, dealing with waste problems, and spatial management in areas with high biodiversity as a form of rigorous conservation initiative. Abstract

This research aimed to understand the breastfeeding practices of mothers in Karo lands, North Sumatera, Indonesia. This research used ethnographic approach with data collection methods including participant observation, formal interviews and informal interviews. This research involved 27 participants. The research presented how Karo women's experiences of breastfeeding are influenced by three main institutional structures: the state, religion, and ethnic tradition. This study identified three essential points related to breastfeeding practices in Karo lands:  First, Karo mothers in the breastfeeding practice become an agency in negotiating the practical and discursive dimensions of breastfeeding in relation to the state and the church. Second, it is related to Karo culture in which mothers have a special treatment in Karo community, mostly because they are breastfeeding. Third, it is related to the continued influence of Karo culture in which the breastfeeding practice is influenced by the central figure of Karo community, i.e. the grandmother. This research provided a new knowledge about ethnic women’s experiences in the breastfeeding practice. Further, the research needs to be enriched with the experiences of voiceless women in breastfeeding practices.Studi ini bertujuan untuk memahami praktik menyusui para ibu di Tanah Karo, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia. Penelitian mengunakan pendekatan etnografi dengan melakukan teknik pengumpulan data seperti observasi partisipan, wawancara formal dan percakapan informal atau perbincangan sehari-hari. Penelitian melibatkan 27 informan. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa para ibu dipengaruhi oleh negara, agama, dan tradisi etnis. Studi mengidentifikasi tiga temuan esensial terkait dengan praktik menyusui para ibu di Tanah Karo. Pertama, para ibu menunjukkan sisi agensi atau kemandirian terkait praktik menyusui khususnya di hadapan kebijakan negara dan agama. Kedua, terkait dengan kultur Karo, para ibu memperoleh perlakuan yang istimewa, khususnya karena sedang menyusui. Ketiga, masih terkait dengan kultur Karo, praktik menyusui para ibu dipengaruhi oleh figur sentral yakni nenek. Studi ini memperkaya kajian terkait pengalaman perempuan dengan latar belakang etnisitas. Penelitian lebih lanjut perlu dilanjutkan dan diperkaya khususnya terkait dengan pengalaman perempuan marginal atau minoritas dalam hal praktik menyusui.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss solitude during the social distancing era caused by theCovid-19 pandemic. Various studies showed that the pandemic had an impact on aspects ofhuman life such as health, economy, social, and education. Aside from those various aspects,one of the life changes that many people experienced during pandemic is social distancing or physical distancing. People were forced to live in solitude in the social distancing era. In general,solitude is an uninteresting topic to discuss. The situation is even more viewed negatively andassociated with loneliness, sadness, and even helplessness. In contrast to the negative view, thisarticle aims to clarify solitude from a more positive standpoint. This study uses a qualitativemethod with a literature study approach. The data sources come from various literatures thatintersect social sciences, philosophy and spirituality, particularly those that address the theme of solitude. Three findings were identified and analyzed based on the various literature. First,solitude encourages individuals to increasingly recognize themselves. Second, solitude createsa space of freedom for humans, particularly in the context of social relations. Third, solitude bringspeople closer to nature. This article closes with a conclusion about the importance of practicingsolitude in certain situations, even outside the context of a pandemic

Abstract

This article explores the relevance and potential benefits of contemplative life in the contemporary world. It discusses the background of the contemplative tradition and its historical context, as well as its current role in modern society. The article also describes the methods used to conduct a literature review of relevant research and texts, as well as an analysis of contemporary applications of contemplation in various fields and contexts. Databases searched included JSTOR, Google Scholar, and PubMed. The results and discussion section of the article covers the key findings from the literature review and analysis, highlighting both the potential benefits and challenges associated with the practice of contemplative techniques in the modern world. The conclusion of this article suggests that while the contemplative life may face challenges in contemporary society, it remains a relevant and beneficial practice for individuals seeking personal growth, spiritual development, and enhanced well-being.

Abstract

Abstrak Perempuan terlibat dalam berbagai sektor pekerjaan formal maupun informal, tetapi sering dianggap sebagai pekerja kelas dua. Di PT Perkebunan Teh Harum Melati, pengalaman perempuan pekerja jarang dibahas secara mendalam. Dengan menggunakan teori Feminist Standpoint dari Nancy Hartsock, penelitian ini mencoba memahami pengalaman unik perempuan yang bekerja di pabrik teh. Selain menghadapi tantangan di tempat kerja, mereka juga berperan dalam rumah tangga sebagai ibu dan istri, serta dalam komunitasnya. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan metode studi kasus tunggal, dengan pengumpulan data berlangsung sejak Juni hingga Agustus 2023 di pabrik teh dan perumahan karyawan di Simalungun, Sumatera Utara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman perempuan di tiga arena kehidupannya (rumah, kerja, dan komunitas) saling terkait dan membentuk pengalaman khas. Pengalaman bekerja bertahun-tahun meningkatkan rasa percaya diri dan keberanian mereka dalam merencanakan masa depan. Kekuatan mereka juga didukung oleh hubungan keluarga dan pertemanan. Kata Kunci : pekerja perempuan, pengalaman, keluarga, tempat kerja Abstract Women are involved in various sectors of both formal and informal work, but they are often regarded as second-class workers. At PT Perkebunan Teh Harum Melati, the experiences of female workers are rarely explored in depth. By using Nancy Hartsock's Feminist Standpoint theory, this study seeks to understand the unique experiences of women working in the tea factory. In addition to facing challenges at work, they also play roles at home as mothers and wives, as well as within their communities. This qualitative study employs a single case study method, with data collection conducted from June to August 2023 at the tea factory and employee housing in Simalungun, North Sumatra. The findings show that women's experiences across the three spheres of life (home, work, and community) are interconnected and shape a distinctive experience. Years of work experience have enhanced their self-confidence and courage in planning for the future. Their strength is also supported by family and social relationships.
