Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the experiences of informants with regard to their sexuality and to look at the role of PLUSH in the discourse of 'non-normative' sexuality in Indonesia, more specifically Yogyakarta. This research method is a qualitative research with a'mini' approach to discourse analysis by Foucault, research informants, data collection techniques (interviews, literature studies, documentation, and other media sources), data presentation, and triangulation. The data used came from primary data, namely interviews with the five informants (Bhista (30), Shamil (37), Nakula (35), Abimanyu (23) and Rangga (26), as well as secondary data from reliable sources (documentation from the media, literature, and others). The results of this study are as follows: (1) a world dominated by heteronomous concepts, where general discourse tends to corner non-binary sexuality, as experienced by members of the PLUSH, an LGBTQ advocacy organization. (2) The research contributes to the fields of community empowerment, social movements, LGBTQ studies, and social policy by providing a platform for marginalized voices and documenting new social movements. (3) The research is based on the theory of panopticon prison theory, which is used to describe the experience of the informants in exploring and fighting for their sexual identity in the context of a dominating discourse. It is hoped that further research can involve informants from various sexual orientations such as asexual and bisexual, to provide a more comprehensive picture of non-heteronormal sexuality discourse.

Abstract

Indonesia continues to face significant educational challenges, particularly in terms of instructional quality, curriculum relevance, and pedagogical approaches that often fall short in promoting the holistic development of student. This paper critically examines the potential of Don Bosco’s educational philosophy as a constructive response to these issues within the context of Catholic schools in Indonesia. Using a literature review method, the study explores the core principles of Don Bosco’s Preventive System, reason, religion, and loving-kindness, and their applicability to contemporary educational concerns. The findings reveal that Don Bosco’s approach provides a holistic educational framework that integrates academic excellence with moral and spiritual formation. The Preventive System creates a nurturing environment grounded in trust, presence, and personal responsibility. It emphasizes emotional intelligence, relational pedagogy, and a strong educator-student relationship, aligning with the values of Christian personalism, which upholds the dignity and integral development of each learner. Specifically, Don Bosco’s approach offers practical solutions to current challenges in Catholic schools in Indonesia by: (1) fostering a school culture of accompaniment rather than authoritarian discipline, which helps prevent behavioral problems; (2) promoting a values-based curriculum that forms conscience and character; (3) encouraging active and compassionate teacher involvement, which counteracts disengaged teaching practices; and (4) supporting a faith-centered education that is responsive to local cultural and spiritual needs. The study concludes that the implementation of Don Bosco’s Preventive System in Catholic education offers a strategic and sustainable solution for improving both character and intellectual development, while also renewing the Catholic identity and mission of schools in Indonesia.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Advokasi Perempuan; Kemiskinan Menstruasi; Hak Kesehatan Menstruasi; Diskursus Abstract This study analyzes the discourse surrounding menstruation in society through the lens of Michel Foucault's theories on power, discourse, and knowledge. Using a case study method, the research explores how Biyung Indonesia constructs an alternative discourse to challenge the dominance of mainstream narratives. Mainstream discourse often stigmatizes menstruation as taboo, limiting open conversation and perpetuating practices that neglect women's health rights. This is reinforced by state policies and industry control, which tend to prioritize disposable pads while overlooking more sustainable alternatives. In response, Biyung Indonesia challenges this dominant narrative by advocating for open dialogue, promoting menstrual health education, and championing cloth pads as an environmentally friendly solution. The discourse on menstruation is crucial for advancing gender equality, health rights, and environmental sustainability, making it a vital issue in social development. This research fills a gap in the literature by examining how grassroots movements like Biyung Indonesia can foster policy changes that are more responsive to women’s needs.
