Abstract

Waste collection fleets play a vital role in municipal solid waste management and urban environmental quality. Nevertheless, operational inefficiencies, such as vehicle overloading, suboptimal route planning, and inadequate maintenance, have contributed to significant environmental and infrastructural impacts, including road degradation and diminished urban hygiene. This research adopts a qualitative approach grounded in a comprehensive review of relevant literature to examine how organizational culture affects the performance of waste collection fleets and their broader urban impact. The findings suggest that weak institutional culture, fragmented coordination among agencies, and inconsistent adherence to operational standards are critical drivers of inefficiency. Moreover, limited inter-agency integration, the absence of effective oversight mechanisms, as well as limited technological innovation further compound these challenges. Addressing these systemic issues requires targeted cultural and governance reforms. Key recommendations include strengthening human resource capacity, integrating environmentally sound technologies, and fostering institutional accountability and environmental responsibility. These interventions are essential to enhance operational efficiency. They also play a key role in reducing the ecological footprint of urban waste transportation systems.

Abstract

Environmental issues have become a critical agenda within the global education system, including in Indonesia, which has adopted environmental education through the Adiwiyata Program. However, fostering an environmentally conscious school culture cannot rely solely on programmatic initiatives; it requires visionary and participatory leadership. This research aims to examine how principals' transformational leadership can promote teachers’ Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) as a catalyst for building a sustainable school culture. A descriptive qualitative method with a single case study design was employed, focusing on an elementary school located in the suburban area of Bogor Regency. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, documentation, and supplemented by closed-ended questionnaires. The findings reveal that the principal demonstrated key elements of transformational leadership—particularly idealized influence and intellectual stimulation—which significantly encouraged OCB among teachers, including proactive engagement in environmental initiatives and contributions to character development in students (e.g., care, discipline, and responsibility). These results align with existing literature, underscoring the interplay between transformational leadership, OCB, and the development of organizational culture. This research highlights the importance of integrating character-building into environmental education, enhancing ecologically oriented leadership development, promoting synergy between leadership and OCB, and reinforcing institutional policies that support sustainable environmental practices in schools.

Abstract

Green bonds are becoming an increasingly popular financial instrument to finance sustainable environmental projects. However, there are still significant challenges related to transparency, accountability, and accurate impact measurement. This research aims to design an integration model of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) indicators in a blockchain-based system to increase transparency and investor trust. The research method uses the Research and Development (R&D) approach with the Borg & Gall model, through the stages of literature study, model design, expert validation, and system flow simulation. The results show that blockchain can be used as a reliable framework for smart contract-based ESG reporting and distributed ledger. This model demonstrates the potential in improving project accountability and attracting more institutional investors to green finance instruments. The research offers significant practical value by equipping financial institutions with a tool to mitigate greenwashing risks and enable real-time monitoring of ESG compliance. For policymakers, it presents a scalable framework to standardize reporting requirements, particularly in emerging markets where green finance is rapidly growing. Theoretically, the research contributes to the discourse on blockchain applications in sustainable finance by demonstrating its potential to resolve principal-agent problems in impact investing. Additionally, the integration of smart contracts with ESG metrics opens new avenues for automating sustainable financial instruments, paving the way for future technological innovations in this domain.

Abstract

The 5R (Concise, Neat, Clean, Careful, Diligent) work culture is the foundation of modern work environment management that aims to create an efficient, clean, safe, and productive workplace. However, the implementation of this principle is highly dependent on the active role of the organization's leader. This study aims to examine the role of leadership in the success of the 5R culture through a systematic literature review of 16 academic articles from various sectors: manufacturing industry, MSMEs, health services, education, and SOEs. The method used is a thematical-narrative approach with classification based on sector, leadership style, implementation strategy, and successful implementation of the 5R. The results of the study show that the success of the 5Rs is strongly influenced by four key leadership roles: facilitator, role model, communicator, and evaluator. In the large industrial sector, the MSME sector, the education and healthcare environment, design implementation, local leadership play a role in the synchronization of work values and practices. The discussion emphasized the importance of contextual and transformational leadership to ensure the sustainability of the 5R culture. Many studies indicate that the 5R culture often fails to survive due to weak evaluation and inconsistency of leaders. A value-based leadership training approach and visual work design are also recommended to strengthen the internalization of the 5R principles. This article concludes that leadership has a crucial influence on the success of the 5Rs in various organizational contexts. The leadership role framework built in this study can be used as a guideline for training, organizational development, and evaluation of work culture policies. Further research based on primary data is needed to test the effectiveness of leadership interventions on the success of cross-sector work culture.

Abstract

Mangrove conservation plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems and mitigating climate change impacts. However, efforts to preserve these ecosystems are often impeded by land conversion, environmental degradation, and lack of coordination among the stakeholders involved. This article examines the application of multi-actor governance in mangrove conservation, focusing on the roles of government, the private sector, and local communities. This study employs a qualitative approach with thematic analysis, involving in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) in several coastal areas of Indonesia that harbor significant mangrove ecosystems. The findings indicate that the government plays a key role in establishing policies and regulations; however, limited inter-institutional coordination remains a significant challenge. The private sector participates through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and sustainable partnerships, but their engagement is still suboptimal due to insufficient incentives and weak supportive policies. Local communities, particularly those residing adjacent to mangrove forests, play a crucial role in conservation despite ongoing tensions between short-term economic demands and long-term conservation objectives. Enhanced communication platforms and clearly defined incentives can facilitate more effective collaboration among these three actors, thereby strengthening sustainable mangrove conservation efforts. This article concludes that inclusive and coordinated multi-actor governance holds substantial potential to generate sustainable social, economic, and environmental outcomes for mangrove ecosystems and coastal communities.

Abstract

Visionary leadership is often regarded as the hallmark of success in modern organizations, yet it embodies a profound paradox. This study explores the tension between the inspirational power of a visionary founder and the systemic risks arising from overdependence on a singular figure in a biotechnology start-up. Employing a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis and narrative interpretation, this article reveals how leader-centric cultures may accelerate growth but also jeopardize long-term organizational resilience. These findings carry significant implications for organizational practice, suggesting that biotechnology firms must implement structural reforms to complement visionary leadership with robust governance frameworks and formal succession planning. The study contributes to leadership theory by challenging conventional assumptions about the universal benefits of visionary leadership and highlighting its intricate relationship with organizational sustainability. For policymakers and investors, the results emphasize the necessity of promoting governance diversification in founder-led enterprises. By bridging empirical analysis with critical humanities perspectives, this research offers novel insights into how visionary leadership shapes institutional dynamics, collective behavior, and ethical decision-making within high-growth organizations.

Abstract

Organic waste management is one of the main challenges in sustainable environmental development in Indonesia. Although waste sorting efforts have been encouraged at the household level, the reality is that there is still a remixing of organic and inorganic waste while in transportation facilities and in management units such as TPS and TPA. This study aims to systematically review the literature that discusses systemic failures in organic waste management, focusing on the strategic and institutional management aspects of waste management units. The method used is a systematic literature study of academic publications, policy reports, and relevant field studies in the period 2010–2024. The results of the study show that the mismatch between strategies at the upstream and downstream levels, the weak institution of TPS/TPA management, and the absence of incentive systems and results-based performance are key factors causing system inefficiency. This study recommends the need to redesign management strategies based on upstream-downstream integration, institutional strengthening of management units, and the application of performance measurement that encourages sustainable organic waste processing.
